Holmesfield is a village and civil parish in the English county of Derbyshire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 971. The name "Holmesfield" means "raised pasture-land" and is of Norse and Anglo-Saxon origin. Viking influences are also evident with many road names suffixed by "gate", the old Norse word for "way".

St Swithin's Church is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England in Holmesfield, Derbyshire.

Dronfield Woodhouse is a district of Dronfield, in North East Derbyshire, England. The area has been inhabited since at least the 11th century (Cowley – pronounced Coaley – Farm, to the south) and its main road, Carr Lane, features a 13th-century house, formerly Hall Farm. The 19th-century former primary school on Holmesfield Road is now an elderly care home. Coal mining was an important activity in the village in the 19th and early 20th centuries and the last pit to close was Hurst Hollow in 1947. The current public house, the Miners' Arms, stands opposite the entrance to one of the former mines. Along with mining went Methodism. The chapel, built in 1848, has recently been converted into a dwelling following its closure. In the immediate post-war period the village had its own post office and general store opposite Hall Farm and there were also two other village shops in Carr Lane. The building of a number of council houses in the 1950s linked Dronfield Woodhouse to the hamlet of Stubley, which in its turn had already been joined to Dronfield in the period between the two world wars. In the 1960s a large housing development took place in the adjacent Gosforth Valley turning Dronfield Woodhouse into a quiet dormitory settlement for nearby Sheffield and Chesterfield. The surrounding countryside is still readily accessible, however, and the boundary of the Peak District National Park is less than 2 miles to the west.

Cowley is a small dispersed hamlet in North East Derbyshire, consisting of a few private houses and functioning farms strung out along Cowley Lane, which runs between the village of Holmesfield and the "Hill Top" neighbourhood of the town of Dronfield (where the population is included). Until 2001 it held an annual well dressing in the grounds of Cowley Mission, a small chapel founded in 1888 and still active.

Barlow Woodseats Hall is a Grade II* listed manor house situated at Barlow Woodseats, on the edge of the village of Barlow, in Derbyshire. It remains the only manor house in the Parish of Barlow, and the current house dates from the early 17th century, although there are much earlier origins to before 1269.

Barlow Common is a village in Derbyshire, England, near Barlow and Chesterfield. It includes the hamlet of Crowhole, which contains several buildings surviving from the 18th and 19th centuries. These include a bridge, which still has its commemorative plaque stating that it was built in 1831.

Unthank is a hamlet in the North East Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England. It is sited on a narrow lane on the southern slopes of the Cordwell Valley, at an altitude of about 185 metres (610 ft).On 6 May 1970, a USAF McDonnell-Douglas RF-4C crashed in the nearby Stripes Wood while doing a NATO training exercise. Both crew men ejected and landed at Curbar Edge.

Bradway Tunnel, 1 mile 266 yards (1.853 km) long, was built in 1870 about 1-mile (1.6 km) north of Dronfield, Derbyshire, in South Yorkshire, England.It is at the summit of the Midland Main Line between Chesterfield and Sheffield, on what is known to railwaymen as the "New Road" built by the Midland Railway to serve Sheffield, which was bypassed by the North Midland Railway's "Old Road" due to the gradients involved. During its excavation a number of small heading tunnels were needed to drain some 16,000 gallons of water an hour.At the north end is the triangular junction with the Hope Valley Line and Dore & Totley station. Northwards the line proceeds down a 1 in 110 gradient, through the abandoned Beauchief, Millhouses & Ecclesall and Heeley stations, into Sheffield station. Totley is a suburb on the extreme southwest of the City of Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, England. Lying in the historic county boundaries of Derbyshire, Totley was amalgamated into the city of Sheffield in 1933, and is today part of the Dore and Totley electoral ward in the city, though it remains close to the contemporary county boundary of Derbyshire. Totley had a population of 7,963 in 2011. Totley was shown at the 2011 census as being part of the ward of Dore and Totley. Totley was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Totinglee, the name meaning a forest clearing belonging to Tota (probably the Saxon lord). Totley Hall, built in 1623 and enlarged in the 19th century, was converted to a teacher training college in the 1950s and was latterly part of Sheffield Hallam University. Through the district run the Totley Brook and the Old Hay Brook, which are the two sources of the River Sheaf. Totley also lends its name to Totley Tunnel, the longest underland rail tunnel in the United Kingdom. This takes the Sheffield to Manchester line from Totley underneath the Totley Moor to Grindleford in Derbyshire.

The Old Hay Brook is a small river in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is formed from the Redcar Brook, Blacka Dike and another stream, which rise on moors to the south of Sheffield, and is joined by Needham's Dyke near Totley Grange. At Totley Rise it joins Totley Brook, to become the River Sheaf. Water from the river was used to power mills processing lead, corn and paper from at least the 17th century, which were later used for grinding scythes as the Sheffield metal industry expanded. All the mills were defunct by 1900, although some remnants including weirs and dams are still visible.

Dore and Totley ward—which includes the districts of Bradway , Dore, Totley, and Whirlow—is one of the 28 electoral wards in City of Sheffield, England. It is currently represented by three Liberal Democrat councillors. It is located in the southwestern part of the city and covers an area of 26.3 km2. The population of this ward in 2001 was 16,404 people in 7,037 households. Dore and Totley ward is one of the five wards that make up the Sheffield Hallam Parliamentary constituency. The population of Dore and Totley is 16,740 (2011) with 7,334 Households.

Abbeydale Park is a sports venue in Dore, South Yorkshire, England. It is unusual in having hosted home games for two different county cricket teams.
