Red Hill Rail Trail

Merricks railway station was located on the Red Hill railway line. The line was opened in 1921 and was one of the more short lived branch lines on the Victorian Railways closing in 1952 with many other smaller branch lines in the railways system. The Merricks station grounds are now part of an equestrian facility. Part of the railway alignment between Red Hill and Merricks stations has also been converted into an equestrian and walking trail with the remaining majority of the line now located on private properties.

The Mornington Peninsula is a peninsula located south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is surrounded by Port Phillip to the west, Western Port to the east and Bass Strait to the south, and is connected to the mainland in the north. In 2002, around 180,000 people lived on the peninsula and in nearby areas, most in the built-up towns on its western shorelines which are sometimes regarded as outlying suburbs of greater Melbourne; there is a seasonal population of around 270,000. On 30 June 2017, the Mornington Peninsula population was recorded at 163,847 people. However, in the peak of summer the population increases to 225,000–250,000 people each year becoming the most populous coastal holiday area in Victoria with a larger population than Hobart.The peninsula is primarily a local tourist region, with popular natural attractions such as the variety of beaches both sheltered and open-sea and many scenic sights and views. Other popular attractions include the various wineries, mazes and the diverse array of water sports made available by the diversity of beaches and calm waters of Port Phillip and Western Port. Most visitors to the peninsula are residents of Melbourne who camp, rent villas and share houses or stay in private beach houses.

The Mornington Peninsula is an Australian wine region located south of Melbourne, Victoria. The region has a cool climate making wine growing ideal and focuses on Pinot noir production but has had success with other varietals including Chardonnay, Pinot gris and Tempranillo. The region is known for its medium bodied, dry wines and sparkling wines that show structure and complexity. The still wine versions of Chardonnay reflect a diversity of styles, all typically oaked, from more citrus to more tropical fruit flavors.

Part of the railway alignment between the former Red Hill and Merricks stations has been converted into the Red Hill Rail Trail, but the majority of the right-of-way has been sold to adjacent private landholders.

Red Hill South recorded a population of 708 at the 2021 census.There are several wineries in the area and it is referred to as the 'hinterland' of the Mornington Peninsula. Red Hill South Post Office opened on 22 January 1923.

Point Leo is a rural surfing locality in the Shire of Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. Point Leo Foreshore Reserve provides excellent waves for surfing and is one of the closest surf beaches to Melbourne. At the 2016 census, Point Leo had a population of 158.
