The Heathcote School

Shephall (SHEP-all) is a neighbourhood of the new town of Stevenage in Hertfordshire. It was formerly a separate village and parish, being absorbed into Stevenage in 1953.

Shephall Manor, also known as Shephalbury Manor, is a Grade II listed building in Stevenage, a town in Hertfordshire, England. The house was designed by T. Roger Smith in the neo-Gothic style, and was completed in 1864. The house was built for Unwin Unwin Heathcote, who had inherited the manor of Shephall in 1862 from his father, Samuel Heathcote Unwin Heathcote. Unwin Unwin Heathcote had had the previous manor house demolished, which had passed through the Nodes family between 1542 and 1761, before being split between three daughters and part of it sold to Michael Heathcote of London, who passed his share to his grandson Samuel Unwin in 1818, who then purchased the remainder and changed his name to Samuel Heathcote Unwin Heathcote. The original, small manor house was known as Shephalbury Manor and had twelve rooms and domestic offices. When the old house was demolished, a rose garden was planted on the site.After Unwin Unwin Heathcote died in 1893, Colonel Alfred Unwin Heathcote was the last of the family to live at the manor. After his death in 1912, the house was let to Colonel Woods, then to David Augustus Bevan in 1926 and Lieutenant Colonel Morgan Grenville Gavin in 1937. The Heathcotes remained the Lords of the Manor until 1939 when the manor was sold by Michael Heathcote to William Harriman Moss. During the Second World War, the house was used to house children who had been evacuated there by the Waifs and Strays society. When they left, it became a convalescent home for Polish officers, and then a school for Polish children. In September 1947, Shephall Manor was commandeered by the Stevenage Development Corporation, who leased it to the Inner London Education Authority. The grounds were then opened for public recreation.After the New Towns Act 1981, Shephall Manor and most of its land was owned by the New Towns Commission, and the rest was already owned by Hertfordshire County Council. The Inner London Education Authority was disbanded so the Manor was no longer required as a school. The Shephalbury Manor Action Committee was formed to save the site from development, as the Manor was not listed and the trees were not subject to preservation orders. Their campaign was successful, and in November 1988, it was listed under the Town and Country Planning Act 1971 as a building of special architectural and historic interest and achieved Grade II listed status on 17 May 1989. The house was bought by the Coptic Orthodox Church and the grounds were opened to the public as one of Stevenage's district parks. The chapel of Archangel Michael and Saint Anthony inside the house served as main parish church for 15 years until the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George was built adjacent to the house.

Barnwell School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form that was established in 1959 and is situated in the south of Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Between 2002 and 2005 it was the most improved school in Hertfordshire and one of the most improved schools in England. The overall pass rate this year is 48 per cent for grades A to C — a one per cent increase on year before, but still below the national average by far.In September 2006 the school expanded by taking in the students from another nearby school that closed (Collenswood). As a consequence, the school now has two campuses: Barnwell Upper Campus (the original Barnwell site) and, less than a mile away, Barnwell Middle Campus (formerly the site of Collenswood School). The school was designated as a Business and Enterprise College in September 2004 due to having an emphasis on maths, business and IT.

Stevenage is a constituency in Hertfordshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Stephen McPartland, a member of the Conservative Party.

Marriotts School is a secondary school in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. The school was rebuilt along with Lonsdale School (for special needs children) after a grant from the government/council. Marriotts is situated on a site overlooking the Fairlands Valley. The school playing fields run along the east side of the Fairland Lakes, which offer a range of water-sport activities.

Ridlins Mire is a 1.6-hectare (4.0-acre) nature reserve managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England.This wetland site is a type of peat bog. It is the result of a spring, which has resulted in the growth of peat over many years into a domed structure called a rheotrophic hangmire. This is a rare habitat and unique in Hertfordshire. The dominant plants are tussock sedge and marsh marigold. There are birds such as long-tailed tits and great tits, and butterflies including large whites and small tortoiseshells.The site is unfenced on its border with Goddard End, but access is difficult as there is no formal entrance or footpaths.

Broadhall Way, known as the Lamex Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is an association football stadium in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. It has been the home ground of Stevenage (formerly Stevenage Borough and Stevenage Town) since the early 1960s, and has a capacity of 7,200 people.

The Marx Memorial Library in London, United Kingdom is a library, archive, educational, and community outreach charity focused on Marxist and wider socialist bodies of work.The library opened in 1933, and is located at 37a Clerkenwell Green, formerly home to many radical organisations and base of an important publishing operation. The building, originally opened in 1738 as the Welsh Charity School, is Grade II listed. The library's collection comprises over 60,000 books, pamphlets, items, and newspapers on Marxism, socialism, and working class history.

Bragbury End is a hamlet in Hertfordshire, England, and the location of Stevenage F.C.'s training ground.

Warren Spring Laboratory was a UK government environmental science research centre that operated in Stevenage, Hertfordshire from 1958 until its closure in 1994. Described by New Scientist as "Britain's leading laboratory for environmental research", and by The Times as "one of Europe's most important environmental research centres", it had an international reputation in areas such as air and water pollution, waste management and recycling, land remediation, alternative fuel research, and chemical engineering. In 1994, after some political controversy, the laboratory was closed and merged with AEA Technology to form the National Environmental Technology Centre (NETCEN).

North Hertfordshire College ("NHC") is a further education and higher education college operating in Stevenage, Hitchin, and Letchworth Garden City. NHC was established on 1 April 1991, through the amalgamation of Stevenage College, Hitchin College and Letchworth Technical College. NHC is graded 'Good with Outstanding features' by Ofsted.

Stevenage Bus Interchange is a facility that serves the town of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, with local and regional bus services. These include services to Watford, Cheshunt, and Hertford, within Hertfordshire, Luton, Bedfordshire, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and Victoria Coach Station, London. There are National Rail connections through Stevenage Railway Station on the other side of Lytton Way. Local Taxi services are available, and rank in the Railway station forecourt.
