Aghada GAA

Rostellan (Irish: Ros Tialláin) is a civil parish, townland and village in the historical Barony of Imokilly, County Cork, Ireland. An electoral division of the same name forms part of the Cork East Dáil constituency. For census purposes, the village of Rostellan is combined with the neighbouring villages of Farsid and Aghada. As of the 2011 census, the combined settlement of Aghada-Farsid-Rostellan had a population of 1,015 people.

East Ferry is an area of East Cork overlooking Cork Harbour in Ireland. The area takes its name from a ferry which historically crossed the channel separating Garranekinnefeake promontory (close to Midleton) from Great Island (close to Cobh).East Ferry, a residential area on the Eastern side of this channel, is in the civil parish of Garranekinnefeake. Notable buildings in the area include Holy Trinity church, a 19th-century church in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, which was designed by architect William Atkins. A coastguard station was also previously located in the area.East Ferry Marina, a commercial marina on the Western side of the channel, is in the Marlogue area of Great Island. A sailing school, 'SailCork', operates from the marina.

Jamesbrook (Irish: Sruthán Shéamais) is a townland in the civil parish of Garranekinnefeake, in the historical Barony of Imokilly, in County Cork, Ireland. As of the 2011 census, the townland of Jamesbrook had a population of 39 people.Historically the townland was the location of an estate, Jamesbrook estate, which belonged to the Earl of Inchiquin. A house, Jamesbrook Hall, was originally built on the estate in the late 17th century by Michael Goold. It was reputedly built during the short reign of King James II, hence its name. Goold originally rented the estate, but subsequently bought the land. The property remained in the family after he died in 1722. A new manor house was built on the estate in the late 18th century. Michael Goold's daughter Frances married Wallis Adams (1749-1818). Their son, Michael Goold Adams, occupied the estate in 1814.

Holy Trinity Church is a small Gothic Revival Anglican church located in East Ferry, County Cork, Ireland. It was completed in 1830. It is dedicated to the Trinity. It is the church for Gurranekennefeake parish, part of the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross. It is included on Cork County Council's Record of Protected Structures.

United States Naval Air Station Queenstown was the first US Naval Air Station established in Ireland. NAS Queenstown was close to the village of Aghada on the eastern side of Cork Harbour (across the harbour from Queenstown/Cobh). NAS Queenstown was commissioned on 22 February 1918 with LCDR Paul J. Peyton, USNRF, Naval Aviator 47 in command.

Aghada (Irish: Áth Fhada, meaning 'long ford') is a village in County Cork, Ireland. It is situated on the eastern side of Cork Harbour, around 12 km by road south of Midleton. Aghada is also the parish name for the area. The civil parish of Aghada consists of several small villages and townlands including Saleen, Scartleigh, Rostellan, Farsid, Upper Aghada, Lower Aghada, Whitegate, Guileen and Ballinrostig. There are several amenity sites in the area, including Rostellan Woods and Saleen Creek, as well as a number of beaches such as Inch Bay, White Bay, and Guileen Strand. Aghada is within the Cork East Dáil constituency. Aghada power station was originally built in the early 1980s and produced up to 577 MW through the burning of natural gas and diesel. An additional gas-powered 430 MW CCGT unit was completed in 2010, making Aghada station one of the largest power stations in the Republic of Ireland.There is a Presbyterian church in Upper Aghada. During World War I the Royal Munster Fusiliers (reserves) were garrisoned in Aghada, and there was a United States Naval Air Station in the area. William Cosgrove, a World War I recipient of the Victoria Cross, is buried in Upper Aghada cemetery.The area is the home of the Aghada GAA club.

The R630 road is a regional road in southeast County Cork, Ireland. It travels from the R907 road at Midleton's Youghal Road, southwards through Ballinacurra and westwards through Rostellan, and turning south again through Whitegate. The statutary definition gives it as beginning at the R629 in Ballinacurra, but all maps and other material assign the Midleton–Ballinacurra stretch to the R630.

Saleen (Irish: Sáilín) is a small village and census town in County Cork, Ireland. It is located in the civil parish of Garranekinnefeake, in the Cork County Council municipal district of East Cork. Saleen lies on the R630 regional road between Midleton and Whitegate.Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a megalithic portal tomb in Saleen Creek near Rostellan, and ringfort sites in the neighbouring townlands of Scartlea Lower and Jamesbrook. The local church, the Church of the Mother of God, is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cloyne and is dated to c. 1801. It is listed on Cork County Council's Record of Protected Structures.At the start of the 2020 school year, Saleen's national (primary) school had an enrollment of over 450 pupils. The village had a population of 445 as of the 2016 census, up from 374 as of the 2011 census.

Aghada power station is a gas-fired power station located near the entrance of Cork Harbour in Aghada, County Cork. It was built at this location in order to use gas that had been discovered at the nearby Kinsale Head gas field, from which gas was extracted from 1978 until its depletion in 2020.The station has been operational since 1980, and in 2010 underwent a major upgrade which saw the output capacity almost double thanks to a new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT). According to its owner, the ESB Group, these upgrades saw it become one of the "largest and most efficient" power stations in Ireland.

Whitegate (Irish: an Geata Bán) is a small village in East Cork on the eastern shore of Cork Harbour in County Cork, Ireland. It lies within the townlands of Ballincarroonig and Corkbeg. Whitegate is within the Cork East Dáil constituency. The ruins of a 14th-century or 15th-century church lie in the grounds of Corkbeg churchyard close to Whitegate village. The current Church of Ireland parish church was built within the same churchyard in 1881.Once a fishing port and known for lace-making, during the 20th-century Whitegate became the location for Ireland's only oil refinery. This facility, Whitegate refinery, was built on Corkbeg Island on one side of Whitegate Bay and has been owned by Irving Oil since 2016. Aghada Power Generating plant lies on the other side of the bay. The writer William Wall grew up here, though his home, then vacant, was destroyed in a fire in 2008 in a suspected arson attack. Trabolgan Holiday Village is located nearby.

Ballymore (Irish: An Baile Mór, meaning 'the big town') is a small village on the Great Island in Cork Harbour, approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) from the town of Cobh and 23 km (14 mi) from Cork near the south coast of Ireland. Ballymore is the closest village to the centre of the island and is situated on the oldest and longest road on the island. Near Ballymore is the old cemetery of Templerobin where once stood an ancient church, one of three which may have been built on the island as early as the 9th century. According to Great Island Tours, a book published by the local library, Templerobin is mentioned in records dated 1302 and 1652 but by 1774 it was reported as being in ruins.Ballymore has a small Roman Catholic Church and is served by the school of the adjoining twin village of Walterstown, the two being townlands which jointly make up the village of Ballymore. The area is strongly associated with the Barry family, a powerful Norman era family which is still represented in the area today. Sports clubs in the area include Ballymore Athletic, where Sonia O'Sullivan, the 1995 World Championships in Athletics gold medalist in the 5,000m race, trained from an early age. There is also a local cycling club and the area hosts an annual cycle race. There is a single public house in the village, known as the Hi Chapperal. There was previously a Post Office in Ballymore but this has now been downgraded to a postal agency.
