Fitchburg Historical Society

Fitchburg is a city in northern Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The third-largest city in the county, its population was 41,946 at the 2020 census. Fitchburg State University is located here.

The Monument Park Historic District is a historic district centered on Monument Park in downtown Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The district has one of the city's finest assemblages of high-quality architecture, including a number of civic, religious, and commercial buildings near the park. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Fay Club is a private social club located at 658 Main Street in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. It has operated since 1910. The club's building was designed in 1883 by Richard M. Upjohn as the private home of George Fay and his daughter Lucy, and was constructed in 1884. The clubhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Calvinistic Congregational Church is an historic church building located at 820 Main Street in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. In 1967, the congregation joined with the First United Methodist Church of Fitchburg to form a cooperative ministry called Faith United Parish. Built in 1896. the church was designed by architect Henry M. Francis, and is one of the city's finest examples of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Since 2013 the building has been owned by the Casa De Gracia y Restauración (House of Grace and Restoration).

The Safety Fund National Bank is a historic bank building at 470 Main Street in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Completed in 1895, it is a prominent work of local architect H.M. Francis, and one of its only buildings to continuously house a bank since its construction. The building, now home to a TD Bank branch, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Applewild School is an independent, coeducational, day and junior boarding school centrally located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Founded in 1957, it has approximately 200 students aged 4 to 15, with a Preschool for children 2.9 years and older on two locations: the Main Campus is located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and Applewild Preschool at Devens is located in Devens, Massachusetts. The average class size is 14 students. The school's motto is "A Belief in the Future." The school is accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of New England and belongs to the National Association of Independent Schools.

The Fitchburg Intermodal Transportation Center is a regional rail and bus station located in downtown Fitchburg, Massachusetts. It is a stop on the MBTA Commuter Rail Fitchburg Line and a hub for Montachusett Regional Transit Authority local and intercity bus routes.

The Fitchburg Yarn Mill is an historic mill building at 1428 Main Street in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Built in 1907 and enlarged several times, it was one of the city's largest textile operations for over 60 years. The building is an important local work of Frank Sheldon, a noted industrial architect of the period. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

The Moran Square Historic District is a historic district encompassing an area of late 19th and early 20th-century industrial, commercial, and residential development in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Centered on the triangular junction of East Main Street with Lunenburg and Summer Streets, this area developed as a secondary node apart from the city's main commercial district (located just 0.25 miles (0.40 km) to the west), in an area were several industrial plants were undergoing significant growth. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

WXPL (91.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The station is owned by Fitchburg State University. It airs a college radio format.The station was assigned the WXPL call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on September 26, 1984.The station has a long record of maintaining an erratic broadcast schedule. The station's official Web site notes that the station is "back on air" again after a recent transmitter problem and once again broadcasting in stereo.

Crocker Field is an outdoor sports and recreation facility for the children of the Fitchburg Public School System in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The complex consists of a number of athletic facilities on a 5.5-acre (2.2 ha) plot of land near the Nashua River. There are indoor and outdoor playing areas, an outdoor stadium, a field house, and a ticket booth and concession stand. The site is enclosed on three sides by a wrought iron fence resting on a concrete base, with periodic square concrete pillars. Most of the complex was built in 1918, with landscaping designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The facility was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 as the Crocker Field Historic District.

Fitchburg State University (Fitchburg State) is a public university in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. It has 3,421 undergraduate and 1,238 graduate/continuing education students, for a total student body enrollment of 4,659. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in 25 academic disciplines. The main campus, the McKay Campus School, and athletic fields occupy 79 acres (320,000 m2) in the city of Fitchburg; the biological study fields occupy 120 acres (490,000 m2) in the neighboring towns of Lancaster, Leominster, and Lunenburg.
