The Gymnasium Schwertstraße in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany was established on 15 October 1841 as the Höhere Bürgerschule, and is the oldest and most traditional of the four gymnasiums in the city.

The Abellio Deutschland company won a contract that was put to tender in November 2010 and took over the operation of passenger services on the route from December 2013 for a period of 15 years.

Solingen (German pronunciation: [ˈzoːlɪŋən] (listen)) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located some 25 km east of Düsseldorf along the northern edge of the region called Bergisches Land, south of the Ruhr area, and, with a 2009 population of 161,366, is after Wuppertal the second largest city in the Bergisches Land. It is a member of the regional authority of the Rhineland. Solingen is called the "City of Blades", since it has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors and razors made by famous firms such as WKC, DOVO, Wüsthof, Zwilling J. In medieval times, the swordsmiths of Solingen designed the town's coat of arms, which continues to the present. In the latter part of the 17th century, a group of swordsmiths from Solingen broke their guild oaths by taking their sword-making secrets with them to Shotley Bridge, County Durham in England.

The 1954 UCI Road World Championships was the 27th edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August in Solingen, West Germany. The races took place on the Klingenring, a hilly 15-kilometre circuit near Solingen. It was the first time after World War II that the world championships were held in Germany. Rain and cold made the races extra tough. Among the amateurs, Belgian Emiel Van Cauter won the title by a wide margin after a solo effort. Frenchman Louison Bobet won the world professional title. Bobet had already won the Tour de France that same year. It was only the second time a rider had managed this double. His compatriot Georges Speicher did it in 1933. In the same period, the 1954 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Müngersdorfer Stadion in Cologne and the Stadion am Zoo in Wuppertal.

The Kohlfurther Bridge (Kohlfurther Brücke) is a truss bridge made of steel over the Wupper river in the borough of Cronenberg in Wuppertal, located on the city limits of Solingen. It served the Straßenbahn from Elberfeld to Solingen until the tramway was shut down in 1969, at which point it became a pedestrian bridge. The name of the bridge is also the name of a street. On April 13, 2006, it was registered in the architectural list, the Baudenkmalliste, of the city of Wuppertal and on May 3, 2006 in the city of Solingen. An extensive restoration was completed on May 8, 2010.
