Barhamsville, Virginia

The Battle of Eltham's Landing, also known as the Battle of Barhamsville, or West Point, took place on May 7, 1862, in New Kent County, Virginia, as part of the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War. Brig. Gen. William B. Franklin's Union division landed at Eltham's Landing and was attacked by two brigades of Brig. Gen. G. W. Smith's command, reacting to the threat to the Confederate army's trains on the Barhamsville Road. Franklin's movement occurred while the Confederate army was withdrawing from the Williamsburg line, but he was unable to interfere with the Confederate movement.

Holly Forks is an unincorporated community in New Kent County, Virginia, United States.

White Hall (also known as Whitehall Tavern and White Hall Farm) is a house and former tavern located in Toano, Virginia. It was built in 1805 by William Geddy and is still owned and maintained by the original family. It is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places.

Diascund was a railway stop, unincorporated community, and post office in Virginia located at milepost 47 on the Peninsula Extension of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in James City County. When this rail line was built in 1881, stations were established every few miles. To the west was the Lanexa station, and four miles to the east, Toano. The depot was east of the railroad’s crossing of Diascund Creek near the current Diascund Road. Along with other depots along the route, such as the surviving Lee Hall Depot, the Diascund depot was constructed in 1881 or shortly thereafter. By 1916 its board-and-baton siding it was painted in the "Colonial Buff" color scheme. The one-story depot was still standing in 1969. By 2008, it had been destroyed.

Lanexa is an unincorporated community partially in New Kent County, and partially in James City County, Virginia, United States. The ZIP Code for Lanexa is 23089. Lanexa is located by the Chickahominy River and has many tourism sites for camping and outdoor activities. Diascund Creek runs immediately to the east of the center of Lanexa. A dam creates the Diascund Creek Reservoir on the north side of the community. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Lanexa had a station on the Peninsula Extension of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway near where the tracks run along the Chickahominy River west of Diascund Creek. Today, the main artery is US Route 60.

Hickory Neck Church is a historic Episcopal church located just outside Toano, James City County, Virginia. The original section was built between 1733 and 1738, with an extension made to the main body of the church in 1773–1774. It was altered about 1825. It is a one-story, three bay deep, rectangular brick structure, measuring 36 feet, 6 inches, long by 28 feet, 6 inches, wide.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.The congregation dedicated a new, larger church building on the same campus in 2006. It features a pipe organ built by Jesse Woodberry for a Catholic church in New England which was purchased in 1983 by Old Donation Church in Virginia Beach. Extensive rebuilding took place at that time. It was donated to Hickory Neck in 2005 and additional ranks of pipes added.

Windsor Castle, also known as Windsor, is one of the few 18th century vernacular homes and associated farms that remain in agricultural use. Located about 3 miles from near Toano, James City County, Virginia, the original part of the house dates to about 1760, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, side passage plan frame dwelling. In the late-18th or early-19th century, it was expanded and transformed into a central passage plan.

Diascund Creek is the major tributary of the Chickahominy River in Virginia, part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The creek flows south and forms the border between New Kent County on the west and James City County on the east. In 1963, an earthen dam was constructed across the creek above Lanexa to create a 1,100 acre reservoir for Newport News Waterworks. The only public access directly to the creek is from Diascund Reservoir Park part of James City County's park system. There are also access points for members of local civic associations on both sides of the tidal creek. Since at least colonial times, the creek has been bridged at Lanexa where U.S. Route 60 crosses it. During the Revolutionary War British troops destroyed American naval supplies which were stored there on the night of April 22, 1781.In 1881, the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad bridged the creek further downstream as part of its Peninsula Extension. A bridge crossed the major channel to Hicks Island and a causeway connected the island to the eastern bank. The Diascund station was built just to the east. The Lanexa station was to the west. In the 1960s and 1970s, the subdivisions of The Colonies and Cypress Point were developed on the lower, tidal, section of the creek adjoining the Chickahominy River. Motor boating and waterskiing are popular on this section of the creek. Waterfront homes and erosion caused by the wake of the motor boats have altered the creek's shoreline and adjoining marsh lands. This effect was aggravated by the growth of hydrilla and other invasive submerged aquatic vegetation. Carp were introduced into the reservoir in 2013 to combat the invasive weed. This has led to a dramatic decline in the hydrilla, both in the reservoir and in the tidal creek, but native marsh plants have not taken its place.

Norge Train Depot is a historic home located at Norge, near Williamsburg, James City County, Virginia. It was built about 1907 by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway from standardized plans. The train station is the last surviving example of a wood frame "informal standard" depot in the six states that were served by Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. Originals were built according to an informal plan and no standard drawings were prepared or entered in the railway's set of design standards.It is a simple one-story wood balloon frame building, twelve bays wide on the south side, seven bays wide on the north end, and one bay deep. The building is sheathed in panels of German weatherboard and features a low hipped roof with overhanging and slightly flared eaves and boxed cornice covered with beaded board siding. In February 2006, the station was relocated about 1 mile to a site adjacent to the James City County Branch of the Williamsburg Regional Library (opened in 1996) on Croaker Road. It was renovated as a museum and a community center in 2012. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.In December 2015 the Norge Depot Association brought in a red Georgia Railroad caboose donated by the Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents in New Kent County. A restoration of the caboose is planned.
