San Diego Art Institute

The Mingei International Museum is a non-profit public institution that collects, conserves and exhibits folk art, craft and design. The museum was founded in 1974, and its building opened in 1978. The word mingei, meaning 'art of the people,' was coined by the Japanese scholar Dr. Sōetsu Yanagi by combining the Japanese words for all people (min 民) and art (gei 芸).

The House of Charm is a historic museum building in Balboa Park, San Diego. It was built for the 1915–16 Panama-California Exposition, and like most buildings from that Exposition it features Mission Revival Style architecture. It acquired its current name, "House of Charm", during the park's second Exposition held in from 1935 to 36. It now houses the San Diego Art Institute and the Mingei International Museum as well as rehearsal space for the Old Globe Theatre. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

El Cid Campeador is an outdoor equestrian statue depicting the Spanish knight El Cid by artist Anna Hyatt Huntington, architect William Templeton Johnson, and the foundry General Bronze Company, installed at Balboa Park's Plaza de Panama, in San Diego, California. The bronze sculpture was created in 1927 and dedicated on July 5, 1930. The statue measures approximately 11 x 9 x 7 ft, with a 16-foot diameter, and its concrete or Indiana limestone base measures approximately 11 x 14 x 8 ft. It was surveyed and deemed "treatment needed" by the Smithsonian Institution's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program in March 1994.Copies of Huntington's statue exist in other cities, including Buenos Aires, New York City, San Francisco, Seville, and Valencia. The New York cast is on the grounds of the Hispanic Society of America on Audubon Terrace in Manhattan. Anna Hyatt Huntington was the wife of Archer M. Huntington, the society's founder.

The Panama–California Exposition was an exposition held in San Diego, California, between January 1, 1915, and January 1, 1917. The exposition celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal, and was meant to tout San Diego as the first U.S. port of call for ships traveling north after passing westward through the canal. The fair was held in San Diego's large urban Balboa Park.

Cubi XV is an abstract stainless steel sculpture by David Smith. It is part of collection of the San Diego Museum of Art, and installed in Balboa Park's May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden. The statue is part of Smith's Cubi series.

The May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden is a sculpture garden featuring 19th- and 20th-century modern and contemporary sculptures, located adjacent to the San Diego Museum of Art's West Wing in San Diego's Balboa Park, in the U.S. state of California.

Spinal Column is a 1968 sculpture by Alexander Calder. It was commissioned for the San Diego Museum of Art in 1968 and was displayed in the May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden before being installed outside the museum. The work measures 118 in. x 100 in. x 90 in.

Mother and Daughter Seated (also known as Mother and Daughter, seated and Madre e Hija Sentadas) is a 1971 outdoor bronze sculpture by Francisco Zúñiga, installed at Balboa Park in San Diego, in the U.S. state of California. It is part of the collection of the San Diego Museum of Art.
