Havelange

The Battle of Les Avins took place on 20 May 1635, outside the town of Les Avins, near Huy in modern Belgium, then part of the Bishopric of Liège. It was the first major engagement of the 1635 to 1659 Franco-Spanish War, a connected conflict of the Thirty Years' War. Prior to 1635, France had provided financial and diplomatic support for the Dutch Republic in its war of independence from Spain, but avoided direct involvement. In February 1635, the two countries agreed to divide the Spanish Netherlands, and following a formal declaration of war, a French army of 27,000 entered Liège in May. Intending to link up with the Dutch at Maastricht and attack Leuven, they ran into a Spanish force of around 16,000 outside Les Avins. The French made a series of frontal assaults and eventually over-ran their positions, forcing the Spanish to retreat.

The Château of Modave (French: Château de Modave), also known as the Château des Comtes de Marchin (Château of the Counts of Marchin) is a château near the village of Modave in Liège Province, Wallonia, Belgium.

Modave (French pronunciation: [mɔdav]; Walloon: Modåve) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Modave had a total population of 3,722. The total area is 40.37 km2 which gives a population density of 92 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Modave, Outrelouxhe, Strée, and Vierset-Barse. The hamlet of Limet is also part of Modave municipality. The Château des Comtes de Marchin or Modave Castle is situated near the village of Modave. Rennequin Sualem built here what became the model for the famous Machine de Marly, which he invented.

Marchin (French pronunciation: [maʁʃɛ̃]; Walloon: Mårcin) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Marchin had a total population of 5,114. The total area is 30.00 km2 which gives a population density of 170 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Marchin, and Vyle-et-Tharoul.

Five Nations Golf Club is located in the village of Méan, near Marche-en-Famenne, Belgium. Its name was chosen because of its central position close to Germany, Luxembourg, France, The Netherlands and Belgium. The 18-hole, par 72 course was designed by Gary Player. The "front nine" is a promenade in the forest while the "back nine" looks like a links. Many holes are surrounded by water hazards and by thick roughs that make the course somewhat difficult for the visitor. In addition to the driving range, it has a 3-hole practice course composed of two par-3 and one par-4.

The Arrondissement of Huy (French: Arrondissement de Huy; Dutch: Arrondissement Hoei) is one of the four administrative arrondissements in the Walloon province of Liège, Belgium.

The N4 road in Belgium is a highway that runs from Brussels to Luxembourg. It starts as chaussée de Wavre at Porte de Namur on the Brussels inner ring and runs south east through Wavre and Namur, Marche-en-Famenne, Bastogne, Martelange and Arlon before terminating as route de Luxembourg at the Luxembourg border. On its route is crosses the Meuse and Lessive Rivers and the Belgian Ardennes. Before the development of motorways the N4 was a main artery for traffic going south east from Brussels and it was dotted with many friteries, cafes and petrol stations. From the 1960s to the end of the 1980s, it has been superseded by the completion of the A4 motorway which runs from Delta in Brussels down past Arlon where shortly after it enters Luxembourg where it becomes part of the Luxembourg by-pass system until it reaches the south of the city where it turns south continuing down to Thionville and Metz in France and onwards. By diverting the traffic away from the N4 the motorway has caused the closure of most of these traditional Belgian friteries. Outside of major towns the N4 mostly consists of dual carriageway with the opposing lanes separated by a central reservation or concrete blocks, but certain sections are still without any form of physical separation and have been the scene of many fatal accidents. The N4 still offers a more pleasurable and scenic route to the south of Belgium for the less pressed driver and for bicyclists. The end sections remain busy routes during the rush hour due to the high number of commuters travelling to and from Brussels and Luxembourg from residential communities all over the area. Stretches of the road continue to be renovated. The N4 crosses or borders 29 municipalities in total. 4 of them in the Brussels Capital Region, 2 in Flemish Brabant, 5 in Walloon Brabant, 7 in Namur and 11 in Luxembourg. Clavier (French pronunciation: [klavje] ; Walloon: Clavir) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Clavier had a total population of 4,172. The total area is 79.12 km² which gives a population density of approximately 53 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Bois-et-Borsu, Clavier, Les Avins, Ocquier, Pailhe, and Terwagne. The Castel du Val d'Or is an inn with 15 rooms located within Clavier. It dates back to 1654.
