Lowesby railway station

Marefield Junction was a railway junction in Marefield, Leicestershire, England. Railway lines from the triangular junction ran westwards to Leicester, northwards to Nottingham and south to Market Harborough. There was never a station at this location, but just to the north was John O' Gaunt railway station; just to the south was Tilton railway station, and just to the west was Lowesby railway station. The viaduct close to the junction still exists although the line has been closed for nearly 50 years.

Tilton on the Hill is a village and (as just Tilton) a former civil parish, now in the parish of Tilton on the Hill and Halstead in the Harborough district of Leicestershire. The population of the civil parish of Tilton on the Hill and Halstead at the 2011 census was 601. It lies 2 miles north of the A47, on the B6047 to Melton Mowbray. Halstead civil parish (grid reference SK750056) was merged with Tilton on 1 April 1935, while the deserted medieval village of Whatborough (SK772059) was merged in on 1 April 1994. Marefield remains a separate civil parish, but is part of the Tilton Electoral Ward. In 1931 the parish of Tilton (prior to the merges) had a population of 152. St Peter's Tilton, the Parish Church is in the parish of Halstead, as is the vicarage. Tilton on the Hill is one of the highest places in East Leicestershire at 719 feet (219 m) above sea level, with the Mill House standing at the highest point. Whatborough is the highest summit in the eastern half of the county. The centre of the village was designated a Conservation Area in 1975, with the boundaries updated in 1994 and 2005.In 2009, the village was named as the "Best Village in Leicestershire" in the Calor Village of the Year competition and also won Calor "Sustainability Village of the Year" for the Midlands.Tilton is represented in cricket by Tilton and Lowesby CC. Rob Welsh is currently the captain.

Lowesby Hall is a large Grade II* Georgian mansion in the parish and former manor of Lowesby, eight miles east of Leicester in Leicestershire. It is a famous fox-hunting seat in the heart of the Quorn country. The poem "Lowesby Hall" by the Victorian English foxhunting MP William Bromley Davenport (1821–1884) was a parody of Alfred Tennyson's 1835 poem Locksley Hall.

Marefield is a hamlet and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 20. At the census 2011 the population remained less than 100 and is included in the civil parish of Owston and Newbold. It was also the birthplace of Wire drummer Robert Gotobed, and Thomas Hooker, one of the main founders of Connecticut, USA.

Cold Newton is a small hamlet and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. It is situated about two miles from Tilton on the Hill and two miles north of Billesdon. Some 700 feet (210 m) above sea level, it overlooks the Wreake valley. Any population remaining is listed in the civil parish of Lowesby.

John O'Gaunt, (properly John O' Gaunt) is a small village in the English county of Leicestershire. The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Twyford and Thorpe

John O'Gaunt railway station was a railway station serving the villages of Twyford, John O'Gaunt and Burrough on the Hill in Leicestershire, England. on the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway. It opened in 1879 as Burrow & Twyford and was renamed John O'Gaunt in 1883. It closed to regular traffic in 1953. To the south of the station was Marefield Junction.

Twyford and Thorpe is a civil parish in Leicestershire, England, comprising the villages of Twyford and Thorpe Satchville, and the hamlet of John O'Gaunt. The parish, which is in the Melton district, has a population of 612 at the time of the 2001 census, increasing to 628 at the 2011 census.

Burrough Court is a former stately home in Burrough on the Hill near Melton Mowbray in the East Midlands, England. Burrough Court was once the site of a large country house of which today only the stable yard, chauffeur's and grooms' quarters remain. The remaining buildings have now been converted into office suites, meeting rooms and a conference centre.

Skeffington Hall is a 15th-century Manor House which stands in parkland off the main street of the village of Skeffington, Leicestershire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building and is privately owned.The house was originally constructed in about 1450 and extended c1530 and again in the early or mid 17th century. It is built to an H-shaped plan in two storeys of coursed ironstone rubble with white limestone ashlar dressings and Swithland slate roofs. The main frontage, dating from the 17th century, has eight bays with a central projecting porch. A castellated parapet runs between projecting gables at each end. In the 16th century the house was the birthplace of Thomas Skevington, Bishop of Bangor and Sir William Skeffington, Lord Deputy of Ireland. It was later owned by William Farrell, whose son Sir William Farrell-Skeffington, 1st Baronet, an officer in the British Army, adopted the Skeffington surname and sold the Hall to the Tailby family just before his death in 1815. William Ward Tailby (1825-1914) was an avid huntsman and established his own pack of foxhounds at the hall in 1856 which became the Fernie Hunt. He was succeeded in turn by his nephew, T.M.J. Tailby (1862–1916) and George William A. Tailby (born 1893). Sir Richard Sutton, 2nd Baronet and a Master of the Quorn Hunt also resided at the Hall.

Skeffington is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. It lies 11 miles/18 km east of Leicester on the A47 Uppingham road, between Billesdon and Tugby and Keythorpe. The population at the 2011 census (including Rolleston) was 223.
