RAF Towyn

Broad Water, or Broadwater (Welsh: Aber Dysynni) is a salt water lagoon near Tywyn, Wales formed from the silted up estuary of the River Dysynni. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the estuary was used by the shipbuilding industry, as small sailing ships were launched to carry peat from the local peat bogs. This industry was abandoned in the nineteenth century when the estuary became too silted up, forming the lagoon. The outflow of the lagoon flows beneath a railway bridge before entering Cardigan Bay. The area is a haven for many wetland birds, and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Tywyn railway station serves the town of Tywyn in Gwynedd, Wales. The station is on the Cambrian Coast Line, with passenger services to Barmouth, Harlech, Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Aberdovey, Machynlleth and Shrewsbury.

Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn is a bilingual coeducational secondary school for pupils aged between 11 and 16 years. It is situated in Tywyn, Gwynedd. As of 2018, around 19% of pupils come from Welsh-speaking homes.

Tywyn Wharf railway station is the western terminus and principal station of the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn, Gwynedd in mid-Wales.

The Talyllyn Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd Talyllyn) is a narrow gauge preserved railway in Wales running for 7+1⁄4 miles (12 km) from Tywyn on the Mid-Wales coast to Nant Gwernol near the village of Abergynolwyn. The line was opened in 1865 to carry slate from the quarries at Bryn Eglwys to Tywyn, and was the first narrow gauge railway in Britain authorised by Act of Parliament to carry passengers using steam haulage. Despite severe underinvestment, the line remained open, and in 1951 it became the first railway in the world to be preserved as a heritage railway by volunteers.Since preservation, the railway has operated as a tourist attraction, expanding its rolling stock through acquisition and an engineering programme to build new locomotives and carriages. In 1976, an extension was opened along the former mineral line from Abergynolwyn to the new station at Nant Gwernol. In 2005 a major rebuilding and extension of Tywyn Wharf station took place, including a much-expanded facility for the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, and in 2021 the railway was designated a World Heritage Site as part of the slate landscape of north-west Wales. The fictional Skarloey Railway, which formed part of The Railway Series of children's books by The Rev. W. Awdry, was based on the Talyllyn Railway. The preservation of the line inspired the Ealing Comedy film The Titfield Thunderbolt.

St Cadfan's Church (Welsh: Eglwys Cadfan) is situated in Tywyn in the county of Gwynedd, formerly Merionethshire, Wales. The church is noted for its Romanesque architecture and for housing the Cadfan Stone, a stone cross dating from ninth century or earlier which is inscribed with the oldest known written Welsh. Brut y Tywysogion states that the church was sacked by Vikings in 963, and during the twelfth century it was the subject of a memorable poem by Llywelyn Fardd (I). The earliest parts of the building date to the twelfth century, and it originally had a central tower, although this fell down in 1693.The church houses two fourteenth-century monuments. One of the effigies is of an unknown priest in full Eucharistic vestments. The other is a military figure thought to be Gruffudd ab Adda (d. c. 1350) of Dôl-goch and Ynysymaengwyn. The effigy is known as the 'Crying Knight' due to a flaw in the stone at his right eye which becomes damp during wet weather, giving the impression of weeping.The vicarage, which was built in the early 19th century, still stands on National Street. It is now a private house called 'Tŷ Cadfan Sant'. National Street (formerly Duck Street) was named after the National School, later Towyn Church School, which was once located on the street.

Tywyn (Welsh: [ˈtəu̯ɨn]; in English often ), formerly spelled Towyn, is a town, community, and seaside resort on the Cardigan Bay coast of southern Gwynedd, Wales. It was previously in the historic county of Merionethshire. It is famous as the location of the Cadfan Stone, a stone cross with the earliest known example of written Welsh, and the home of the Talyllyn Railway.

Corbett Arms Hotel is a Grade II listed building on Corbett Square Tywyn, Gwynedd. The building is located at one end of the Tywyn High Street near the recently (2010) refurbished Tywyn Cinema, The Magic Lantern. The hotel was the principal hotel in Tywn and is first recorded in 1833. It was part of the estate of John Corbett of Ynysmaengwyn, who more than doubled the building in size and added a second 'T' to its name, originally The Corbet Arms.The hotel is in a late Georgian style, three stories high and attic with a slate roof. It has been listed Grade II by Cadw since the 1970s.

Pendre railway station (also known as Tywyn Pendre railway station, or formerly as Towyn Pendre railway station) is a station on the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn, Gwynedd in mid-Wales. It is 0.42 miles (0.68 km) from Tywyn Wharf, which is the primary station and western terminus of the railway. Pendre is the site of the railway's locomotive and carriage sheds, and engineering works. Passenger trains stop at Pendre by request only.'Pendre' is Welsh for 'End-of-town'.

Tywyn Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Tywyn) is a health facility in Tywyn, Gwynedd, Wales. It is managed by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

Afon Dyffryn Gwyn is a river in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. Its source is on Trum Gelli above Cwm Maethlon (also known as Dyffryn Gwyn and Happy Valley). It flows in a south-westerly direction through Cwm Maethlon and reaches the sea near Penllyn farm, south of Tywyn. It was formerly sometimes known as Caethle Brook. Until the 1860s the river flowed into a lake called Llyn y Borth (or Penllyn Pool) just prior to reaching the sea. Both the river and the lake (on which small boats could be launched) were noted for their trout before lead mining in Cwm Maethlon in the 1850s polluted the water.The river's estuary was altered in the early nineteenth century as part of drainage works. Following this the reformed mouth of the river became known as Abernewydd (literally, 'new estuary').In 1862 further drainage works associated with building of the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway straightened the river's course, drained Llyn y Borth, and effectively removed the estuary. Since then, the river reaches the Cardigan Bay via an outflow pipe.

The Bala Fault is a SW-NE trending geological fault in Wales that extends offshore into Cardigan Bay. In the offshore area it is a major normal fault and forms the bounding structure to the Cardigan Bay Basin, with a fill including about 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) of Lias Group. Onshore it is responsible for the lineament which runs through Bala and south of Cadair Idris to the coast at Tywyn. At its northeastern end it links to the similarly orientated Llanelidan Fault. The fault is believed to have had two separate stages of movement. The horizons between the upper Carboniferous sequence and the underlying Jurassic sequence are parallel, so little rotational movement occurred. The second stage of movement happened in the middle-to-late Jurassic period, when strong rotation happened, up to 24 degrees.
