Topanga State Park

The Pacific Palisades Highlands is a neighborhood located in Pacific Palisades, a community in the Westside of Los Angeles, California. The Palisades Highlands is situated in the northern part of the Palisades bordering Topanga State Park and the Upper Santa Ynez Canyon. The Highlands has its own shopping center and access to several Topanga State Park trailheads.

The Palisades Fire was a wildfire that burned in Topanga State Park, in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles, California on May 14, 2021. The fire burned a total of 1,202 acres (486 ha) and was fully contained on May 26, 2021.

Eagle Rock is a prominent sandstone pinnacle in Topanga State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains, California. The original name is "Elephant Rock" as the huge sandstone outcropping looks like an Elephant head when viewed from the north side. When the Park was created the name of the spring to the east, Eagle Spring, was applied to the peak. The rock can be reached by an easy hike, e.g. with the Musch Trail and Topanga Fire Road of Topanga State Park. The last part consists of an easy climb on one side of the rock to the top, the other side falls down steeply by around 100 ft (30 m).

Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park is a 1,500-acre (6.1 km2) park in the Santa Monica Mountains, with its trailhead at the southern terminus of Reseda Boulevard in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California. The park was named for former Los Angeles City Councilman Marvin Braude, who for more than 30 years led the effort to preserve the Santa Monica Mountains. Owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the park is within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park is in the California coastal sage and chaparral and the California chaparral and woodlands ecoregions.

The Murphy Ranch is a ranch built in Rustic Canyon, Los Angeles in the 1930s by Winona and Norman Stephens, who were sympathizers of the anti-semitic, white supremacist Silver Legion of America. The owner of record in 1933 was Jessie M. Murphy. Designed as a base for Nazi activities in the U.S., it was intended to be capable of being self-sustaining for long periods. The compound had a water storage tank, a fuel tank, a bomb shelter, and various outbuildings and bunkers. The estate's main gate was designed by Paul Williams, a well-known African-American architect in the Southern California area. On Monday, December 8, 1941, the day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, local police occupied the compound and detained members of the 50-strong caretaker force.As of 1990, it was abandoned and in a state of disrepair, and covered in graffiti. The site is currently owned by the city of Los Angeles. In early 2016, many of the ranch buildings were demolished, as they were deemed unsafe. A few buildings remain, including the power house, an all-concrete building that once contained the diesel generators. All entryways have been sealed.

Rancho Boca de Santa Monica (mouth of Santa Monica) was a 6,656-acre (26.94 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Los Angeles County, California given by governor Juan Alvarado in 1839 to Ysidro Reyes and Francisco Marquez.

The Robert Taylor Ranch is a ranch located on Mandeville Canyon Road, in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles, California. The ranch was built in 1956 for Waite Phillips and designed by architect Robert Byrd. It is about 112 acres (0.45 km2) large, with more than 20,000 square feet of living space.American actor Robert Taylor owned the ranch for several years before his death in 1969. The ranch was then purchased by Steven J. Earle, then sold in 1974 to Ken Roberts, former owner of the KROQ-FM radio station. The ranch is also the setting for most of the 1983 Sam Peckinpah movie, The Osterman Weekend. In 2010, the ranch was sold to hedge fund New Stream Capital to settle a $27,500,000 legal claim. On November 30, 2012, the ranch was resold at an auction for $12 million to Fred Latsko, a Chicago-based real estate developer. The auction was conducted by Concierge Auctions in partnership with Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate. The auction firm and Hilton & Hyland identified 761 buyer prospects and 12 bidders in only four weeks.

The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, named for the English botanist John Parkinson's herbal, Theatrum Botanicum (1640), is an open-air theater founded in Topanga Canyon, near The Getty Villa by Will Geer in 1973.In the 1950s, Geer was blacklisted for refusing to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities. He had to sell his large Santa Monica home and move his family to a small plot in the canyon where they could grow their own produce. Geer's friend Woody Guthrie had a small shack on the property. They unintentionally founded what became an artists' colony. Since its founding in 1973, the Geer family has continued to operate the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum. Geer's former wife, Herta Ware, helped develop the outdoor summer theatre and continued to appear in plays there after her husband's death in 1978. The company features Shakespeare, as well as modern and contemporary authors. The theater, set in the natural amphitheater of a mountain canyon, is also used for occasional concerts. Will Geer combined his acting and botanical careers at the Theatricum, by making sure that every plant mentioned in Shakespeare was grown there. Geer's ashes are at the site along with a bust in his likeness. Ware's ashes are there, as well.

Kehillat Israel is a Reconstructionist synagogue located in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, California, in the United States. It is one of two Reconstructionist synagogues in greater Los Angeles (the other being the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue). Its senior rabbi is Amy Bernstein.

San Vicente Mountain Park is a former Nike Missile Radar/Control Site in Southern California. The site is located on city-owned land above the Encino Reservoir along the unpaved portion of Mulholland Drive west of the 405 freeway. Access is by a short hike past a gate on a portion of dirt Mulholland Drive between Encino Hills Drive and Canoga Avenue.

The Villa Aurora at 520 Paseo Miramar is located in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles and has been used as an artists' residence since 1995. It is the former home of the German-Jewish author Lion Feuchtwanger and his wife Marta. The Feuchtwangers bought this Spanish-style mansion in 1943 for only $9,000, the annual salary of a school teacher. The house was a popular meeting place for artists and the community of German-speaking émigrés. Lion Feuchtwanger wrote six of his historical novels in this house: Der Tag wird kommen, Waffen für Amerika, Die Jüdin von Toledo, Narrenweisheit oder Tod und Verklärung des Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jefta und seine Töchter, and Goya oder der arge Weg der Erkenntnis.

Palisades Charter High School (usually colloquially known as Pali or Pali High and abbreviated as PCHS) is an independent charter secondary school in Los Angeles, United States. The high school serves the neighborhoods of Pacific Palisades, Palisades Highlands, Kenter Canyon, and portions of Brentwood (including Brentwood Circle). Residents in Topanga, an unincorporated section of Los Angeles County, may attend Palisades or William Howard Taft Charter High School.The school serves grades 9 through 12. Formerly directly administered by the Los Angeles Unified School District, the school is now an independent charter school. Its current enrollment numbers 2,903 students. Many students travel long distances to attend Palisades Charter High, which is one of the most highly ranked public high schools in the Los Angeles area. In 2005, Palisades was recognized as a California Distinguished School. In 2015, Palisades was named one of America's Best High Schools by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.Paul Revere Charter Middle School students are allowed to attend as a feeder school.
