Babes of Carytown is an LGBTQ friendly bar, founded in 1979 as a lesbian bar, and located in Richmond, Virginia. It is known for its beach volleyball court, live music, and drag shows. It is Richmond's only lesbian-focused bar, and one of fewer than twenty remaining in the country.From 2011 through 2016, it was the first place Reader's Pick in Style Weekly for Best Gay Bar. In 2017, Babes was inducted into the Style Weekly Hall of Fame. It then tied for first place as the Style Weekly Reader's Pick in 2018, and then was the first place Reader's pick from 2019 through 2021.In 2017, it was selected by Thrillist as Virginia's best dive bar and in 2022 was recognized by Tasting Table as among the best LGBTQ bars in the nation.In a 2017 report prepared for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources LGBTQ Heritage Working Group, Babes is described as "a rare survivor from the pre-1991 period, during which the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board regularly shut down establishments that served or employed LGBTQ individuals."

Cary Street Park and Shop Center, also known as the Cary Court Shopping Center, is a historic shopping center developed by the C.F. Sauer family in the Carytown district of Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1938 in the Art Deco style. Two rectangular wings to the west and east were completed in 1949 and 1951. The structure is essentially a one-story structure in the shape of an elongated "U" and constructed of brick, granite, limestone and marble veneer. It features a prominent parking area, an uninterrupted string of large modern aluminum and glass doors and commercial storefront windows, a stepped limestone parapet, curved windows, and a low, projecting stucco canopy.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Carillon Neighborhood Historic District encompasses a residential area of western Richmond, Virginia, USA. It is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of downtown Richmond, and is roughly bounded on the north and west by the Powhite Expressway and the Downtown Expressway, on the south by the Kanawha Canal, and on the east by Byrd Park. Although this area has a residential history dating back to the 19th century (when it was mainly country estates), its present architecture is reflective of its development first as a streetcar suburb, and then as a post-World War II housing development area.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Carytown is an urban retail district in Richmond, Virginia; it is along Cary Street at the southern end of the Museum District. Located west of the historic Fan District, Carytown has an eclectic flavor and includes more than 230 shops, restaurants, and offices. The Byrd Theatre, a restored movie palace that has operated continuously since 1928, is located in this district.

The Virginia Commission for the Blind is a historic building at 3003 Parkwood Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. It is a U-shaped two-story brick building with Colonial and Georgian Revival features. It was designed by the prominent Virginia architect J. Binford Walford and completed in 1940. It is prominent as the principal place associated with the work of Lucian Louis Watts, a leading force in the state to improve the social welfare its blind population.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Marburg is a historic home located in the Carillon/Byrd Park area of Richmond, Virginia. It is the oldest standing residence in this area of Richmond, predating nearby Maymont by 4 years. The house was slated for demolition in 2013 to make way for 6 new homes but was saved by an ardent group of preservationists and the Historic Richmond Foundation. The redesigned development will now incorporate and encircle the existing house. An exterior restoration was completed in 2015 returning the house to its original colors after being stark white for many years. The barn red roof color was also restored. Two antebellum structures survive on this property: a 2-room servant cottage and a kitchen, both of which pre-date the house itself by over 30 years (see below). As of February 2021, the house and dependencies have been repainted white with green shutters and roof, retaining a classic feel amongst the newer homes built around it.

A statue of Christopher Columbus was installed in Richmond, Virginia in 1927, where it stood until 2020 when it was torn down by protestors in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and thrown into a nearby lake.

The Byrd Theatre is a cinema in the Carytown neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. It was named after William Byrd II, the founder of the city. The theater opened on December 24, 1928 to much excitement and is affectionately referred to as "Richmond’s Movie Palace". Though equipped with a Wurlitzer pipe organ, the theatre was also one of the first of its kind to be originally outfitted for sound motion pictures.

English Village is a historic cooperative apartment complex in Richmond, Virginia. The planned community was designed by Richmond architect Bascom Joseph Rowlett and built in 1927. It consists of Tudor Revival style brick and half-timber buildings. The building complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.The development includes 17 attached 2 1/2-story units organized in a U-shape around a central courtyard set back from the street.English Village is one of the first cooperatives in the city of Richmond, an early example of a 1920s planned community. The infrastructure is largely shared amongst the units, with radiant heating utilizing water delivered from a central boiler system.

Byrd Park, also known as William Byrd Park, is a public park located in Richmond, Virginia, United States, north of the James River and adjacent to Maymont. The 200-acre (0.81 km2) park includes a mile-long trail with exercise stops, monuments, an amphitheatre, and three small lakes: Shields (sometimes spelled Sheilds), Swan, and Boat Lake. Boat Lake (also called Fountain Lake) has a lighted fountain at its center. Visitors can rent pedal boats there in season. The park includes tennis courts, Little League baseball fields, and a children's playground. The historic round house and Poplar Vale Cemetery are also located in the park. It is named after William Byrd II, whose family owned much of the area when Richmond was founded in 1737. The park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Carillon is a neighborhood in the West End of Richmond that is situated in between Virginia State Routes 146 and 161. Adjacent to Maymont and Byrd Park, the middle-class neighborhood is home to the Dogwood Dell Amphitheater. Pump House Drive and Rugby Road are the arteries of the southern tier of the community, while Douglasdale Avenue and South Belmont Drive form the spin of the northern portions of Carillon. The neighborhood is named after the city's carillon (built 1932), which is the 20th-tallest structure in the city limits.

The 2900 Block Grove Avenue Historic District is a national historic district located at Richmond, Virginia. The district encompasses five contributing buildings including three Queen Anne style houses and a square house with Mission/Spanish Revival decorative details. The houses were built between the late-1890s and 1912. Also included is a row of wooden carriage houses with cupolas and gingerbread scroll work.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
