Watlington railway station

Watlington is a village, civil parish and electoral ward in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 6.93 km2 (2.68 sq mi) and had a population of 2,031 in 852 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 2,455 at the 2011 Census. It is in the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The villages name means 'farm/settlement of Hwaetel's/Wacol's people' or perhaps, 'farm/settlement at Wateling (= Wattle/thatching place)'.It is situated some 1.2 mi (1.9 km) from the east bank of the River Great Ouse, 7.5 mi (12.1 km) south of the town of King's Lynn and 37 mi (60 km) west of the city of Norwich.The village is directly served by Watlington railway station (on the Fen Line between Cambridge and King's Lynn) which is situated 0.62 mi (1.00 km) from the centre of the village. Amenities in the village include a public house, Post Office and medical centre with pharmacy. There is also a sports and social club, village hall and church to the north east of the village. A small nature reserve named 'Watatunga' opened to visitors in July 2020, offering guided buggy tours amongst '170 acres of woodland, grassland and lakes'. This occupies a vast area directly situated between Watlington and the nearby A10 trunk road.

Holme railway station was located on the line between Stow Bardolph and Watlington in Norfolk, England. It served the parish of Runcton Holme, and closed in 1853.

Runcton Holme is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 13.89 km2 (5.36 sq mi) and had a population of 676 in 288 households at the 2001 census, the population reducing to 657 at the 2011 census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The civil parish includes South Runcton. The villages name means 'Pole farm/settlement on an island', perhaps denoting a trackway or an enclosed settlement. The parish church of St James, Runcton Holme, is a Grade I listed building. St Andrew's in South Runcton is Grade II*.

Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen is a civil parish and village in the English county of Norfolk. It is 6 miles (9.7 km) south of the town of King's Lynn on the west bank of the River Great Ouse. It covers an area of 17.76 km2 (6.86 sq mi) and had a population of 729 in 304 households in the 2011 census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The villages name means 'Wicga's nook of land'.In the Domesday Book of 1085, it appears that all two of the Wiggenhall parishes were at that time a single parish named Wiggenhall, of modest size and sharing half a water mill on the old Wiggenhall Eau (the watercourse which ran through the parish before the Great Ouse arrived in the 13th Century) with Runcton Holme. The earliest evidence of settlement is therefore the parish church of St Mary Magdalen, which is situated in the very northeastern corner of the parish. Most of the early settlement appears to have occurred here, probably due to the presence of a levee along the western side of the River Great Ouse, made of silts deposited by a former watercourse, the Wiggenhall Eau. The church itself is largely Perpendicular in style, but the tower may date from as early as the 13th century, which is corroborated by the entry in the Register of Crabhouse Priory which tells of the Nuns taking refuge at the Church from a flood in the early 13thC. Today the church is almost entirely red brick, with a façade that is the result of a thoroughly 15th century rebuilding. The Parish contains two centres of population: around the Parish Church in the North, and to the South of Crabhouse Priory in the far South, now known as Stowbridge, which also extends into neighbouring parishes. John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk, KG, Earl Marshal (c.1425 – 22 August 1485) was the grandson of Sir John Howard of Wiggenhall. A tidal bore travels up the Great Ouse which is the area's most significant topographical feature. Magdalen Gate railway station was the name of the station on the Great Eastern Railway.

Stowbridge or Stow Bridge is a village in the parish of Stow Bardolph, extending into Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen, in the English county of Norfolk. The parish of Stow Bardolph also includes Barroway Drove. Stowbridge is between Downham Market and King's Lynn on the banks of the River Great Ouse. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The Great Ouse, the Relief Channel and the mainline railway from King's Lynn to Cambridge run through the heart of the community.

St. Germain's railway station was located on the line between Kings Lynn and Watlington. It served the parish of Wiggenhall St. Germans, and closed in 1850.

Magdalen Gate railway station was located on the line between Middle Drove and Watlington. It served the parish of Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen, and closed in 1866. Nothing remains of the station.

Setchey SSSI is a 33.4-hectare (83-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of King's Lynn in Norfolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site throws light on sea level changes in the Holocene, the period since the end of the last ice age, 11,700 years ago. It is part of a network of Fenland sites which allows correlation across the area.The site is private land with no public access.

Wiggenhall St Germans is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk in the East of England. It is 85 miles (137 km) north of London and 5 miles (8.0 km) south-west of King's Lynn. The parish covers an area of 18.98 km2 (7.33 sq mi) and had a population of 1,373 in 554 households at the 2011 census. The parish is on the River Great Ouse which divides the village into two. Most of the parish lies below the high-water mark and some areas are level with the bed of the river, which is confined by high banks. The parish includes the hamlets of Wiggenhall St Mary the Virgin and Wiggenhall St Peter, and the settlements of Eau Brink and Saddlebow (Saddle Bow on some maps).

Stow Bardolph railway station, in the parish of Stow Bardolph, Norfolk, served the villages of Stow Bardolph and Stowbridge. It closed in 1963. The Lynn & Ely Railway Bill received the Royal Assent on 30 June 1845. Work started on the line in 1846 and the line and its stations were opened on 27 October 1846. Stow Station opened with the line and was situated South of Holme Gate Station and north of Downham Station. The line ran from Ely to Downham, the eventual destination being Ely.

Wiggenhall St Germans SSSI is a 5.2-hectare (13-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of King's Lynn in Norfolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site provides evidence for sea level changes during the Quaternary period, the last 2.6 million years. There are three peat layers, interspersed with fine-grained clastic rocks, and they have been studied with pollen and foraminifera analyses.A public footpath crosses the site.

Tottenhill is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 5.90 km2 (2.28 sq mi) and had a population of 231 in 97 households at the 2001 census, reducing to 219 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The villages name means 'Totta's hill'.
