Coalbrookdale Formation, earlier known as Wenlock Shale or Wenlock Shale Formation and also referred to as Herefordshire Lagerstätte in palaeontology, is a fossil-rich deposit (Konservat-Lagerstätte) in Powys and Herefordshire at the England–Wales border in UK. It belongs to the Wenlock Series of the Silurian Period within the Homerian Age (about 430 million years ago). It is known for its well-preserved fossils of various invertebrate animals many of which are in their three-dimensional structures. Some of the fossils are regarded as earliest evidences and evolutionary origin of some of the major groups of modern animals.Roderick Murchison first described the geological setting of Coalbrookdale Formation by which he gave the name Silurian in 1935, referring to the Silures, a Celtic tribe of Wales. It is assigned to the Wenlock Group in 1978 based on the age of crustacean fossils found around the region. Robert J. King of the University of Leicester discovered the first unique fossil in 1990. The fossil, an arthropod was reported in 1996 and described in 2000 as Offacolus kingi. Since then, over 30 species of arthropods, polychaete worms, sponges, mollusks, echinoderms, and lobopods have been described; with about 30 species in store yet to be identified.

Colebatch is a small village and civil parish in southwest Shropshire, England. The population of the Civil Parish as at the 2011 census was 210.The village lies on the A488, one mile south of Bishop's Castle, on the road to Clun. Also nearby, to the east, is the village of Lydbury North, while the hamlet of Cefn Einion lies to the west. In the village, on the west side of a tributary of the River Kemp, are the earthwork remains of Colebatch Castle, a small motte castle.

Radnor Wood is a small forest east of the small town of Clun, Shropshire, England covering an area of 1.5 km2. The wood can be easily accessed via the B4368 which passes through Clun and to the south of the forest. It is located on top of a hill which reaches 326 metres above sea level. This point is one of the highest areas in the valley formed by the River Clun. The hill is mainly limestone and this abundance of limestone was discovered by the Romans. Early quarries have been found on the top of the hill and two recent disused quarries can be found at the base of the hill. Once part of one vast forest (the Clun Forest), Radnor Wood is considered small in comparison to the nearby woods such as: Hoar Wood Withins Wood

Lydbury North is a village and a geographically large civil parish in south Shropshire, England. The population of the parish at the 2011 census was 695. The parish is locally called Lydbury, and there is no settlement called Lydbury South. It lies in the southwest corner of the county, near to the small towns of Clun and Bishop's Castle. The B4385 road runs through the village, as does the Jack Mytton Way. To the west is the village and parish of Colebatch. There is a part-time post office, community shop, school and church. Also there is a public house called the Powis Arms. The parish church, St Michael and All Angels, contains a small Catholic chapel.The village is at grid reference SO352859 and lies between 155m and 165m above sea level. Whilst the land to the south is flat, to the north it rises steeply.

Bishop's Castle Community College is a mixed secondary school located in Bishop's Castle in the English county of Shropshire.It is a foundation school administered by Shropshire Council, and admits pupils from Bishop's Castle and surrounding villages. The school offers GCSEs.

Clun (Welsh: Colunwy) is a town in south west Shropshire, England, and the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 2011 census recorded 680 people living in the town. Research by the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England suggests that Clun is one of the most tranquil locations in England.

Clun Town Hall is a municipal building in The Square in Clun, Shropshire, England. The building, which is now used as a museum, is a Grade II* listed building.

Bishop's Castle is a market town in the south west of Shropshire, England. According to the 2011 Census it had a population of 1,893. Bishop's Castle is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of the Wales-England border, about 20 miles (30 km) north-west of Ludlow and about 20 miles (30 km) south-west of Shrewsbury. To the south is Clun and to the east is Church Stretton. The town is within an agricultural area and has also become known for its alternative community including artists, musicians, writers and craftspeople. The surrounding area is hillwalking country and Bishop's Castle is a "Walkers are Welcome Town", gaining the award in 2008. The long distance footpath the Shropshire Way runs through the town and Offa's Dyke is only a few miles to the west. The ancient trackway of the Kerry Ridgeway, a prehistoric Bronze Age route, runs from the town. The BC Ring, a 60-mile (100 km) challenging route around the town, was published in 2008. The town has two micro-breweries, including the Three Tuns, the UK's oldest brewery.
