First Markham Place is an Asian shopping mall located in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the south side of Highway 7, east of Woodbine Avenue and west of Warden Avenue. The mall opened in 1998, one year after the opening of Pacific Mall, the largest Asian shopping mall in the Western world, which is also located in Markham. The mall's opening also coincided with a large influx of Chinese immigrants to Canada.The mall currently has over 170 stores and services including the anchor tenants Oomomo, a Japanese home goods store, and FreshWay Foodmart, an Asian supermarket. There is a foodcourt with 24 vendors in the centre of the mall along with 23 sit-down restaurants outside that are attached to the mall.

Peoples Christian Academy (PCA) is a JK–12 private, Christian co-educational school in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1971 as an elementary school.

Buttonville Municipal Airport or Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport (IATA: YKZ, ICAO: CYKZ) was a medium-sized airport in the neighbourhood of Buttonville in Markham, Ontario, Canada, 29 km (18 mi) north of Downtown Toronto, which closed on November 24, 2023. It was operated by Torontair. Due to its location within Toronto's suburbs, there were several strict noise-reduction procedures for aircraft using the airport, which was open and staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In 2014, Buttonville was Canada's 20th busiest airport by aircraft movements. There was also a weather station located at the airport, which was still operational on the site but closed along with the airport (weather data for Markham is now referencing to Toronto City Centre Airport by Environment Canada). The airport was classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and was serviced by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on a call-out basis from Oshawa Executive Airport during weekdays and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the Toronto Islands during weekends. CBSA officers at this airport handled general aviation aircraft only, with no more than 15 passengers.The airport was slated to cease all operations on November 30, 2023, following a private notice to all tenants at the airport. A NOTAM was issued stating CYKZ was officially closed at 11:00 (EST) on November 24, 2023.

Buttonville is a suburban planned neighbourhood from a former police village in the city of Markham, Ontario, Canada, west of the larger Unionville neighbourhood. the former hamlet and police village named after its founder, John Button. About 30,000 residents live in the area, which is located along the Woodbine Avenue corridor from approximately Highway 7 in the south to Sixteenth Avenue in the north. The Rouge River is in the northeast and Buttonville Municipal Airport and Highway 404 are in the west, with three interchanges. The residential area is located in the eastern, northeastern, and the northern sections, and the industrial area is to the west and the south down to Highway 7. The area is home to many technology companies near the airport, which incidentally is the location from which weather reports are taken for Environment and Climate Change Canada by the Department of National Defence. There is talk about renaming the community to the John Button Community after its founder since there has been confusion between Unionville and Buttonville, which is popularly considered to be part of Unionville.

The IBM Toronto Software Lab is the largest software development laboratory in Canada, and IBM's third largest software lab. Established in 1967 with 55 employees, the Toronto Lab (located in Markham) now has 2,500 employees developing some of IBM's middleware. Some of these include Db2, WebSphere Commerce, WebSphere Customer Center, Tivoli Provisioning Manager, IBM i compilers, and Rational Application Developer. The software lab was relocated to Markham from a building at 1150 Eglinton Avenue East in Toronto (subsequently used by Celestica) on September 11, 2001.

CFMS-FM (105.9 FM) is a Canadian radio station, transmitting at 105.9 MHz from Markham, Ontario. The station broadcasts a mixed format, with daytime programming featuring English-language adult contemporary music along with news, weather and traffic information targeted to York Region, and evening programming featuring a multilingual ethnic format in multiple languages, including Cantonese, Filipino, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tamil and Urdu.

St. Agnes Kouying Tsao Catholic Church (Chinese: 天主教聖曹桂英堂), formerly known as Blessed Agnes Kouying Tsao Catholic Mission, was founded in 1992 by Rev. Fr. Nicola Ruggiero, an Italian missionary preaching in Hong Kong. St. Agnes was built in response to the growing religious demands of Chinese Christian immigrants flooding into the Markham area from places like Hong Kong and Mainland China. On October 1, 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized St. Agnes Kouying Tsao and the Parish was then renamed Saint Agnes Kouying Tsao Catholic Church.

The Markham Civic Centre is the city hall of the city of Markham, Ontario. The brick and glass Civic Centre was designed by architect Arthur Erickson with Richard Stevens Architects Limited and was opened on May 25, 1990. The entrances, except for the great hall entrance, are named after communities in Markham (Unionville, Milliken, Thornhill). The building is adjacent to an 11.5-hectare park with a large pond reflecting the south façade.

The Flato Markham Theatre is a public arts complex located at 171 Town Centre Boulevard in the city of Markham, Ontario, Canada. The theatre initially opened in 1985 for local and school based productions. The theatre is best known for its performances in performing arts and drama.The theatre is owned and operated by the City of Markham. The name of the venue changed from Markham Theatre to Flato Markham Theatre when FLATO Developments acquired naming rights in April 2012.

ATI Technologies Inc., commonly called ATI, was a Canadian semiconductor technology corporation based in Markham, Ontario, that specialized in the development of graphics processing units and chipsets. Founded in 1985, the company listed publicly in 1993 and was acquired by AMD in 2006. As a major fabrication-less or fabless semiconductor company, ATI conducted research and development in-house and outsourced the manufacturing and assembly of its products. With the decline and eventual bankruptcy of 3dfx in 2000, ATI and its chief rival Nvidia emerged as the two dominant players in the graphics processors industry, eventually forcing other manufacturers into niche roles. The acquisition of ATI in 2006 was important to AMD's strategic development of its Fusion generation of computer processors, which integrated general processing abilities with graphics processing functions within a chip. Since 2010, AMD's graphics processor products have ceased using the ATI brand name.

Beaver Creek is a river in the municipalities of Markham and Richmond Hill in the Regional Municipality of York, part of the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Great Lakes Basin and is a right tributary of the Rouge River.

Dollar is a former community of Markham Township, now the cities of Markham and Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada and was located near the corner of 3rd Line and 15th Avenue (present-day Leslie Street and Highway 7). In 1869, Dollar was granted a post office, which was located on the north-west corner of Line 3 (Leslie Street) and 15th Avenue. In 1871 Dollar also had general store, a blacksmith shop and a church. The Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church was built about 1870 on Lot 10, Concession 3, on the east side of Third Line, just south of the intersection.With the arrival of the railroad through Markham Village and Unionville in the 1870s, the importance of smaller communities like Dollar began to fade. When rural mail delivery was instituted in 1914, Dollar was put on Rural Route #2, Gormley. In 1962 the name "Dollar" was rescinded and the hamlet ceased to exist. On January 1, 1971, the north side of Highway 7 was annexed to the-then Town of Richmond Hill. The last three historical homes were demolished in 1972 to prepare for the construction of the Best Western Parkway Hotel Toronto North. Today the former hamlet of Dollar is in close proximity to Highway 404. The site of the former post office is now the Times Square shopping centre. The City of|Markham is planning for significant future development on the south side of the intersection.
