Abergarwed is a village in the Welsh county borough of Neath Port Talbot, south Wales. It is located in the Vale of Neath, in the electoral ward of Resolven, near the town of Neath.

Melincourt Falls is an 80 feet (24 m) high waterfall on Melin Court Brook, a left-bank tributary of the River Neath / Afon Nedd, located 1-mile (1.6 km) south of Resolven in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, south Wales. It is formed where the brook plunges over a resistant band of 'Lower Pennant Sandstone' in a 13 acres (5.3 ha) nature reserve managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. The falls have been drawing visitors for at least two centuries – they are certainly known to have inspired J. M. W. Turner to paint them in 1794. The falls are considered by some to constitute a part of Waterfall Country though the bulk of these falls are a few miles further northeast at the head of the Vale of Neath.

Crynant (Welsh: Y Creunant) is a village and community in the Dulais Valley in Wales. It lies 7¾ miles north-east from the town of Neath in Neath Port Talbot, situated between the mountains of Mynydd Marchywel to the west, Hirfynydd to the east and Mynydd y Drum to the north. Crynant is a long village, lying on the narrow valley floor and lower slopes of Hirfynydd. Originally there were separate villages (essentially separate farms), such as the region of Treforgan, but all have now merged into a single village. The River Dulais flows through the village.

Resolven (Welsh: Resolfen) is a small village and community in Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. It is located in the Vale of Neath.

Resolven is and electoral ward of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Resolven is made up of the parishes of Resolven and Clyne and Melincourt. Resolven includes some or all of the settlements of Resolven and Clyne in the parliamentary constituency of Neath. The ward consists of steep wooded hills to the northwest and north east with undeveloped moorland to the south. It is cut through the middle by the Neath Valley which is traversed by the A465 'Heads of Valleys' road. Resolven is bounded by the wards of Glynneath to the north; Blaengwrach to the northeast; Glyncorrwg to the east; Cymmer to the southeast; Pelenna to the south; Tonna to the southwest; Aberdulais to the west; and Crynant to the northwest. In the 2017 local council elections, the electorate turnout was %. Tonmawr is a village in Neath Port Talbot county borough, south Wales. It is part of the community of Pelenna and is located around four miles east of Neath.The village is home to a rugby union team (Tonmawr RFC), a community centre, and the Bryn Bettws Lodge.

Pelenna was an electoral ward coterminous with the Pelenna community in Neath Port Talbot county borough, south Wales. The ward consisted of some or all of the following areas: Cefn-Saeson, Tonmawr, Pontrhydyfen in the parliamentary constituency of Neath. Pelenna was bounded by the wards of: Resolven to the north; Cymmer to the east; Bryn and Cwmavon to the south; Briton Ferry East and Cimla to the west; and Tonna to the northwest. The ward comprises open moorland to the north west and dense woodland to the south east with the largest settlements in Tonmawr and Pontrhydyfen. Following a 2020 boundary review by the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales, Pelenna was merged with the neighbouring Cimla ward to become 'Cimla and Pelenna', effective from the 2022 local elections.

Aberdulais is a village and electoral ward in Neath Port Talbot, Wales, lying on the River Neath, in the community of Blaenhonddan. The village grew around the Aberdulais Falls, the site of successive industries and now a hydro-electric station. The National Trust owns and administers the site. The name Aberdulais is from the Welsh for the mouth of the River Dulais.
