Briarwood Christian School is a private school in Birmingham, Alabama. It was founded by Briarwood Presbyterian Church in 1965. In 1970, when integration of the public schools was mandated by the federal government, the IRS began revoking the tax exempt status of segregation academies. During this time the school added a non-discrimination policy, although no black students were admitted.

Oak Mountain State Park is a public recreation area located approximately 20 miles (32 km) south of Birmingham in the northeast quadrant of the city of Pelham, Alabama, United States. It is the state's largest state park at 9,940 acres (4,020 ha) and is home to the Alabama Wildlife Center, Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, and Oak Mountain BMX Track. Park activities include hiking, running, mountain biking, swimming, camping, fishing, horseback riding, and golf. The park is managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Inverness is a former census-designated place and now neighborhood within Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It derives from a Scottish city of the same name. U.S. Route 280 runs through Inverness and includes many restaurants and shopping centers, along with a major intersection with Valleydale Road (County Road 17). The Inverness community is only a few miles from downtown Birmingham. The Cahaba River, Lake Heather, and the Inverness Country Club can be found in Inverness. Inverness is mostly located within the city limits of Hoover, with some portions in unincorporated Shelby County. An F2 tornado damaged business buildings here along with Pelham, Helena, and Indian Springs on March 27, 1994 .

Brook Highland (formerly known as Lake Purdy) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,406.

The Tradition (known as the Regions Tradition for sponsorship reasons) is an event on the PGA Tour Champions. First staged 34 years ago in 1989, the PGA Tour recognizes the event as one of the five senior major golf championships. Unlike the U.S. Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship and Senior Open Championship, it is not recognized as a major by the European Senior Tour, and is not part of that tour's official schedule. It is the only senior major where the winner does not earn an exemption into a PGA Tour or European Tour event.

The 2016 Regions Tradition was a senior major golf championship and the 28th Regions Tradition, held from May 19-22 at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Hoover, Alabama. It was the first Regions Tradition played at the course. World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer won his first Regions Tradition and his sixth senior major championship by 6 strokes over Olin Browne.

Greystone Golf & Country Club is a private 36-hole golf club in the southeastern United States, located in Hoover, Alabama, a suburb southeast of Birmingham. Opened 32 years ago in 1991, the first of the two courses was the Founders Course, designed by Bob Cupp and Hubert Green. The Legacy Course opened in 2000, designed by Rees Jones. The Legacy Course is currently ranked #89 in Golf Week's Top 100 Residential Courses.From 1992–2005, the club hosted the Bruno's Memorial Classic on the senior tour. The Founders Course was so beloved by the players, officials, and media that they voted it in a Sports Illustrated poll as the #1 stop on the tour two years in a row.Since 2016, the Founders Course has hosted the Regions Traditions, a senior major championship. It had been held nearby at Shoal Creek for the previous five editions.

The 2017 Regions Tradition was a senior major golf championship and the 29th Regions Tradition, held from May 18-21 at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Hoover, Alabama. It was the second Regions Tradition played at the course. World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer won his second consecutive Regions Tradition and his eighth senior major championship by five strokes over Scott McCarron and Scott Parel.
