Aghada power station is a gas-fired power station located near the entrance of Cork Harbour in Aghada, County Cork. It was built at this location in order to use gas that had been discovered at the nearby Kinsale Head gas field, from which gas was extracted from 1978 until its depletion in 2020.The station has been operational since 1980, and in 2010 underwent a major upgrade which saw the output capacity almost double thanks to a new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT). According to its owner, the ESB Group, these upgrades saw it become one of the "largest and most efficient" power stations in Ireland.

The Whitegate refinery, near Whitegate, County Cork, is Ireland's only oil refinery. It has a capacity of 75,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), sufficient to provide 40 percent of Ireland's fuel requirements. It was commissioned in 1959 and was redeveloped several times and produces a range of petroleum products.

United States Naval Air Station Queenstown was the first US Naval Air Station established in Ireland. NAS Queenstown was close to the village of Aghada on the eastern side of Cork Harbour (across the harbour from Queenstown/Cobh). NAS Queenstown was commissioned on 22 February 1918 with LCDR Paul J. Peyton, USNRF, Naval Aviator 47 in command.

Aghada (Irish: Áth Fhada, meaning 'long ford') is a village in County Cork, Ireland. It is situated on the eastern side of Cork Harbour, around 12 km by road south of Midleton. Aghada is also the parish name for the area. The civil parish of Aghada consists of several small villages and townlands including Saleen, Scartleigh, Rostellan, Farsid, Upper Aghada, Lower Aghada, Whitegate, Guileen and Ballinrostig. There are several amenity sites in the area, including Rostellan Woods and Saleen Creek, as well as a number of beaches such as Inch Bay, White Bay, and Guileen Strand. Aghada is within the Cork East Dáil constituency. Aghada power station was originally built in the early 1980s and produced up to 577 MW through the burning of natural gas and diesel. An additional gas-powered 430 MW CCGT unit was completed in 2010, making Aghada station one of the largest power stations in the Republic of Ireland.There is a Presbyterian church in Upper Aghada. During World War I the Royal Munster Fusiliers (reserves) were garrisoned in Aghada, and there was a United States Naval Air Station in the area. William Cosgrove, a World War I recipient of the Victoria Cross, is buried in Upper Aghada cemetery.The area is the home of the Aghada GAA club.

Corkbeg House was an historic house built on the island of Corkbeg in Cork Harbour. It was demolished to facilitate the creation of the Whitegate oil refinery.

Whitegate power station is a 445 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) electricity generating station near Whitegate, County Cork in Ireland. It was commissioned in 2010 and can supply up to ten percent of the electricity demand in Ireland.

Trabolgan (Irish: Trá Bholgan, meaning 'strand of Bolgan') is a self catering holiday village on a 140-acre (0.57 km2) site which was a former country estate in the civil parish of Trabolgan, County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The holiday camp was registered on 1 May 1984 (1984-05-01) and officially opened on 29 June 1985 (1985-06-29).

Fort Davis (Irish: Dún an Dáibhisigh; previously Fort Carlisle), is a coastal defence fortification close to Whitegate, County Cork, Ireland. Together with similar structures at Fort Mitchel (Spike Island), Fort Camden (Crosshaven), and Templebreedy Battery (also close to Crosshaven), the fort was built to defend the mouth of Cork Harbour. Though used as a fortification from the early 17th century, the current structures of the 74-acre site date primarily from the 1860s. Originally named Fort Carlisle and operated by the British Armed Forces, the fort was handed-over to the Irish Defence Forces in 1938, and renamed Fort Davis. The facility is owned by the Department of Defence, and is used as a military training site with no public access.

Roche's Point Lighthouse is situated at the entrance to Cork Harbour, Ireland. A lighthouse was first established on 4 June 1817 to guide ships into Cork Harbour. The original tower was deemed too small and in 1835 was replaced by the larger present tower which is 49 feet high with a diameter of 12 feet. Roche's Point Lighthouse, and a number of other structures, are located on a headland of the same name.

Ballymore (Irish: An Baile Mór, meaning 'the big town') is a small village on the Great Island in Cork Harbour, approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) from the town of Cobh and 23 km (14 mi) from Cork near the south coast of Ireland. Ballymore is the closest village to the centre of the island and is situated on the oldest and longest road on the island. Near Ballymore is the old cemetery of Templerobin where once stood an ancient church, one of three which may have been built on the island as early as the 9th century. According to Great Island Tours, a book published by the local library, Templerobin is mentioned in records dated 1302 and 1652 but by 1774 it was reported as being in ruins.Ballymore has a small Roman Catholic Church and is served by the school of the adjoining twin village of Walterstown, the two being townlands which jointly make up the village of Ballymore. The area is strongly associated with the Barry family, a powerful Norman era family which is still represented in the area today. Sports clubs in the area include Ballymore Athletic, where Sonia O'Sullivan, the 1995 World Championships in Athletics gold medalist in the 5,000m race, trained from an early age. There is also a local cycling club and the area hosts an annual cycle race. There is a single public house in the village, known as the Hi Chapperal. There was previously a Post Office in Ballymore but this has now been downgraded to a postal agency.

Cork Harbour (Irish: Cuan Chorcaí) is a natural harbour and river estuary at the mouth of the River Lee in County Cork, Ireland. It is one of several which lay claim to the title of "second largest natural harbour in the world by navigational area" (after Port Jackson, Sydney). Other contenders include Halifax Harbour in Canada, Trincomalee Harbour in Sri Lanka and Poole Harbour in England. The harbour has been a working port and a strategic defensive hub for centuries, and it has been one of Ireland's major employment hubs since the early 1900s. Traditional heavy industries have waned since the late 20th century, with the likes of the closure of Irish Steel in Haulbowline and shipbuilding at Verolme. It still has strategic significance in energy generation, shipping, refining and pharmaceuticals development.

The Port of Cork (Irish: Port Chorcaí) is the main port serving the South of Ireland, County Cork and Cork City. It is one of the three "Ports of National Significance (Tier 1)" as designated by National Ports Policy.It offers all six shipping modes (i.e. Lift-on Lift-off, Roll-on Roll-off, Liquid Bulk, Dry Bulk, Break Bulk and Cruise). In 2015, over 11 million tonnes of freight were shipped through the Port of Cork, making it the state’s second busiest port. As well as its berths upriver at Cork City, the port also includes other major locations across Cork Harbour, including Tivoli loading docks in the eastern suburbs, Cobh on the south of Great Island and Ringaskiddy on the west side of the harbour.
