Low Dinsdale Manor

Low Dinsdale is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Neasham, in the borough of Darlington and the ceremonial county of Durham, England. The parish population taken at the 2011 census was 871. It is situated a few miles to the south-east of Darlington. On 1 April 2016 the parish was abolished and merged with Neasham and Middleton St. George.Historically the village was commonly known as Dinsdale. "Low" was added to distinguish the village from the neighbouring village of Over Dinsdale, on the opposite bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire. The toponym was recorded in Domesday Book as Dignesale and Dirneshale, and recorded in 1088 as Detnisale. The name is Old English and means either "nook of land belonging to a man named Dyttin" or "nook of land belonging to Deighton". Deighton was in the same wapentake (Allerton) as Over Dinsdale.Listed buildings include Low Dinsdale Manor and Dinsdale Park a former Spa hotel.

Over Dinsdale is a small village and civil parish in the former Local Government District of Hambleton in North Yorkshire, England. The population of the village (including Girsby) taken at the 2011 census was 151. The village straddles an ancient Roman road on the border with County Durham, on a peninsula in the River Tees, approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) from Darlington and 8.5 miles (13.7 km) from Yarm. The Teesdale Way passes through the village. Historically the village was a township in the ancient parish of Sockburn, a parish divided by the River Tees between the North Riding of Yorkshire (which included Over Dinsdale) and County Durham (which included the township of Sockburn). Over Dinsdale became a separate civil parish in 1866.The neighbouring village of Low Dinsdale is across the river in County Durham.

Croft was a rural district in the North Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 from that part of the Darlington rural sanitary district which was in the North Riding (the rest forming Darlington Rural District in County Durham). It was named after Croft-on-Tees. It was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974. The parishes of Girsby and Over Dinsdale went to form part of the new North Yorkshire district of Hambleton, with the rest going to the Richmondshire district.

Dinsdale Park is a 19th-century mansion and former Spa hotel at Low Dinsdale, near Darlington, County Durham, England now converted into residential apartments. It is a Grade II listed building. Low Dinsdale Manor estate, anciently the seat of the Surtees family, was acquired by John Lambton of Lambton in 1770. In 1789, during drilling for coal, a natural spring of sulphurated mineral water was discovered on the northern bank of the River Tees at Dinsdale. The first Spa was established there in 1797. In 1829 John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham built the Dinsdale Spa Hotel on his estate to a design by architect Ignatius Bonomi. The three storey seven bayed mansion provided accommodation for seventy visitors. The business was not greatly successful and the property was sold for residential use, together with the manor, in 1844 to Henry George Surtees (High Sheriff of Durham) a descendant of the ancient family. Following the sale of the property in 1914 by Aubone Surtees, the building has had various uses, including a psychiatric hospital, a local authority residential school and a nursing home. The grounds were laid out as a golf course and more recently the building has been converted into residential apartments.

Middleton One Row is a village in the borough of Darlington and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. It is situated approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) south east of Darlington. The village was originally developed as a spa resort in the late 18th century with properties developed on one row, overlooking the banks of the River Tees.

Middleton St George is a large village and civil parish in the borough of Darlington and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. It is situated approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) east of Darlington. According to the 2011 UK Census the population was 3,779, including Middleton One Row, Low Middleton and Oak Tree. It has grown rapidly since the mid-1990s, becoming a commuter area for Darlington. The population of the Darlington ward in question again taken at the 2011 Census was 4,650.

The station, situated 3 miles 65 chains (6.1 km) east of Darlington, serves the village of Middleton St George, Darlington in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Neasham Fen is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in the Darlington district of County Durham, England. It lies on the floodplain of the River Tees, 5.2 km south-east of Darlington. Neasham Fen is a small in-filled kettle hole. Analysis of the deposits at the site has provided an important record of the vegetational history and changing climate of the area during the Flandrian period. Radiocarbon dates of between 9082±90 and 1213±60 yr BP have been obtained from the deposits, which have also yielded pollen records covering the same period.

Girsby is a village and civil parish in the former Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. The village lies on high ground on the eastern bank of the River Tees. Sockburn is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Neasham, in the Darlington district, in the ceremonial county of Durham, England. It is situated at the apex of a meander of the River Tees, to the south of Darlington, known locally as the Sockburn Peninsula.
