Birmingham Airport (IATA: BHX, ICAO: EGBB), formerly Birmingham International Airport, is an international airport located 7 nautical miles (13 km; 8.1 mi) east-southeast of Birmingham city centre, 9.5 nautical miles (17.6 km; 10.9 mi) west-northwest of Coventry slightly north of Bickenhill village, in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, England.Officially opened as Elmdon Airport on 8 July 1939, the airport was requisitioned by the Air Ministry during the Second World War and used by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Navy as RAF Elmdon. It was largely used for flight training and wartime production purposes. On 8 July 1946, the aerodrome was reopened to civilian operations. Birmingham Airport currently holds a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P451) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction. Passenger throughput in 2017 was over 12.9 million, making Birmingham the seventh busiest airport in the UK. The airport offers international flights to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, North America, and the Caribbean. Birmingham Airport is an operating base for Jet2.com, Ryanair and TUI Airways.

Chelmsley Wood, sometimes called just Chelmsley, is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, West Midlands, England, with a population of 12,453. It is located near Birmingham Airport and the National Exhibition Centre. It lies about eight miles east of Birmingham City Centre and 5 miles to the north of Solihull. The town is also close to both Coleshill and Water Orton in Warwickshire, the county the area was historically part of. In 1966 Birmingham City Council compulsorily purchased the ancient woodland and built the 15,590 dwelling council estate to rehouse families on its council house waiting list. With the rise in unemployment in the 1970s parts of the estate suffered from deprivation and anti-social behaviour. The area established a town council. Local government re-organisation in 1974 transferred the town to Solihull Metropolitan Borough, though responsibility for the housing remained with Birmingham until September 1980.

Grace Academy is a non-selective co-educational secondary school within the English Academy programme, at Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, West Midlands. It opened in 2006 and replaced the old Whitesmore School. It is a specialist Business and Enterprise college. Grace Academy Solihull is constituted as a company and registered charity under English law.In 2009 the school achieved average results for Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 but only 28% achieved 5 or more GCSEs grade C or above compared to a national average of 47.6%.

Marston Green railway station is located in the suburb of Marston Green, in the borough of Solihull, West Midlands, England. It is the nearest station to Chelmsley Wood. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Trains.

The Air-Rail Link is a people mover linking Birmingham Airport with Birmingham International railway station and the National Exhibition Centre in England. The current system, originally known as SkyRail, replaced the earlier Birmingham Maglev system in 2003. The current system is a fully automated cable-hauled system that opened in 2003 and has a length of 585 metres (1,919 ft). It takes passengers between the high-level railway station concourse and the airport terminal buildings. It is free to use, and handles three million passengers per year. The Birmingham Maglev was opened in 1984 and was the first commercial Maglev transport system in the world. It operated up until 1995. The system was fully automated and used an elevated concrete guideway, much of which has been reused for the current Air-Rail Link system.

The WMG Academy for Young Engineers (Solihull) is a mixed university technical college in Solihull which opened in 2016. It caters for students aged 14–19 years.The Academy is part of the same trust as the WMG Academy for Young Engineers, Coventry. It is sponsored by WMG, University of Warwick.

Meriden Park is a public park located in Chelmsley Wood, near Birmingham, UK. The park has a large natural lake, natural woodland, a children's play area, a skate park and a football pitch. It hosts a number of community events throughout the year. Meriden Adventure Playground, sited in the park and operated by an independent charity, is one of the leading adventure play facilities in the country. It offers free, open access play to 0 - 16 year olds Tuesday to Friday after school and all day during holidays. Under fives must be accompanied.

The station is on the Rugby–Birmingham–Stafford line 14 km (8.7 mi) east of Birmingham New Street and serves Birmingham Airport, National Exhibition Centre (incorporating the Resorts World Arena) and Resorts World Birmingham.

Fordbridge is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, in the West Midlands, England. It is 8 miles (13 km) east of Birmingham. According to the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 8,749. Fordbridge lies within the historic county of Warwickshire.

John Henry Newman Catholic College (JHNCC), formerly Archbishop Grimshaw School, is an English secondary school in the Fordbridge area of Solihull, although it lies in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull.

Tudor Grange Academy, Kingshurst (previously CTC Kingshurst Academy) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Kingshurst, Solihull, England. It was the only City Technology College to offer post-16 students the opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate instead of A-levels. It also offers the options of studying for GNVQs and BTECs in various subjects.
