The Vogtlandkreis (German pronunciation: [ˈfoːktlantˌkʁaɪs]) is a Landkreis (rural district) in the southwest of Saxony, Germany, at the borders of Thuringia, Bavaria, and the Czech Republic. Neighboring districts are (from south clockwise) Hof, Saale-Orla, Greiz, Zwickau and Erzgebirgskreis. Plauen is the administrative centre and largest city of the district. Other major cities (Große Kreisstädte) are Reichenbach im Vogtland, Auerbach, and Oelsnitz im Vogtland.

Bezelberg

The Bezelberg is a 638 m high mountain with an observation plateau near Neustadt in Vogtlandkreis in the German Free State of Saxony. Because only the very top is wooded, it offers a good all-round view of the local area as well as the escarpment of the Ore Mountains that drops away to the northwest towards Steinberg bei Wernesgrün. In GDR times the mountain was used by the military due to its proximity to the border.

Schöneck is known as the biggest ski resort in the eastern part of Germany. With more than 700 m (church) it is the highest-located town in the Vogtland district. It is in the 'music corner', a region so-called because of its history of production of musical instruments.
