Turnberry Towers

Sahara Las Vegas is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It is owned and operated by the Meruelo Group. The hotel has 1,616 rooms, and the casino contains 50,662 square feet (4,706.7 m2). The Sahara anchors the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip, at the corner of Sahara Avenue. It is the site of the northernmost station of the Las Vegas Monorail. The resort initially operated under the Sahara name from 1952 to 2011. Originally, Milton Prell opened the Club Bingo casino on the site in 1947. In 1951, he gathered former business partners to begin work on the Sahara, which was built on the land partially occupied by Club Bingo. Del E. Webb Construction Company built the Sahara, which opened on October 7, 1952, as the sixth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. It featured an African theme. Martin Stern Jr. designed several hotel additions for the Sahara, including a 14-story tower that opened in 1960. The Sahara was sold to Del Webb in 1961, and a 24-story hotel tower, also designed by Stern, was opened in 1963. The Sahara began to decline in the 1960s with the opening of several large resorts nearby. Paul Lowden purchased the Sahara in 1982, and a third hotel tower was added in 1988. Lowden sold the Sahara to Bill Bennett in 1995, and Bennett launched a $100 million renovation of the resort that included a Moroccan theme. Bennett's renovation also added a NASCAR-themed attraction that included a restaurant and a roller coaster known as Speed – The Ride. Sam Nazarian's SBE Entertainment Group, along with Stockbridge Real Estate Group, purchased the Sahara in 2007. The Sahara was closed on May 16, 2011, as it was no longer considered economically viable. In 2013, Nazarian began a complete renovation of the resort before reopening it as the SLS Las Vegas on August 23, 2014, as part of SBE's chain of SLS hotels. SLS Las Vegas featured a chic and modern design, and was targeted at southern California residents. The SLS experienced financial hardships after its opening, and Nazarian sold his stake to Stockbridge in 2015. One of the hotel towers was rebranded the following year as W Las Vegas, managed by Starwood as part of its W Hotels chain. The SLS was sold to Meruelo Group in 2018, and the W Las Vegas became part of the SLS again after the resort ended its relationship with Starwood. The SLS was renamed Sahara Las Vegas on August 29, 2019, as part of an ongoing renovation by Meruelo.

The Crown Las Vegas, previously known as the Las Vegas Tower, was a proposed supertall skyscraper that would have been built on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. If built, the tower would have been 1,887 feet (575 m) tall, making it the tallest building in the United States and 5th tallest in the world. After two major redesigns, the project was cancelled in March 2008.The Crown Las Vegas, as originally planned, would have consisted of a casino, a hotel and an observation deck. The tower would have been built on Las Vegas Boulevard on the former site of the Wet 'n Wild Water Park. The building's architect was Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The cost of the project was estimated to be $5 billion, and its original completion date was set for 2014.

Anderson Field (Rockwell Field) was the first airport to serve Las Vegas, Nevada. The north boundary of the airfield was the present day Sahara Avenue, with the present day Paradise Road serving as the western boundary.

Star Trek: The Experience was a themed attraction, which opened in January 1998 at the Las Vegas Hilton (now Westgate Las Vegas) in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, based on the Star Trek entertainment franchise. The pavilion underwent a major renovation in 2004 to add the Borg Invasion 4-D attraction allowing guests to encounter the Borg. Star Trek: The Experience was operated by entertainment management company Cedar Fair after its June 2006 purchase of Paramount Parks from the CBS Corporation. It closed in September 2008 and was scheduled to reopen in the Neonopolis Mall on May 8, 2009, in time for the premiere of the Star Trek film. The opening was then pushed back to 2010 and then in 2011, it was announced that Cedar Fair had lost the license.

Turnberry Place is a luxury high-rise condominium complex near the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It includes four, 38-story towers, each rising 477 ft (145 m). The complex also includes the 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2) Stirling Club, offering various amenities to residents and other members. The project was proposed in 1998, by Turnberry Associates. Construction of the first tower began in August 1999. At the time, residential high-rises were largely non-existent in the Las Vegas Valley, and the project was considered a risky endeavor. However, upon completion of the first tower in 2001, Turnberry Place helped to inspire a condominium boom in the Las Vegas Valley. The subsequent towers were completed in 2002, 2004, and 2006.

Speed – The Ride is a roller coaster in storage at Akita Plaza. It was located on the Las Vegas Strip at the Sahara Hotel and Casino. It opened to the public on April 28, 2000, and closed on May 1, 2011.

The Ivana Las Vegas was a proposed 73-floor, 923-foot condominium high-rise, named after Ivana Trump. The project was initially announced in August 2004, as The Summit, and was to be constructed on the 2.17-acre site of the closed Holy Cow Casino and Brewery, located on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. Trump became involved with the project in June 2005, when it was renamed. The Ivana Las Vegas was to feature 945 condo units, including a $35 million 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m2) penthouse. The project would have begun construction in summer 2006, with a completion date of December 2008. The property was put up for sale in December 2005, after the project had been cancelled because of rising construction costs. The property later became the site of a two-story Walgreens store.

Holy Cow! Casino and Brewery (formerly Foxy's Firehouse) was a locals casino and microbrewery on South Las Vegas Boulevard, north of the Las Vegas Strip, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The property began in 1955 as Foxy's Deli, which operated until its closure in 1975. A year later, the building was reopened as a casino named Foxy's Firehouse, which later closed in 1988. Tom "Big Dog" Wiesner purchased the building and reopened it as the Holy Cow casino in 1992. Wiesner added a microbrewery the following year, making the Holy Cow the first brewery to open in Las Vegas. Wiesner persuaded the state to change its laws that had prohibited breweries from operating in Las Vegas. The brewery won several awards for its beers, although the property ultimately closed in March 2002, because of a decline in tourism caused by the September 11 attacks. During 2005, the building was used as a sales office for two separate high-rise condominium projects, including the Ivana Las Vegas, which was to replace the Holy Cow before ultimately being cancelled later that year. The Holy Cow was demolished in April 2012, and construction of a two-story Walgreens store began on the property in 2014.

All Net Resort & Arena is a planned entertainment complex in Las Vegas. A project of businessman and former basketball player Jackie Robinson, the complex will encompass a resort hotel, retail and restaurant space, and a multi-purpose arena with a retractable roof. Its location is set on the Las Vegas Strip at the former site of a Wet 'n Wild waterpark, next to the Sahara Las Vegas in Winchester, Nevada. Robinson announced the project in December 2013. Designed by the Cuningham Group, it was initially planned to open in December 2016, at a cost of $1.3 billion. However, the project cost has increased several times, and the start of construction has been delayed repeatedly because of difficulty acquiring construction funds. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in October 2014, but preparation work on the site did not begin until early 2017, and construction has yet to commence. Work on the $4 billion project is expected to begin in mid-2022.

The Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino is a hotel, casino, and timeshare resort in Winchester, Nevada. Located near the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip, it is owned by Westgate Resorts. It opened in 1969 as the International Hotel, and was known for many years as the Las Vegas Hilton, then briefly as the LVH – Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, until taking its current name in 2014. From 1981 to 1990, it was the largest hotel in the world.

Wet 'n Wild was a 27-acre (11 ha) water park located at 2601 South Las Vegas Boulevard on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. The $14 million water park opened on May 18, 1985, as a joint venture between Howard Hughes Development Corporation and Wet 'n Wild. A number of ownership changes occurred beginning in 1998. It was eventually sold to Palace Entertainment in 2002. However, the land itself was leased throughout the water park's history. In 2003, plans were announced to end the lease in favor of redeveloping the site. Wet 'n Wild closed on September 26, 2004, although several proposed projects for the site have failed to materialize, including a skyscraper resort known as Crown Las Vegas. In 2013, former basketball player Jackie Robinson announced plans to build the All Net Resort and Arena on the property, although construction has yet to begin as of 2021.

Bonanza Gift Shop is a landmark located on the Las Vegas Strip between the Sahara Las Vegas and the Stratosphere Las Vegas. It is billed as the World's Largest Gift Shop with over 40,000 square feet (3,700 m2) of shopping space. According to British Airways, the shop "won't let you down when looking for the perfect souvenir." However Fodor's says "Ok, so it may not, in fact, be the world's largest, but it's the city's largest—and for that matter, the city's best—souvenir store."
