Shwepyitha Township (Burmese: ရွှေပြည်သာ မြို့နယ်; pronounced [ʃwèpjìθà mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in the northwestern part of Yangon, Myanmar. The township comprises 27 wards and 3 village tracts, and shares borders with Htantabin Township to the north, Mingaladon Township to the east, the Yangon river to the west, and Insein Township to the south. Incorporated into the city of Yangon in 1986, Shwepyitha is now developing and has basic municipal services. Improvements include tidy and broad main roads and many streets form a grid. Hlaing River separates Shwepyithar and Hlaingtharyar. Shwepyithar Bridge was built in 1996 and now it is a useful bridge in Yangon and is also the start of the Yangon-Pathein-Chaungthar Highway. Htan Chuak Pin Junction is regarded as the centre of Shwepyithar and many well known places are there. Shwepyithar Advanced Theatre (3D) was opened in March 2017. There are many gyms and shops around its centre. At night, the street-market of Htan Chauk Pin offers dining. Ruby Market is the most famous market. Bogyoke Aungsan Road, Bayint Naung Road, No.4 Highway, etc. are the most popular roads in the town. The Yangon Circular Railway passes through the township. Its railway station is also at the Yangon-Pyay-Mandalay Railway. Many Language Centres teach English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Many advanced restaurants and hotels as well as motels are there. Many job opportunities can be available in Shwepyithar because it has the Shwepyithar Industrial Zone, Warr Ta Ya Industrial Zone and Thardukan Industrial Zone.Dagon Beverage Company Limited also exists there. Shwe Pyi Thar is an up-and-coming Yangon township.

The Defense Services Medical Academy (DSMA) (Burmese: တပ်မတော် ဆေး တက္ကသိုလ်, pronounced [taʔmədɔ̀ sʰé tɛʔkəθò]), located in Mingaladon, Yangon, is the University of Medicine of the Myanmar Armed Forces. One of the most selective universities in the country, the academy offers M.B., B.S. (equivalent of the M.D.) degree programs. Upon graduation, most DSMA cadets are commissioned with the rank of Lieutenant in the Myanmar Army Medical Corps. The military physicians are to serve the healthcare needs of rural people when they are assigned in the country's remote regions where access to healthcare is poor.

Yayway Cemetery (Burmese: ရေဝေးသုသာန်, also spelt Yeway Cemetery) is a cemetery located in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon, Myanmar. The cemetery is the final resting place of many prominent Burmese. The cemetery is maintained by the Yangon City Development Committee's environmental maintenance department. Yayway Cemetery also consists of various ethnic and religious cemeteries, including those of the Burmese Indians, Sino-Burmese (Hakka, Cantonese, Hokkien, and Yunnanese), Karen, Japanese, Baháʼís, Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Parsis, and Jews.

Yangon International Airport (Burmese: ရန်ကုန်အပြည်ပြည်ဆိုင်ရာလေဆိပ်; MLCTS: rankun apranyprany hcuingra lehcip [jàɴɡòʊɰ̃ əpjìpjì sʰàɪɴjà lèzeɪʔ]) (IATA: RGN, ICAO: VYYY) is the primary and busiest international airport of Myanmar. The airport is located in Mingaladon, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of central Yangon. All ten Myanmar carriers and about 30 international airlines operate at Yangon International Airport. The airport is also colloquially known as Mingaladon Airport due to its location.

Mingaladon Township (Burmese: မင်္ဂလာဒုံ မြို့နယ် [mɪ̀ɰ̃ɡəlàdòʊɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀] Mon: ဍုၚ်ဒြဲာမ္ၚဵု) is located in the northernmost part of Yangon, Myanmar. The township comprises 31 wards, and shares borders with Hmawbi Township in the north, North Okkalapa Township in the east, Insein Township and Shwepyitha Township in the west, and Mayangon Township in the south. Mingaladon is still relatively undeveloped and lacks basic municipal services. Mingaladon is home to the Yangon International Airport and the Hlawga National Park

The University of Medicine 2, Yangon (Burmese: ဆေးတက္ကသိုလ်(၂) ရန်ကုန် [sʰé tɛʔkəθò n̥ɪʔ (jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃)]; formerly, Institute of Medicine 2) is a university of medicine, located in North Okkalapa, Yangon, Myanmar. The university offers M.B., B.S. degrees and graduate (diploma, master's and doctoral) degrees in medical science. The university is one of the most selective in the country, and accepts approximately 300 students annually based solely on their University Entrance Examination scores. University of Medicine 2, Yangon is one of five medical schools in Burma recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.

Insein Township (Burmese: အင်းစိန်မြို့နယ်, pronounced [ɪ́ɰ̃sèiɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in northern Yangon. The township comprises 21 wards, and shares borders with Shwepyitha township in the north, Hlaingthaya township in the west, Mingaladon township in the east and Mayangon township in the south. Insein is home to the Insein Prison, the most notorious prison in the country that houses hundreds of political prisoners. Until the 1990s, Insein, about 20 miles (32 km) from central Yangon, was beyond Yangon's city limits although by the 1980s, Insein was already integrated with the rest of the city. With the expansion of Yangon's city limits in the 1990s which also included founding new satellite towns, Insein was formally incorporated into Yangon.

The Battle of Insein was a 1949 battle during the Karen conflict where the Karen National Defence Organisation briefly captured the town of Insein, 9 miles from Rangoon. After 111 days of intense fighting, the KNDO failed their goal of capturing Rangoon, and retreated into the countryside.

Insein Prison (Burmese: အင်းစိန်ထောင်) is located in Yangon Division, near Yangon (Rangoon), the old capital of Myanmar (formerly Burma). From 1988 to 2011 it was run by the military junta of Myanmar, named the State Law and Order Restoration Council from 1988 to 2003 and the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) from 2003 to 2011, and was used largely to repress political dissidents. The prison is notorious worldwide for its inhumane conditions, corruption, abuse of inmates, and use of mental and physical torture.

The North Okkalapa General Hospital is an affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Medicine 2, Yangon, located in North Okkalapa Township in the eastern part of Yangon, Myanmar.

The University of West Yangon (Burmese: ရန်ကုန် အနောက်ပိုင်း တက္ကသိုလ် [jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃ ʔənaʊʔpáɪɰ̃ tɛʔkəθò]), located in Htantabin, Yangon Division, is a liberal arts and sciences university in Myanmar. The university offers bachelor's and master's degrees in liberal arts and science. Students who wish to pursue post-graduate (especially PhD) studies typically go to Yangon University.

The Insein General Hospital (Burmese: အင်းစိန်ဆေးရုံ) is a 500-bed public hospital and teaching hospital located in northern part of Yangon, with 9 in-patient wards and 6 specialty clinics.
