Schuyler Island

Port Kent station is a temporarily closed Amtrak intercity train station in Port Kent, New York, normally served by the Adirondack. It is only served when the Lake Champlain Transportation Company Port Kent–Burlington Ferry is in operation – typically from May to October (typically Columbus Day). The station has one low-level side platform on the west side of the single track. The Delaware and Hudson Railroad built a freight station on the shores of Port Kent sometime between 1875 and 1876, and an open shelter in 1911, similar to the existing one. Amtrak has stopped at Port Kent since April 24, 1977, with a wood shelter added in 1989. In March 2020, the Adirondack was cancelled north of Albany–Rensselaer after all non-essential travel across the Canada–United States border was banned in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Service resumed on April 3, 2023; however, the stop at Port Kent remained closed because ferry service remained suspended.

The Elkanah Watson House is a historic house at Lake and South Streets in Port Kent, New York. Built in 1828, it was the home of Elkanah Watson (1758-1842), a businessman and diplomat best known for founding and promoting the idea of agricultural fairs. This house, still a private residence, was his home until his death. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

Port Kent is a hamlet within the town of Chesterfield, Essex County, New York, United States, on the western shore of Lake Champlain. Its population was last recorded as 217 (141 households). Its ZIP code is 12975. Seasonal ferry service to Burlington, Vermont, is provided by the Lake Champlain Transportation Company. The community has an Amtrak railroad stop for seasonal service between Montreal and New York City as well.Port Kent is the site of the Elkanah Watson House, a National Historic Landmark. Watson lived here following the American Revolution. A postwar entrepreneur, he promoted settlement and development of businesses, the construction of canals through the state, and founded the State Bank of Albany. After moving to his farm in Massachusetts, he established the first state fair in the new country, held in Pittsfield.

Lake Champlain ( sham-PLAYN; French: Lac Champlain) is a natural freshwater lake in North America. It mostly lies between the US states of New York and Vermont, but also extends north into the Canadian province of Quebec.The New York portion of the Champlain Valley includes the eastern portions of Clinton County and Essex County. Most of this area is part of the Adirondack Park. There are recreational facilities in the park and along the relatively undeveloped coastline of the lake. The cities of Plattsburgh, New York, and Burlington, Vermont, are on the lake's western and eastern shores, respectively, and the town of Ticonderoga, New York, is in the region's southern part. The Quebec portion is in the regional county municipalities of Le Haut-Richelieu and Brome-Missisquoi. There are a number of islands in the lake; the largest include Grand Isle, Isle La Motte and North Hero: all part of Grand Isle County, Vermont. Because of Lake Champlain's connections both to the St. Lawrence Seaway via the Richelieu River, and to the Hudson River via the Champlain Canal, Lake Champlain is sometimes referred to as "The Sixth Great Lake."

The Champlain Valley is a region of the United States around Lake Champlain in Vermont and New York extending north slightly into Quebec, Canada. It is part of the St. Lawrence River drainage basin, drained northward by the Richelieu River into the St. Lawrence at Sorel-Tracy, Quebec (northeast of Montreal). The Richelieu valley is not generally referred to as part of the Champlain Valley. The Champlain Lake Valley is the most heavily populated region in Vermont, broadly stretching eastward from the lake's shore to the base of the Green Mountains. The state's largest city, Burlington, is located on the lake, and the city's associated suburban communities encompass part of the central section of the valley. Beyond urbanized Chittenden County, however, the valley's landscape is primarily open pasture and row crops, making the Champlain Valley the most productive agricultural region of Vermont. The New York portion of the Champlain Valley includes the eastern portions of Clinton County and Essex County. Most of this area is part of the Adirondack Park, offering tremendous views of the Adirondack High Peaks region and many recreational opportunities in the park and along the relatively undeveloped coast line of Lake Champlain. The city of Plattsburgh is to the north, and the historic town of Ticonderoga is in the southern part of the region. The northern part of Lake George is located at, and near Ticonderoga, and therefore is a part of the Champlain Valley.

The Phoenix was a sidewheel paddle steamer operating on Lake Champlain between the United States states of New York and Vermont and the British province of Lower Canada (present-day Quebec). Built in 1815, she grounded, burned and sank in 1819 off the shore of Colchester, Vermont. Her surviving wreckage (approximately 40% complete) is the oldest known example of a sidewheel steamer anywhere in the world. The wreck site is a Vermont State Historic Site, which may be visited by registered and qualified divers. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Ausable River (), also known as AuSable River and originally written as "Au Sable", runs in the U.S. state of New York, from the Adirondack Mountains and past the village of Lake Placid and Au Sable Forks to empty into Lake Champlain (at 44°33′40″N 73°25′25″W). It has an East and West branch that join at Au Sable Forks. The river forms a partial boundary between Clinton County and Essex County. The Ausable River is known for its gorge, Ausable Chasm, located a few miles east of Keeseville. The Ausable River is 94 miles (150 km) long and drains a watershed of 516 square miles (1,340 km2).It was originally named "Au Sable" (French for "sandy") by Samuel de Champlain when he first explored the region in 1609 because of its extensive sandy delta.

Delaware and Hudson Railroad Bridge is a pair of historic Warren Steel Truss bridges over the Ausable River at AuSable and Peru in Clinton County, New York. Also known as the Delaware and Hudson Ausable River Bridge, they were built by the American Bridge Company for the Delaware and Hudson Railway in 1913. The North Bridge is 156 feet in length and the South Bridge 173 feet. They are both 16 feet wide and 25 feet in height.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Sunset Island is a three-acre island on Lake Champlain, located just west of the Greater Mallets Bay, Colchester, Vermont, United States. It is currently privately held, with Patricia McDonald as the majority owner. Originally named Hogback Island, the property was used by the caretaker of the Colchester Reef lighthouse for farming from 1871 until the lighthouse was decommissioned in 1933. In 1956, after the lighthouse had been relocated to the Shelburne Museum, Sunset Island went up for auction and was purchased by John McDonald and 3 other sportsmen to be used predominantly for duck hunting.There are no facilities on the island besides a one-room cabin left over from the lighthouse era that is used to store maintenance and landscaping requirements.

Old State Road Bridge is a historic Pratt Pony Truss bridge over the Ausable River at AuSable Chasm and Chesterfield in Clinton and Essex County, New York. It was built in 1890. The bridge is 107 feet (32.6 m) in length, 23 feet (7 m) wide, and 10 feet (3 m) in height.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Ausable Chasm is a sandstone gorge and tourist attraction located near the hamlet of Keeseville, New York, United States. It is directly due west of Port Kent. The Ausable River runs through it and then empties into Lake Champlain. The gorge is about two miles (3.2 km) long and is a tourist attraction in the Adirondacks region of Upstate New York. It is fed by the Rainbow Falls at its southern extreme.

AuSable Chasm Bridge is a historic steel arch bridge with concrete and stone faced approach spans that carries US 9 over the Ausable River at AuSable between Clinton and Essex Counties, New York. It was built in 1932–1933. The main span is 222 feet (68 m) in length, with two 52-foot (16 m) foot approach spans, for an overall length with approaches and abutments of 526 feet (160 m). It is approximately 40 feet (12 m) wide, with a span height of 45 feet (14 m) and overall height of 70 feet (21 m).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
