Dollar is a former community of Markham Township, now the cities of Markham and Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada and was located near the corner of 3rd Line and 15th Avenue (present-day Leslie Street and Highway 7). In 1869, Dollar was granted a post office, which was located on the north-west corner of Line 3 (Leslie Street) and 15th Avenue. In 1871 Dollar also had general store, a blacksmith shop and a church. The Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church was built about 1870 on Lot 10, Concession 3, on the east side of Third Line, just south of the intersection.With the arrival of the railroad through Markham Village and Unionville in the 1870s, the importance of smaller communities like Dollar began to fade. When rural mail delivery was instituted in 1914, Dollar was put on Rural Route #2, Gormley. In 1962 the name "Dollar" was rescinded and the hamlet ceased to exist. On January 1, 1971, the north side of Highway 7 was annexed to the-then Town of Richmond Hill. The last three historical homes were demolished in 1972 to prepare for the construction of the Best Western Parkway Hotel Toronto North. Today the former hamlet of Dollar is in close proximity to Highway 404. The site of the former post office is now the Times Square shopping centre. The City of|Markham is planning for significant future development on the south side of the intersection.

Brown's Corners is an unincorporated community in Markham, Regional Municipality of York in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada and located near the corner of Woodbine Avenue and Highway 7. The community, founded in 1842, was named for local settler Alexander Brown, Sr. (1771–1851) who acquired 100 acres (40 ha) in 1838. Beaver Creek flows through it. The community is mixed into another unincorporated community of Buttonville, Ontario.

Buttonville Municipal Airport or Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport (IATA: YKZ, ICAO: CYKZ) was a medium-sized airport in the neighbourhood of Buttonville in Markham, Ontario, Canada, 29 km (18 mi) north of Downtown Toronto, which closed on November 24, 2023. It was operated by Torontair. Due to its location within Toronto's suburbs, there were several strict noise-reduction procedures for aircraft using the airport, which was open and staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In 2014, Buttonville was Canada's 20th busiest airport by aircraft movements. There was also a weather station located at the airport, which was still operational on the site but closed along with the airport (weather data for Markham is now referencing to Toronto City Centre Airport by Environment Canada). The airport was classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and was serviced by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on a call-out basis from Oshawa Executive Airport during weekdays and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the Toronto Islands during weekends. CBSA officers at this airport handled general aviation aircraft only, with no more than 15 passengers.The airport was slated to cease all operations on November 30, 2023, following a private notice to all tenants at the airport. A NOTAM was issued stating CYKZ was officially closed at 11:00 (EST) on November 24, 2023.

Thornlea Secondary School is a public high school, in the Regional Municipality of York, that opened in 1968 and is located in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, on the northeast corner of Bayview Avenue and Willowbrook Road, just south of Highway 407. The school began in 1968 as an educational experiment. The curriculum was varied and specialized, following a trimester system, and students were encouraged to address their teachers by their first names and focus on independent learning. Around 1980 this model gave way to a more traditional academic environment.

German Mills is a community within the city of Markham in Ontario, Canada. The easternmost community in the historic town of Thornhill, German Mills was named for the early German settlers in the area.

TMS, formerly Toronto Montessori Schools, is one of the oldest Montessori schools in Canada. Founded by Helma Trass in 1961, it still remains the most well-known Montessori school in Ontario. The school moved to Richmond Hill from Toronto in 1964. The school's Bayview Campus (18 months to Grade 6 students) and the Elgin Mills Campus (Grades 7 to 12) are located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. The Head of School is currently Mr. Andrew Cross. The school's first location was in Toronto, which is why, despite being located now in Richmond Hill, it maintained its name 'Toronto Montessori Schools'.Toronto Montessori Institute opened in 1971 at Victoria College, University of Toronto and relocated to Richmond Hill in 1980.The TMS School Bayview Campus is located at 8569 Bayview Avenue and is one of the flagship Montessori schools for students aged 18 months to Grade 6. The TMS School Elgin Mills Campus, which opened its doors in September 2009, is an International Baccalaureate (IB) facility for students in TMS Upper School (Grades 7 to 12) – an IB World School with both the IB Middle Years Programme and the IB Diploma Programme. Also located at the Bayview Campus address is the Toronto Montessori Institute (TMI), founded in 1971 and one of the oldest teacher training Montessori schools in Canada. TMS School remains a flagship Montessori school (18 months to Grade 6) and IB world school (Grades 7 to 12) and has been internationally recognized since 1961. TMS has announced in May 2023 its intention to change its name to "Lauremont Schools" in September of the 2024-2025 school year. The "Laure" part of the new name stands for Baccalaureate, and "mont" for Montessori .

Thornlea station was a station in Ontario, Canada served by CN commuter trains bound for Capreol/Parry Sound. The station was 16 miles north of Toronto Union. The station closed when CN's commuter services through the Bala Subdivision were discontinued. GO Transit's Richmond hill line operates services through the station's site but trains don't call at Thornlea station, instead calling at new stations in Old Cummer and Langstaff.

Shouldice Hospital (formerly Shouldice Hernia Centre) is a private hospital located in Markham, Ontario, Canada, at 7750 Bayview Avenue in the Thornhill district. The hospital specializes in hernia care. Its location is the former estate of George McCullagh, a publisher who created The Globe and Mail newspaper in 1936.

Buttonville is a suburban planned neighbourhood from a former police village in the city of Markham, Ontario, Canada, west of the larger Unionville neighbourhood. the former hamlet and police village named after its founder, John Button. About 30,000 residents live in the area, which is located along the Woodbine Avenue corridor from approximately Highway 7 in the south to Sixteenth Avenue in the north. The Rouge River is in the northeast and Buttonville Municipal Airport and Highway 404 are in the west, with three interchanges. The residential area is located in the eastern, northeastern, and the northern sections, and the industrial area is to the west and the south down to Highway 7. The area is home to many technology companies near the airport, which incidentally is the location from which weather reports are taken for Environment and Climate Change Canada by the Department of National Defence. There is talk about renaming the community to the John Button Community after its founder since there has been confusion between Unionville and Buttonville, which is popularly considered to be part of Unionville.

First Markham Place is an Asian shopping mall located in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the south side of Highway 7, east of Woodbine Avenue and west of Warden Avenue. The mall opened in 1998, one year after the opening of Pacific Mall, the largest Asian shopping mall in the Western world, which is also located in Markham. The mall's opening also coincided with a large influx of Chinese immigrants to Canada.The mall currently has over 170 stores and services including the anchor tenants Oomomo, a Japanese home goods store, and FreshWay Foodmart, an Asian supermarket. There is a foodcourt with 24 vendors in the centre of the mall along with 23 sit-down restaurants outside that are attached to the mall.
