Bishopstone railway station

Bishopstone is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Seaford, in the Lewes district, in the county of East Sussex, England. Bishopstone Village has a population of about 200 people, including the nearby hamlet of Norton. It is located on a no-through country lane west of the town of Seaford, in the South Downs National Park.

Tide Mills is a derelict village in East Sussex, England. It lies about two kilometres (1.2 miles) south-east of Newhaven and four kilometres (2.5 miles) north-west of Seaford and is near both Bishopstone and East Blatchington. The village was condemned as unfit for habitation in 1936 and abandoned in 1939.

Bishopstone Beach Halt was a railway station in East Sussex, England that was opened on 1 June 1864 and closed on 1 January 1942. The station was built on the Seaford Branch Line for residents of the Bishopstone and Tide Mills villages and located on the west side of Mill Drove. The company that operated the trains on opening was the London Brighton & South Coast Railway, later merged into the Southern Railway.

Seaford railway station is in Seaford, East Sussex, England. It is the terminus of the Seaford branch line of the East Coastway line, 58 miles 77 chains (94.9 km) measured from London Bridge. The line to the station has been reduced to a single track and only one platform remains in use (previously two), though it is still numbered "platform 2". Platform 1 is still visible but the track has been removed. Train services from the station are provided by Southern. The London, Brighton and South Coast Railway opened Seaford station on 1 June 1864. It was designed as a through station for a proposed extension to Eastbourne that was never built. A working model of Seaford Station as it appeared in the 1920s is displayed at Seaford Museum.

Seaford is a town in East Sussex, England, east of Newhaven and west of Eastbourne.In the Middle Ages, Seaford was one of the main ports serving Southern England, but the town's fortunes declined due to coastal sedimentation silting up its harbour and persistent raids by French pirates. The coastal confederation of Cinque Ports in the mediaeval period consisted of forty-two towns and villages; Seaford was included under the "Limb" of Hastings. Between 1350 and 1550, the French burned down the town several times. In the 16th century, the people of Seaford were known as the "cormorants" or "shags" because of their enthusiasm for looting ships wrecked in the bay. Local legend has it that Seaford residents would, on occasion, cause ships to run aground by placing fake harbour lights on the cliffs.Seaford's fortunes revived in the 19th century with the arrival of the railway connecting the town to Lewes and London. It became a small seaside resort town, and more recently a dormitory town for the nearby larger settlements of Eastbourne and Brighton, as well as for London. The traditional Sussex pronunciation of the name has a full vowel in each syllable: "sea-ford". However, outside Sussex, and increasingly within, it is commonly pronounced with a reduced vowel on the second syllable: SEE-fərd.

The Old Town Hall is a municipal building in South Street in Seaford, East Sussex, England. The structure, which is used as a community tea room, is a Grade II listed building.

East Blatchington is a coastal village in East Sussex which has merged into the western part of Seaford, contiguous with Bishopstone, in the civil parish of Seaford, in the Lewes district, in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located near the abandoned village of Tide Mills.

Seahaven is the name given to an area in East Sussex that includes the towns of Seaford and Newhaven and Peacehaven and the surrounding towns in the Ouse Valley which leads to the East Sussex county town of Lewes. The Seahaven name is used by the sports centre in Newhaven, the local police force, the local community radio station and many businesses.

The Seaford Museum and Heritage Society is a local history museum located at the Martello Tower in East Sussex, England. It was established in 1979 and contains objects, archives and displays relating to the history of the local area.
