The Waldstein is a mountain range in the northern part of the Fichtel Mountains in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, in southern Germany.

The Waldsteinburg, also called the Red Castle (German: Rotes Schloss) is a ruined castle on the summit of the Großer Waldstein in the Fichtel Mountains of Germany. It is also known as the Westburg ('west castle') to distinguish it from the older ruins of the Ostburg ('east castle').

The Großer Waldstein is part of the Waldstein range in the Fichtel Mountains of Germany. It is known primarily for its rock formations caused by spheroidal weathering, its ruined castles and the only remaining bear trap (Bärenfang) in the region.

The Höllpass is a 683 m high mountain pass in the northern part of the Fichtel Mountains in Bavaria, Germany. The Höllpass is located in the northwest of the horseshoe-shaped Fichtel Mountains range, the horseshoe being open to the east. It lies between the ridges of the Waldstein to the north and the Schneeberg–Ochsenkopf Massif to the south, which were formed almost at right angles to the tectonic fault lines in the Fichtel Mountains. The road running over the Höllpass – state road (Staatsstraße) number 2180 – climbs about 120 metres (390 ft) from the Kornbach valley near Gefrees to Torfmoorhölle in the borough of Weißenstadt.

The Bergkopf is an 857 metre high, thickly forested mountain in the Sparneck Forest in Germany's Fichtel Mountains. It lies in the northern chain of the Fichtel Mountain Horseshoe, near the crest of the Großer Waldstein. On its northern slopes is the granite rock formation of Kleiner Waldstein (829 m above NN), and, further north towards Sparneck, the source of the Förmitz river. To the northeast lies the granite mountain of Hoher Stein (817 m above NN) and, on its slopes, is the source of the Lamitz. To the southwest towards Weißenstadt, a monument commemorates the forester, Johann Braun, who died at that spot on 12 July 1881.
