Royal Oak Township is a charter township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. An inner-ring suburb of Detroit, Royal Oak Township borders Detroit to the north, roughly 11 miles (17.7 km) north of downtown Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 2,374. It is independent of the city of Royal Oak. The township is the only remaining unincorporated portion of the original 36-square-mile (93.2 km2) Royal Oak survey township, which was organized in 1833. With a present-day area of 0.55 square miles (1.42 km2), Royal Oak Charter Township is the state's smallest charter township by area and the second-smallest overall township in the state after Novi Township.

The Detroit Eight Mile Wall, also referred to as Detroit's Wailing Wall, Berlin Wall or The Birwood Wall, is a one-foot-thick (0.30 m), six-foot-high (1.8 m) separation wall that stretches about 1⁄2 mile (0.80 km) in length. 1 foot (0.30 m) is buried in the ground and the remaining 5 feet (1.5 m) is visible to the community. It was constructed in 1941 to physically separate black and white homeowners on the sole basis of race. The wall no longer serves to racially segregate homeowners and, as of 1971, both sides of the barrier have been predominantly black. The wall begins across the street from the northern boundary of Van Antwerp Park, on Pembroke Avenue between Birwood and Mendota streets. It extends north until just south of 8 Mile Road. An exposed stretch of the wall with no homes to the east runs through Alfonso Wells Memorial Playground, between Chippewa Avenue and Norfolk Street. Community activists and Detroit residents collaborated in 2006 to turn this portion of the wall into a mural. Paintings have depicted, for example, neighborhood children blowing bubbles, a group of a cappella singers, Rosa Parks's boarding the bus signifying her contribution to the Civil Rights Movement, and citizens protesting for equitable housing policy.

Eight Mile-Wyoming area (alternatively known as Eight Mile ) is located nearly 10 miles (16 km) from Paradise Valley on the northern boundary of Detroit and minimally resembled inner-city neighborhoods. Originally settled in the 1920s by thousands of optimistic migrant farmers, the area became a settlement opportunity for Blacks to construct and own their own homes. The area was fought over for development and housing projects for decades and represented an isolated concentration of Blacks in a vast population of whites.

The Louis G. Redstone Residential Historic District consists of three houses located at 19303, 19309 and 19315 Appoline Street in the Greenwich Park neighborhood in northwest Detroit. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.The houses were designed by Redstone for occupancy by himself (19303 Appoline), his brother Solomon Redstone (19309 Appoline), and his business partner, architect Henry J . Abrams (19315 Appoline). The district is significant because the houses exhibit many of the fundamental characteristics of the International Style, as evidenced by the simple geometric form and proportions with lack of ornamentation, the low-sloped hip roofs, and use of corner windows, textured glass block, and curved bays. The design of the houses is distinctive in the use of reclaimed common red brick for the exterior, rather than the white stucco usually associated with the International style. The site also includes a perimeter brick wall that encloses the common rear yards, an outdoor cook stove, and a small wading pool decorated with stylized snail sculptures by artist Samuel Cashwan.

The William E. Higginbotham Elementary School (or simply the Higginbotham School) is a former school located at 8730 Chippewa Avenue in Detroit.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.

Oak Park High School is a public high school located in Oak Park, Michigan an inner suburb of Detroit. The school is part of the Oak Park School district. It serves about 1,130 students in grades 9 to 12 from Oak Park and surrounding communities around Detroit.In 2010, as a part of the Federal School Improvement Framework, the school was identified by the State of Michigan as one of 92 schools with the lowest achieving, according to performance on Michigan standardized tests. Eligible schools were invited to apply for a grant of up to 6 million dollars over three years to support efforts to raise academic achievement. Oak Park High School's grant application was awarded $4.2 million. The school was one of 28 schools that were awarded grant funds.The school colors are red, black, and white. The school mascot is the Oak Park Knights.

CASA (Center for Advanced Studies and the Arts) is a public consortium high school in Oak Park, Michigan offering students from surrounding schools afternoon classes in Advanced Placement (A.P.) classes; art, dance and music courses; and courses that might not have enough demand at a single high school (such as Japanese). Students are bussed to CASA from their "home schools" for two 55-minute class periods per day.The participating schools are Berkley, Clawson, Hazel Park, Ferndale, Lamphere, Madison, Oak Park High Schools, Pontiac High School and International Technology Academy.

Oak Park is a city in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. An inner-ring suburb of Detroit, Oak Park borders Detroit to the north, roughly 14 miles (22.5 km) northwest of downtown Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 29,560.

Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is an open enrollment charter high school in northwest Detroit, Michigan. It was cofounded by Jalen Rose. It is in a partnership with the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM).

The University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy was founded in 1877, and is one of two Jesuit high schools in the city of Detroit, Michigan, the other being Loyola High School. Located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, the school is rooted in the Ignatian tradition. It is an all-boys school with an academy for grades seven and eight. The school's mascot is a tiger cub and its teams are dubbed the Cubs. Its colors are maroon and white.

Oak Park Ice Arena is an indoor arena located in the Detroit suburb of Oak Park, Michigan. It was built in 1971 and was a temporary home for the Detroit Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League in 1996. Current teams that call the rink home include, the Little Ceasers AAA Hockey Club, Brother Rice High school, and Rolston Hockey Academy.

Ferndale High School is a public high school in Ferndale, Michigan. It is under the jurisdiction of the Ferndale Public Schools.
