Tallington railway station

Tallington is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 497. It is situated 4 miles (6 km) east from Stamford and 8 miles (13 km) north-east from the centre of Peterborough. The village has around 200 houses.

Barholm is a village in the civil parish of Barholm and Stowe, in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is 2 miles (3 km) west from the A15 road, and 6 miles (10 km) south from Bourne. In 1921 the parish had a population of 170.Barholm is first recorded as "Berc(a)ham" in 1086; the name is from Old English beorg + hām or hamm and means "homestead or enclosure on a hill."Hereward (later known as Hereward the Wake) owned land in Barholm and the nearby village of Stowe in the period before the Norman conquest in 1066.St Martin's Church is Grade I listed. The church received a new tower during the English Civil War and an inscription with the date 1648 reads: "Was ever such a thing Since the Creation? A new steeple built In the time of vexation."

The parish covers the village of Barholm and the Stowe hamlet.

It was created in 1894 from that part of the Stamford rural sanitary district which was in Kesteven (the rest forming part of either Ketton Rural District in Rutland, Easton on the Hill Rural District in Northamptonshire, or Barnack Rural District in the Soke of Peterborough). It covered the following parishes: Barholm Braceborough Greatford Stowe Tallington Uffington West Deeping WilsthorpeIt was abolished by a County Review Order in 1931, and went to form part of the South Kesteven Rural District.

Bainton is a village and civil parish in the Peterborough unitary authority area of Cambridgeshire, England. Bainton is on the southern edge of the Welland valley and lies 7.4 miles (11.9 km) north-west of Peterborough and 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Stamford. Ashton is a neighbouring hamlet and lies approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) south-east of Bainton within the same civil parish. At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population was 305 people and by the 2011 census the parish's population was 290 people.

Bainton Gate railway station was a short lived railway "station" in the Soke of Peterborough (now in Cambridgeshire) on the Syston and Peterborough Railway serving the village of Bainton. It was located at the level crossing on the Bainton to Tallington road. The crossing keeper's cottage survives and is now a private house. According to The Syston and Peterborough website, this cottage doubled as the station building. The station closed on 1 August 1856.

West Deeping is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 255. It is situated on the A1175 road, 5 miles (8 km) east from Stamford and 2 miles (3.2 km) west from Market Deeping. It is the smallest of The Deepings group of villages situated around the A1175 road. Village population is 277.The name 'Deeping' comes from the Old English deoping meaning 'deep place'. The Roman Road of King Street passes through the village and crosses the A1175. The church of St Andrew dates back to the 13th century, with further additions in 1676 and 1803 and a restoration in 1876–77, and is Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular in style. It is part of The Uffington Group of the Deanery of Stamford, in the Diocese of Lincoln.The village public house is the Red Lion.

Lolham is a hamlet in the City of Peterborough in England, located between Peterborough and Stamford on the border of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. Lolham is located to the west of Maxey and to the south of West Deeping and is surrounded by the River Welland and Maxey Cut. There are eight residential properties in Lolham, which include Lolham Hall, a Grade II listed building. The main London-to-Edinburgh railway (the East Coast Main Line) runs to the west of Lolham. The Roman road now called King Street crossed the Welland floodplain here. Lolham is known for its nine bridges that run north across two railway crossings from Helpston to West Deeping. Lolham Bridges is/are a Grade II* listed building. John Clare described the crossings in his poem called "The Flood":

Greatford is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 2 miles (3 km) west from the A15, 4.5 miles (7 km) north-east from Stamford, and 5 miles (8 km) south from Bourne. Greatford is noted for Greatford Hall, once the home of Francis Willis. In the 2001 Census, Greatford's population was found to be 260, increasing slightly to 268 at the 2011 census.

King Street is the name of a modern road on the line of a Roman road. It runs on a straight course in eastern England, between the City of Peterborough and South Kesteven in Lincolnshire. This English name has long been applied to the part which is still in use and which lies between Ailsworth Heath, in the south and Kate's Bridge, in the north. The old road continued to Bourne thence north-westwards to join Ermine Street south of Ancaster. This part of Ermine Street is called High Dike. In the south, King Street joined Ermine Street close to the River Nene, north of Durobrivae. The whole is I. D. Margary's Roman road number 26. (Margary pp. 232–234)

Barnack railway station was a station in the Soke of Peterborough (now Cambridgeshire) serving the village of Barnack. Despite being located adjacent to the village, the more remote Uffington & Barnack station on the Midland Railway Leicester to Peterborough line was more convenient for many journeys. Barnack station was opened by the Stamford and Essendine Railway (S&ER) on 9 August 1867; it was on the S&ER's branch from Stamford to Wansford. The S&ER was leased to the Great Northern Railway at the end of 1892. The line never really recovered from the 1926 general strike, and the station closed with the line on 1 July 1929. In 2014 the building survives as a private house.

Ashton is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Bainton, in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. In 1881 the parish had a population of 106.
