Newbury Castle is the name of an English adulterine castle built by John Marshal during The Anarchy. It is located west of the town of Newbury in the English county of Berkshire. The Castle is mentioned in L'Histoire de Guillaume le Marechal ('History of William the Marshal') wherein it describes King Stephen as besieging the castle in 1152 and holding Marshal's son, William Marshal, as a hostage against Newbury's surrender. When the elder Marshal refused to comply, Stephen threatened to have the young boy catapulted over the walls. John, ("that child of hell and root of all evil" according to Henry of Huntingdon) responded defiantly, "I have the anvils and the hammer to forge still better sons." King Stephen wasn't so heartless though—he relented and the boy survived.Despite appearing proudly on the town's coat of arms, Newbury Castle does not appear to have been built in Newbury at all, but four miles away in the village of Hamstead Marshall. There, the mottes of three castles can be found, which would be consistent with the general tactics of siege warfare during this medieval period.

Stockcross is a village in Berkshire, England. The village lies to the west of Newbury in the civil parish of Speen and the district of West Berkshire. Close to the cross-road in the middle of the village were the stocks hence the name Stock-Cross, which were removed in the early 1980s.

Enborne Copse is a 11.9-hectare (29-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Newbury in Berkshire. It is a Nature Conservation Review site.The current woodland boundary is almost identical to that shown on Rocque's map of Berkshire in 1761, but most of it is now a conifer plantation and only the area designated as an SSSI retains its semi-natural broad leaved woodland.

Benham Lock, formerly known as Benham Bridge Lock is a lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal, between Kintbury and Newbury. It is located below Marsh Benham, but in the civil parish of Enborne, in the English county of Berkshire. The lock lies some 60 metres (66 yd) west of Benham bridge. The lock was constructed within the period between October 1794 and June 1797 and has a rise/fall of 6 ft 3 in (1.9 m).In January 2017 the Canal and River Trust had to adjust, refit and repair the gates at Benham Lock due to them not closing properly and wasting water, the brickwork on the lock being re-pointed at the same time.

It is 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Newbury within 500m of a junction of the A34 trunk road Newbury by-pass outside the town side, in the Marsh Benham locality of Speen, a village within and outside the Newbury by-pass. The house is a Grade II* listed building and park is Grade II.

Avery's Pightle is a 1.3-hectare (3.2-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Enborne in Berkshire. It is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.This unimproved meadow is species rich and it has surviving ridge and furrow, suggesting a long history of traditional management without modern herbicides or fertilisers. Twenty-four species of grass and a hundred and thirteen herbs have been recorded. There is a wet ditch which has water whorl grass.There is access to the site from Church Lane.

Hamstead Marshall Pit is a 0.2-hectare (0.49-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Hamstead Marshall in Berkshire. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This former gravel pit exposes gravels of the River Kennet, which were deposited around 450,000 years ago, during the Anglian ice age. Flint hand axes found on the site may be even older, showing that early humans were active in the Middle Palaeolithic in the area.
