The Wheeler–Kohn House is a Queen Anne and Second Empire Style house in the Near South Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, United States. The house was built in 1870 by Otis L. Wheelock for Calvin Wheeler. It was designated a Chicago Landmark on February 5, 1998, and it was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The house currently serves as one of Chicago's few intimate bed and breakfast hotels, operating as the Wheeler Mansion.

Marriott Marquis Chicago is a 39-story hotel near McCormick Place. The hotel has 63 meeting rooms totaling 89,407 square feet of space, and is considered by some as an expansion of McCormick Place, given that the hotel and convention center are connected via an enclosed footbridge.

The Arie Crown Theater is an entertainment venue named after Lithuanian immigrant Arie Crown, who was the father of Henry Crown, the American industrialist and philanthropist, and situated on Lake Shore Drive, Chicago. It opened in 1960, with seating for 5,000 people, one of the largest seating capacities in Chicago. The theater is part of the McCormick Place convention facility, owned by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. The theatre was damaged by a fire in 1967 and was closed until 1971. After re-opening a year later for Mahalia Jackson's funeral, the Arie Crown Theater has had nearly four decades presenting classical, R&B and rock music, along with musicals and plays. Notable performers at the Arie Crown have included iconic stars such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Richard Pryor, Tina Turner, Liberace, Sammy Davis Jr., The Jackson 5, Whitney Houston, Liza Minnelli, James Brown, Sonny & Cher, Patti LaBelle, Anita Baker, The Temptations, Tyler Perry, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross and Mary J. Blige and Katt Williams among others. In more recent years, the acoustics have been improved by changing the proportions of the auditorium and staging area and this has reduced the seating capacity to 4,250 people.

The Reid House is a historic house located at 2013 S. Prairie Avenue in the Near South Side community area of Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1894, the house was designed by the firm Beers, Clay and Dutton in the Classical Revival style. The house's design features a narrow entry portico with Ionic columns and terra cotta decorations, a fanlight and sidelights on the front door, a cornice with a modillion, and Adamesque ornaments. In addition, the house was the first residence built with a steel frame. Chicago businessman William Henry Reid owned the house, which he built to replace his previous home at the same location.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 2003.

McCormick Place is the largest convention center in North America. It consists of four interconnected buildings and one indoor arena sited on and near the shore of Lake Michigan, about 2 mi (3.2 km) south of downtown Chicago, Illinois, United States. McCormick Place hosts numerous trade shows and meetings. The largest regular events are the Chicago Auto Show each February, the International Home and Housewares Show each March and the National Restaurant Association Annual Show each May and the International Manufacturing Technology Show in the fall every other year.

The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) is a Chicago fan convention dedicated to comics, pop culture, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies, and television. The inaugural event was held April 16–18, 2010 at the McCormick Place in Chicago.

McCormick Place station is a commuter rail station in Chicago underneath McCormick Place, Chicago's main convention center, that serves the Metra Electric Line north to the Millennium Station and south to University Park, Blue Island, and South Chicago; and the South Shore Line to Gary and South Bend, Indiana.

The Harriet F. Rees House (1888) is a historic residence in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Located on the historically important South Prairie Avenue, the Rees house was built for the widow of a real estate developer. In 2014, the house and its coach house were moved a block north in the Prairie Avenue District to make way for expanded entertainment facilities near McCormick Place.

Wintrust Arena at McCormick Square, previously referred to as DePaul Arena or McCormick Place Events Center, is a 10,387-seat sports venue in Chicago's Near South Side community area that opened in 2017. It is the current home court for the men's and women's basketball teams of DePaul University and serves as an events center for McCormick Place. It also is the home of the Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).The arena was announced in May 2013, with construction planned to begin in 2014, and use expected to begin with the 2016–17 season. The start of construction was delayed to November 2015, with completion delayed until the 2017–18 season. Although DePaul had been seeking a new home arena — it used Allstate Arena in suburban Rosemont starting 1980 — it rejected a November 2012 ten-year offer to play rent free at the United Center. Instead, DePaul planned to use Allstate Arena on a recurring one-year basis until it had a new home. On November 16, 2016, DePaul and the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA or "McPier") announced that the new event center at McCormick Square would be called Wintrust Arena. The announcement came after the signing of a letter of intent that contemplated a definitive 15-year sponsorship agreement between DePaul and Wintrust.

The William W. Kimball House is a private residence located at 1801 Prairie Avenue in the Near South Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 9, 1971.

18th Street station is a commuter rail station on the Near South Side of Chicago, at 18th Street near Calumet Avenue. It serves the Metra Electric Line north to Millennium Station and south to University Park, Blue Island, and South Chicago. For many Metra Electric trains, this is a flag stop, and the train will only stop there if specifically requested by a passenger. As of 2018, 18th Street is the 226th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 23 weekday boardings.The station is also occasionally served by trains of the South Shore Line to Gary and South Bend, Indiana, on an exceptional basis for Chicago Bears home games during football season. As part of a non-compete agreement with Metra, eastbound South Shore trains will not discharge passengers, and westbound trains will not receive passengers. The station was originally built by the Illinois Central Railroad (ICRR). The railroad was first built in 1907.

The Battle of Fort Dearborn (sometimes called the Fort Dearborn Massacre) was an engagement between United States troops and Potawatomi Native Americans that occurred on August 15, 1812, near Fort Dearborn in what is now Chicago, Illinois (at that time, wilderness in the Illinois Territory). The battle, which occurred during the War of 1812, followed the evacuation of the fort as ordered by the commander of the United States Army of the Northwest, William Hull. The battle lasted about 15 minutes and resulted in a complete victory for the Native Americans. After the battle, Fort Dearborn was burned down. Some of the soldiers and settlers who had been taken captive were later ransomed. Following the battle, the federal government became convinced that all Indians had to be removed from the territory and the vicinity of any settlements, as settlers continued to migrate to the area. The fort was rebuilt in 1816.
