St John the Evangelist's Church was an Anglican parish church in Turncroft, Over Darwen, Lancashire, England. It was paid for by a Mrs Graham, and designed by the Lancaster architect E. G. Paley. The church cost £8,000 (equivalent to £840,000 in 2021). It had a spire 146 feet 6 inches (45 m) high. The church has since been closed and demolished.

St Barnabas' Church is on Watery Lane, Darwen, Lancashire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Blackburn with Darwen, the archdeaconry of Blackburn, and the diocese of Blackburn. Its benefice is united with that of St Mary, Grimehills.The church was built in 1884 as a mission church, and designed by the Lancaster partnership of Paley and Austin. It cost £1,462 (equivalent to £160,000 in 2021), and provided seating for 360 people. It is constructed in stone, with a Westmorland slate roof. On the church is a bellcote with a pyramidal slated roof. Its windows are square-headed. The church contains stained glass windows dating from 1963 by Shrigley and Hunt.

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission.

The A666 road passes through Darwen towards Blackburn to the north, Bolton to the south and Pendlebury where it joins the A6, about 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Manchester. The population of Darwen stood at 28,046 in the 2011 census. The town comprises four wards and has its own town council. The town stands on the River Darwen, which flows from south to north and is visible only in the outskirts of the town, as within the town centre it runs underground.

Darwen railway station serves Darwen, a town in Lancashire, England. It was opened in 1847 by the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe & West Yorkshire Railway, which was subsequently taken over by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway twelve years later. It is now served by Northern Trains services on the Ribble Valley Line from Rochdale/Manchester Victoria to Blackburn and into Clitheroe. Darwen is set amongst the hills of East Lancashire. Arriving from or departing towards Bolton involves journeying through the long Sough Tunnel, some 2,015 yd (1,843 m) in length.

The school offers GCSEs and A Levels with a focus on creative digital, health and child-care and business-related subjects. These are delivered through real commercial business based projects. Students also receive professional work placements.

Eccleshill is a civil parish in the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, England. The population of the parish was only 319, at the census of 2011. It contains the hamlets of Eccleshill, Grimshaw and Waterside. Located within the parish is Shaws of Darwen, whom manufacture goods such as sinks and architectural terracotta. The factory situated in Waterside opened in 1908, and in the 1920s, the company was the largest employer in Darwen.The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Hoddlesden Branch Line, the goods line opened in 1876 passed through the parish. It was built to provide one service to Hoddlesden, south of Eccleshill and although the passenger service was proposed the application was not successful. The goods station at Hoddlesden closed in 1950, but the line remained open to Waterside to serve Shaws of Darwen until 1962.
