Hanover Square Historic District (Horseheads, New York)

Horseheads is a historic railway depot located at Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. It was built in 1866 by the Northern Central Railway (NCRY). The train station was operated by the NCRY and its successor, the Pennsylvania Railroad, until 1956. The Italianate style building is significant architecturally and historically as a representative of a 19th-century railroad depot.After being closed by the railroad, the depot was purchased by the local feed mill, where it was used for storage for many decades until it was sold to be used as a retail location in 1994. The interior space has been slightly modified and the original wood floors have been replaced by cement ones, but it remains mostly as built. The Horseheads Historical Society purchased the depot in 1995 and started the restoration process in 1997. The new depot museum officially opened on September 18, 1999. The Historical Society now operates a museum and small rental space in the station. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 as the Chemung Railway Depot--Horseheads.

The residential district includes a rich variety of exceptionally well preserved examples of the vernacular architectural styles once popular in such communities. The included structures reflect the diversity of architectural styles popular between 1860 and 1920.It is adjacent to Hanover Square and Horseheads High School. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Zimmerman House, also known as Zim House, is a historical structure located in Horseheads, New York. It was the home of cartoonist Eugene Zimmerman, also known as "Zim". The architectural and historic significance of the house led to its listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.Zimmerman designed the house in 1890 in a Queen Anne style. It was built by his father-in-law, Alvah Beard. Zimmerman also designed the Zim Bandstand in nearby Teal Park. Both are in Horseheads's1855 Extension Historic District. The house is open for tour by appointment with the Horseheads Historical Society and features some of Zimmerman's works on display.

The Holding Point is an area in the Town of Horseheads, New York that is the site of the Horseheads Industrial Center. The name dates back to World War II, when the federal government used eminent domain to obtain 700 acres (2.8 km2) of farmland north of the Village of Horseheads to hold German prisoners of war and to store ammunition, jeeps and other war supplies. The land reverted to civilian control after the war and since has been converted to an industrial center and recreational sports complex. Schlumberger Technology Corp owns a significant portion of the Holding Point as they prepare the lot for gas drilling in New York [1][2].

WLNL (1000 AM) is a radio station in Horseheads, New York, United States, serving the Elmira-Corning area. The station is owned by Trinity Media, Ltd. 1000 AM is a United States and Mexican clear-channel frequency; WLNL must leave the air from sunset to sunrise to prevent interference with the nighttime skywave signal of WMVP in Chicago. This frequency was put to use from Horseheads in 1967 as WIQT, a full-service adult contemporary station owned by Manuel Panosian. Panosian successfully applied for a new license for a station at 820 kHz, and in January 1988, WIQT moved there; simultaneously, the 1000 kHz facility was sold and would air Christian programming for the next 33 years. In 2021, the station went silent for seven months and returned with its present conservative talk format under the moniker "The Bell".

WPGO (820 kHz) is a non-commercial AM radio station licensed to Horseheads, New York, serving the Elmira-Corning radio market. It is owned by Montrose Broadcasting, Corporation and airs a Christian radio format, mixing Christian talk and teaching programs with Christian music. Much of the programming is simulcast from sister station WPEL-FM 96.5 FM in Montrose, Pennsylvania. The stations hold periodic fundraisers on the air to support the ministry. The studios are on High Street in Montrose. By day, WPGO is powered at 4,100 watts non-directional. But 820 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A station WBAP Fort Worth. The Mark Twain Golf Course is a public 18 hole golf course in the Town of Horseheads that is owned and operated by the City of Elmira, New York. It was designed by the famous golf course architect Donald Ross. It was built in 1937 as a public works project during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration. The course was named after Mark Twain, who lived nearby.
