Solingen

The 1954 UCI Road World Championships was the 27th edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August in Solingen, West Germany. The races took place on the Klingenring, a hilly 15-kilometre circuit near Solingen. It was the first time after World War II that the world championships were held in Germany. Rain and cold made the races extra tough. Among the amateurs, Belgian Emiel Van Cauter won the title by a wide margin after a solo effort. Frenchman Louison Bobet won the world professional title. Bobet had already won the Tour de France that same year. It was only the second time a rider had managed this double. His compatriot Georges Speicher did it in 1933. In the same period, the 1954 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Müngersdorfer Stadion in Cologne and the Stadion am Zoo in Wuppertal.

Solingen Grünewald station is in the city of Solingen in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is on the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen–Solingen railway. The line through the site of Solingen Grünewald station was opened on 12 February 1890 as part of the Solingen–Wuppertal-Vohwinkel line, known as the Korkenzieherbahn ("Corkscrew Railway"), to Vohwinkel. The station was opened on 6 May 2006. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 3 station.The station is served by line S 7 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn, branded as Der Müngstener, operated every 20 minutes from Monday to Friday and generally every half hour on weekends and at off-peak times, using (LINT 41) vehicles. Until 15 December 1913 the station was served by Regional-Express service RB 47, operated by DB Regio NRW, normally with two-carriage sets of class 628.4. The Abellio Deutschland company won a contract that was put to tender in November 2010 and took over the operation of passenger services on the route from December 2013 for a period of 15 years.It is served by a trolleybus line operated by Stadtwerke Solingen at 10-minute intervals. Stadtwerke Solingen also operates bus route 699 through the station six times a day. The station is served every 60 minutes by bus route 250 operated by Wiedenhoff.

The Gymnasium Schwertstraße in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany was established on 15 October 1841 as the Höhere Bürgerschule, and is the oldest and most traditional of the four gymnasiums in the city.

The Solingen arson attack was one of the most severe instances of xenophobic violence in modern Germany. On the night of 28–29 May 1993, four young German men (ages 16–23) belonging to the far right skinhead scene, with neo-Nazi ties, set fire to the house of a large Turkish family in Solingen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Three girls and two women died; fourteen other family members, including several children, were injured, some of them severely. The attack led to violent protests by Germans of Turkish descent in several German cities and to large demonstrations of other Germans (of non-Turkish descent) expressing solidarity with the Turkish victims. In October 1995, the perpetrators were convicted of arson and murder and given prison sentences between 10 and 15 years. The convictions were upheld on appeal.

The Botanischer Garten Solingen is a 6-hectare (15-acre) botanical garden located at Vogelsang 2a, Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is open daily without charge.

Gräfrath or Graefrath is a district of Solingen in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, about 23 kilometres (14 mi) east of Düsseldorf.

SALTUS Industrial Technique GmbH, or SALTUS, located in Solingen/Germany is a part of the Swedish Atlas Copco Group with main office in Stockholm/Sweden. Saltus is integrated in the Group since 2013 as product company with focus of engineering and production of torque wrenches as well as sockets, bits and special, customized sockets.

The Kohlfurther Bridge (Kohlfurther Brücke) is a truss bridge made of steel over the Wupper river in the borough of Cronenberg in Wuppertal, located on the city limits of Solingen. It served the Straßenbahn from Elberfeld to Solingen until the tramway was shut down in 1969, at which point it became a pedestrian bridge. The name of the bridge is also the name of a street. On April 13, 2006, it was registered in the architectural list, the Baudenkmalliste, of the city of Wuppertal and on May 3, 2006 in the city of Solingen. An extensive restoration was completed on May 8, 2010.

Kaltenbach is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Wupper near Solingen.

The Bergische Museumsbahn is a heritage tram museum situated in the German city of Wuppertal. It operates its own tram line south of Wuppertal on original rails with original cars. Therefore, it's one of the smallest running tram systems in the world. Wuppertal still operates the "Schwebebahn", a unique overhead railway.
