Velim, Goa

St. Xavier's High School is a private aided co-educational school located in Velim village in Salcete taluka in the Indian coastal state of Goa. The school was established in 1962 and is affiliated to Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

St. Anthony's High School was an aided co-educational school that provided primary and secondary education. It was located in Assolna village, adjacent to Regina Martyrum High School in the Indian coastal state of Goa. The school opened in 1921 and was established on August 28, 1964. However, it has been closed since the 2000s.

Regina Martyrum High School is a private aided co-educational school located within the Assolna village in Salcete taluka of Goa. It is administered by the Diocesan Society of Education, Panjim. The school is associated with the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and the Directorate of Education, Goa. It prepares students for Std. X (S.S.C) examination. The first batch of S.S.C had appeared in March 1974.

Cutbona (Konkani: Kutbonn), is a village subdivision located within the Velim village, neighbouring Betul. It is situated in the Salcete taluka and falls under the South Goa district, in the Indian coastal state of Goa. It is about 17 km (11 mi) away from the Margao city. It is famous for its fishing jetty known as the Cutbona fishing jetty, which is South Goa's largest fishing hub, where over 300 trawlers operate. It is also a part of the Velim Assembly constituency.

Baradi (Konkani: Barade), is a scenic village subdivision located within the Velim village, neighbouring Tollecanto and Betul. It is situated in the Salcete taluka and falls under the South Goa district, in the Indian coastal state of Goa. It is about 18 km (11 mi) away from the Margao city and is also a part of the Velim Assembly constituency. It is famous for the Miraculous Cross located atop the hill known as the Baradi Holy Cross, the feast of the cross is celebrated on 3 May, every year.

Betul is a coastal village located in the Salcete taluka, South Goa district, Goa, India. It is the southernmost village of Salcete and is well-known for its beach, lighthouse, and fort. It is lies about an hour south from Margao. The Sal river drains into the Arabian sea near Betul.

The Cuncolim Massacre or Cuncolim Revolt was an incident that involved the massacre and mutilation of Christian priests and civilians by Hindu chieftains in the Portuguese Goa village of Cuncolim on Monday, 15 July 1583. Five Jesuit priests along with one Portuguese civilian and 14 Goan Catholics were killed in the incident. The local Portuguese garrison retaliated by executing the village chieftains involved, and destroying the economic infrastructure of Cuncolim.
