Wilburton is a small village of just over 1,000 inhabitants, situated in Cambridgeshire, England. It is 6 miles south west of Ely. While nominally an agricultural village, many of the inhabitants work in Cambridge, Ely or London.

Wilburton railway station was a station in Wilburton, Cambridgeshire on the Ely and St Ives Railway. It was closed to regular passenger trains in 1931, excursion trains in 1958, and completely in 1964 along with the rest of the route. The station featured a single platform, a signal box and a goods shed/granary on a loop.

Grunty Fen is a fen and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wilburton, in the East Cambridgeshire district, in Cambridgeshire, England. It is 4 miles south west of Ely. In 1931 the parish had a population of 95.

North Witchford was a rural district in England from 1894 to 1974. It was named after the ancient hundred of North Witchford. It was formed in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894 based on the North Witchford rural sanitary district. It covered the parishes of Benwick, Doddington, Manea, Welches Dam and Wimblington. From 1894 to 1965 it was part of the administrative county of the Isle of Ely, and then Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and went on to form part of the district of Fenland

Haddenham railway station was a station in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire. It was first opened in 1866 by the Ely, Haddenham and Sutton Railway. It closed to passengers in 1931 through it continued to be served by occasional passenger excursion trains until 1958 and goods trains until full closure in 1964. The station was one of the main goods yards on the line and featured a single platform, signal box, through goods shed and a number of sidings.

Mereham was a potential new town near Ely in East Cambridgeshire, England. Developer Multiplex Stannifer has not received planning permission yet. East Cambridgeshire District Council turned down the initial planning application, though the developers subsequently appealed. The inquiry closed on 8 January 2008. The Planning Inspector, Richard Ogier, made his report in April 2008, and in August 2008 the Secretary of State for Communities, Hazel Blears, announced that permission for the development had been refused.

Wentworth is a small village near Ely in Cambridgeshire, England. It is in the Isle of Ely, adjacent to Grunty Fen, Wentworth lies south of the A142 between Witchford and Sutton, approximately 5 miles west of Ely. The village is centred on St Peter’s Church and a number of listed buildings at the junction of Main Street and Church Road. Residents travel to nearby settlements, including Ely for many goods and services. In 2015, there was no public transport serving the village. However, as of 2017, there is a limited bus service and the nearest railway station serving the village is Ely. In the 1870s, Wentworth, Cambridgeshire was described as: " a parish in Ely district, Cambridge; 4½ miles W by S of Ely r. station. Post town, Ely. Acres, 1,437. Real property, £2,653. Pop., 180. Houses, 40. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely. Value, £450.* Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Ely. The church is partly Norman, chiefly early English, and all good."It is thought the name 'Wentworth' is:"English: habitational name from places in Cambridgeshire and South Yorkshire called 'Wentworth', probably from the Old English byname Wintra meaning 'winter' + Old English worð 'enclosure'. It is, however, also possible that the name referred to a settlement inhabited only in winter."The Domesday entry for Wentworth suggests that the village was then a fairly large one. Later, however, it declined in size.

Chittering is a hamlet about 8 miles (13 km) north of Cambridge in Cambridgeshire, England. For administrative purposes it is part of the parish of Waterbeach. The population of the hamlet was included in the civil parish of Bottisham at the 2011 Census. The village lies on the Ely Road (A10) between Waterbeach and Stretham. It has one pub, Paraiso Restaurant (formerly The Traveller's Rest). Another small settlement, Elford Closes, lies to the north of Chittering.

Stretham is a village and civil parish 4 miles (6 km) south-south-west of Ely in Cambridgeshire, England, about 74 miles (119 km) by road from London. Its main attraction is Stretham Old Engine, a steam-powered pump used to drain the fens. The pump is still in use today although converted to electric power. It has open days throughout the year.

St James' Church, Stretham, is an active Anglican church in the village of Stretham, Cambridgeshire, England. Founded in the 12th century, it was heavily restored by the architect J. P. St Aubyn in 1876. English Heritage, a body responsible for preserving historical sites in the United Kingdom, assessed the church a Grade II* listed building. The turret clock on the east face of the tower was also made in 1876, by JB Joyce & Co of Whitchurch, Shropshire, and still keeps good time. The church has a ring of six bells hung for change ringing. Regular ringing resumed at the church in June 2011 after several years' silence. St James' is one of eight churches in the Ely Team Ministry.
