Stony Point, Virginia

Rosena is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. It lies at the intersection of Rt. 20 and Rt. 640, within the Stony Point community. The sole service is a single general store, "Grand Junction," which long did business under the name of "Bobbi's." As of 1904, the United States Geological Survey designated it as a "post village," indicating that at that time there was a post office. And as of 1910, the population was great enough to warrant a stop by the "traveling library stations" of the Virginia State Library.

The Southwest Mountains of Virginia are a mountain range centered on Charlottesville, parallel to and geologically associated with the Blue Ridge Mountains, which lie about 30 miles (50 km) to the west. Some of the more prominent peaks include Carters Mountain, Fan Mountain, Brush Mountain, Peters Mountain, Walton's Mountain, and Hightop Mountain.

The Proffit Historic District is a national historic district located at Proffit, Albemarle County, Virginia. It encompasses 26 contributing buildings and 3 contributing sites in the historic center of Proffit. Notable buildings and sites includes Evergreen Baptist Church, the Proffit Station Master's House, remains of the first Proffit Post Office, the Proffit Road Bridge, and several houses built by African-American families as far back as the 1880s.Proffit's history dates back to the 1870s when two former slaves, John Coles and Benjamin Brown, purchased some land from former slaveholder W.G. Carr. In 1876 Ned Brown purchased seventy-five acres in the area as well. Its settlement began and the community thrived. Proffit is noted as one of the few African American communities in Albemarle County to survive after the American Civil War. Today it is a quiet residential area whose backbone is the Evergreen Baptist Church. The Church was built in 1891 by its first pastor, Reverend D.L. Gofney, and continues to be significantly involved in this historic community today. The historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Proffit is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. There is no commercial activity, with only houses lining the road and a bridge under which Norfolk Southern's Piedmont Division, Washington District line runs. It is recognized as a Virginia Landmark and the Proffit Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.Shortly after the Civil War the village was populated entirely by African Americans, when it was known as Egypt, and then as Bethel. It became known as Proffit when the railroad line went through, named for the man who bought the right of way for the line. As it became a minor commercial hub, the population gradually became more caucasian. By the late 1920s there were only 15-20 African American families remaining in Proffit.In 1974, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Tribune covered the Proffit Area News. The paper notes Evergreen Baptist Church as part of the community, with Rev. Blakely presiding. Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville was also noted as hosting the Thanksgiving Union Worship Service with Rev. L.S. Ward, pastor of Chatman Grove Baptist Church, Eastham delivering the sermon. Other congregations joining this service were Evergreen at Proffit and Free Union of Stony Point. The Union Christmas service was planned to be at Evergreen Baptist that year. The historian, Claude Hall, author of Abel Parker Upshur, was born in Proffit, and procured three degrees from the University of Virginia.

Woodburn, also known as Mundy House, is a historic home and farm complex located near Charlottesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. The original section of the house, built about 1821, consists of a two-story, brick hall and parlor plan Federal style dwelling. It has one-story frame additions to the rear and a skillfully attached 1+1⁄2-story frame wing built in 1983. Also on the property is the Mundy family cemetery.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Bentivar is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia.This neighborhood sits on land once owned by the Carr family back in the late 1790s. The oldest estate dates back to approximately 1830 with some of the most recent homes constructed in the 2000s.

Red Hills is a historic home and farm complex located near Charlottesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. It consists of a two-story, five bay brick main section built about 1797 in the Georgian style, and two brick rear wings. It has a modern, one-story frame wing. The front facade features one-story, gabled portico of Colonial Revival design added about 1939. Also on the property are a contributing barn (early-20th century), corncrib and shed (early-20th century), shed (late-19th century), well (19th century), and slave cemetery (19th century).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Southwest Mountains Rural Historic District is a national historic district located near Keswick, Albemarle County, Virginia. The district encompasses 854 contributing buildings, 73 contributing sites, 30 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object. It includes a variety of large farms, historic villages, and crossroads communities. The area is known primarily for its large and imposing Federal, Greek Revival, and Georgian Revival plantation houses and country estates. It features a broad range of architecture—mainly domestic and farm-related—from the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) is part of the United States Army Intelligence and Security Command. The NGIC provides scientific and technical intelligence (S&T) and general military intelligence (GMI) on foreign ground forces in support of the warfighting commanders, force and material developers, Department of the Army, Department of Defense, and National-level decisionmakers. The NGIC also manages the Army's Foreign Materiel Exploitation Program and foreign material acquisition requirements, and constitutes a single authoritative source for comprehensive ground forces threat to the Army and other services. It is approximately 100 miles (160 km) southwest of Washington, D.C. and 85 miles (137 km) west of Richmond, Virginia. It also maintains a test and evaluation facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, co-located with the Army's technical intelligence unit, the 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion. NGIC was created on 8 July 1994, by merging the US Army Foreign Science and Technology Center (FSTC) and the US Army Intelligence and Threat Analysis Center (ITAC). The former headquarters of FSTC in Charlottesville, Virginia, became the headquarters of the new Center.
