Elewijt is a village in the municipality of Zemst, Flemish Brabant, Belgium.

Het Steen (lit. 'The Stone' or 'The Rock'), also known as the Rubens Castle (Rubenskasteel), is a castle in Elewijt, Flemish Brabant in Belgium. It was owned by the artist Peter Paul Rubens between 1635 and his death in 1640 and the castle features in some of his landscape paintings.

Zemst (Dutch pronunciation: [zɛmst]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the villages of Elewijt, Eppegem, Hofstade, Weerde, Zemst-Laar, Zemst-Bos and Zemst proper. On January 1, 2006, Zemst had a total population of 21,327. The total area is 42.83 km2 which gives a population density of 498 inhabitants per km2.

Weerde is a village in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. It is part of the municipality of Zemst. A train station is located in Weerde, connecting the two largest cities of the country, Brussels and Antwerp. The location of Weerde today is between two branches of the river Zenne. The old branch flows to the east, past the Weerde fish pond, while the new branch was built to the west of the town between the world wars to protect Weerde from flooding. To the south of Weerde, the remains of a medieval sluice tower and gateway can be seen in the fields, on the course of the old branch of the Zenne. The sluice was used to control the flow of water past the neighbouring watermill.History: While World War I, after the Battle of Marne the Belgian Army launched an attack, by September 13 1914, hoping to force the Germans back, the attack finally failed.

Zemst-Bos is a village in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. It is part of the municipality of Zemst and has about 1,000 inhabitants. Het Zwartland is a hamlet of the village.

In the Roman period there was an important settlement (vicus) on the territory of the present-day village of Elewijt (part of Zemst, Flemish Brabant, Belgium). It was located at the junction of a secondary road (deverticulum) with the major Roman road between Tongeren and Boulogne. In the early first century, a temporary military camp was built and not much later a village started to develop. At the end of the second century, the village was ravaged by Germanic tribes, after which it was slowly rebuilt with a completely different ground plan. The vicus continued to exist as a village until the late third century, but did not recover from a second heavy attack at the end of this period. The present-day village of Elewijt developed half a mile south of the center of the vicus and cannot be seen as its successor.

The Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ten Troost Kerk (Church of Our Lady of Consolation), simply known as the Troostkerk, is a basilica in Vilvoorde, Belgium. The history of the church and its Carmelite monastery (the oldest in Western Europe) go back 800 years. It was consecrated as a basilica on May 7, 2006 by Cardinal Godfried Danneels.

Hofstade is a village in the municipality of Zemst, Flemish Brabant, Belgium.

Vilvoorde (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvɪlvoːrdə] , French: Vilvorde [vilvɔʁd]; historically known as Filford in English) is a Belgian municipality in the Halle-Vilvoorde district (arrondissement) of the province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the city of Vilvoorde proper with its two outlying quarters of Koningslo and Houtem and the small town of Peutie. The official language of Vilvoorde is Dutch. There is a French-speaking minority of about 33.7%, concentrated especially in the Koningslo and Beauval quarter bordering Brussels. The French-speaking minority is represented by 3 members on the 33-seat local council. From 2000 until August 1, 2007, the mayor of Vilvoorde was former Belgian prime minister Jean-Luc Dehaene. The mayor since 2013 is Hans Bonte, also a member of the federal House of Representatives. The nickname for inhabitants of Vilvoorde is Pjeirefretters (horse eaters) because horse meat (especially steak) is a beloved food in Vilvoorde.

The Mechelen-Zuid water tower is a 143-metre-high (469 ft), combined water and telecommunications tower constructed in 1978. Since 1979, it has supplied the water to the city of Mechelen, Belgium, while also hosting television and telecommunications aerials. The concrete spire passes through a wide disc holding water fifty metres above the ground. Higher up, a smaller disc supports telecommunications equipment. Topped by a decorative stainless steel tube, it is claimed to be the highest water tower in the world.
