Am Rothenbaum

The Hamburg European Open (formerly German Open Tennis Championships) is an annual tennis tournament for professional players held in Hamburg, Germany and part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. Before 2021, it was a male-only event.The tournament is played on outdoor clay courts at the tennis center Am Rothenbaum in the Harvestehude quarter. For much of its history, the tournament was contested in May, as a precursor to the French Open on the professional tennis calendar. Starting with the 2009 tournament, it has been held in July instead.The women's event was held initially separately from 1982 to 1983 (in Hittfeld), and again from 1987 through to 2002. It was part of the WTA Tour and existed under several different sponsored names, most commonly known as the Citizen Cup (1987–1995) and the Betty Barclay Cup (1999–2002). WTA Hamburg was the location where Monica Seles, then-world No.1, was stabbed during a match by a disorderly local tennis fan on April 30, 1993. In 2021, Hamburg returned to the calendar of the WTA tour, becoming part of its WTA 250 series category of tournaments.

Sportplatz am Rothenbaum was a multi-use stadium in Hamburg, Germany, from 1910–1997. Situated at Rothenbaumchaussee in Rotherbaum, it was used mostly for football matches and hosted the home matches of Hamburger SV. The stadium was able to hold 27,000 people and opened in 1910. It was eventually replaced by Volksparkstadion in 1963 and was closed for good in 1997.

Hallerstraße station is a metro station served by Hamburg U-Bahn line U1. It is located in Rotherbaum, in the Hamburg borough of Eimsbüttel was opened in 1929.

N-Joy (also N-JOY) is a German, public radio station by the Norddeutschen Rundfunk (NDR) made for listeners with an age between 14 and 39. The headquarters is in Hamburg. Program director is Norbert Grundei. N-Joy started broadcasting on 4 April 1994. The actual program is dominated by charts oriented music, interviews with musicians and unplugged songs. N-Joy does not broadcast any advertisement. The listeners have the possibility to offer music wishes and to communicate with the moderators via e-mail, Facebook and via telephone. The listeners also have the chance to get tickets for "secret concerts" (not public planned concerts of musicians with less security and less visitors).

St. Johannis-Harvestehude (St. John-Harvestehude), Hamburg, is a neo-gothic Protestant church built between 1880 and 1882 and considered one of the best-preserved turn-of-the-century monuments of Hamburg. Contrary to what the name might suggest, the church is located in the Rotherbaum quarter of Hamburg, between the streets of Turmweg and Mittelweg, near the Außenalster.

The Hamburg Temple (German: Israelitischer Tempel) was the first permanent Reform synagogue and the first ever to have a Reform prayer rite. It operated in Hamburg (Germany) from 1818 to 1938. On 18 October 1818 the Temple was inaugurated and later twice moved to new edifices, in 1844 and 1931, respectively.

The Rothenbaumchaussee is an inner-city street in the Hamburg quarters of Rotherbaum and Harvestehude. It runs from the Edmund-Siemers-Allee at Hamburg Dammtor station to the Klosterstern square.

Harvestehude (German pronunciation ; Hamburgisch: Harvstehuud) is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Eimsbüttel. It is located on the eastern boundaries of the borough near lake Außenalster.

The Hamburg Institute for Social Research is an independent private foundation whose scholarship is focused on both contemporary history and the social sciences. Founded in 1984 by Jan Philipp Reemtsma, it currently employs about 50 people with roughly 50% working in the research fields of sociology and history. The institute publishes a bimonthly journal called Mittelweg 36 and has its own publishing house.

The Museum am Rothenbaum – Kulturen und Künste der Welt (lit. Museum at the Rothenbaum – Cultures and Arts of the World, abbr.: MARKK, former name: Museum of Ethnology, Hamburg, German: Museum für Völkerkunde Hamburg), founded in 1879, is today one of the largest museums of ethnology in Europe. The approximately 350,000 objects in the collection are visited every year by about 180,000 visitors. It lies in the Rotherbaum quarter of the Eimsbüttel borough in Hamburg at the Rothenbaumchaussee avenue.

Theater im Zimmer is a theatre in Hamburg, Germany. After the city cut its subsidies, the theatre ceased operations in 1999. The building was sold in 2002 and is now being used for concerts by the neighboring school of music, and for theatre productions. Additionally the villa is used for exclusive corporate and private events, in order to support the cultural events, concerts and theatre.

Rotherbaum (German pronunciation ) is a quarter of Eimsbüttel, a borough of Hamburg, Germany. In 2020 the population was 17,114. In German, "roter Baum" means red tree. The "th", which in general was abolished in the spelling reform of 1900, was preserved in names. Depending on grammatical context, it might also be spelled with n as Rothenbaum.
