The Helix (Falkirk)

The Kelpies are 30-metre-high (98 ft) horse-head sculptures depicting kelpies, located between Falkirk and Grangemouth, but the Kelpies themselves are situated in Grangemouth, standing next to an extension to the Forth and Clyde Canal, and near the River Carron, in The Helix, a parkland project built to connect sixteen communities in the Falkirk Council Area, Scotland. The sculptures were designed by sculptor Andy Scott and were completed in October 2013. The sculptures form a gateway at the eastern entrance to the Forth and Clyde canal, and the canal extension built as part of The Helix land transformation project. For a short time, they were the tallest equine statues in the world until Pegasus and Dragon was completed the following year. The sculptures were opened to the public in April 2014. As part of the project, they have their own visitors‘ centre, and sit beside a newly developed canal turning pool and extension. This canal extension reconnects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the River Forth, and improves navigation between the East and West of Scotland.

Glensburgh is a very small and old hamlet situated on the south bank of the River Carron, 1.1 miles (1.8 km) north-west of Grangemouth. Originally built on farmland in 1240 as houses for farm slaves the now standing cottages date back as far as 1878. Originally called Brockborough the hamlet mainly harvested wheat and corn, until cattle farming became the norm. Nowadays there are no businesses in Glensburgh, they have all closed due to various reasons, the last, the small Glens Goods Convenience Store shut in 1968, though the building still stands.Consisting of only two streets, Glensburgh's population is under 100 however it has always been regarded as one of Grangemouth's more prestigious residencies.William Wallace's mother was born here in 1256, and legend has it that he spent more than one month in the area (in his mother's birth home) whilst preparing for the Battle of Falkirk.Robert Burns, is known to have stayed in the quiet hamlet for some time between 1795 and 1800, until he was chased out by angry locals for getting a bit too familiar with the local landlord's daughter. The Queezy Pig stood with a plaque celebrating Burns' life (and drunken nights) in the tavern for nearly 150 years until it was destroyed during the war.

Skinflats is a small village in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. It is located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-west of Grangemouth, 1.1 miles (1.8 km) east of Carronshore and 2.3 miles (3.7 km) north-east of Falkirk. It lies on the A905 road between Glensburgh and Airth, near to the River Carron and the point where it flows into the Firth of Forth.The United Kingdom 2001 census reported the population as 347, almost unchanged since 1991.The name of the village is sometimes claimed to be of Dutch origin, supposedly bestowed by Dutch engineers working on land reclamation in the 17th century, but there is no evidence that any such reclamation projects took place in the parish of Bothkennar where Skinflats is located and the place-name is readily explained as Scots in origin, meaning "short flat".Skinflats was originally a pit village, but no mining has taken place there for many years.There is an RSPB Nature Reserve at Skinflats which protects saline lagoons and saltmarsh, both types of habitat being increasingly rare in the Forth Estuary. A project was established to increase the extent of these habitats at Skinflats and following years of discussion planning for the project started in 2018 and on Wednesday 3 October 2018 the seawall at the reserve was breached and the project to realign the coast at Skinflats was completed. In 2018 the first recorded successful breeding of pied avocets in Scotland occurred at Skinflats.The bus service F23 used to connect Skinflats with Falkirk and Stenhousemuir but the local authority deemed it too costly and proposed the cancellation of the service in April 2019.

The Falkirk Stadium is an all-seater football stadium in Falkirk, central Scotland, which is the home ground of Scottish League One club Falkirk and Lowland Football League club East Stirlingshire since 2018. The stadium has a capacity of 7,937 and currently consists of three fully completed stands. The stadium was opened in 2004 with the main stand completed. It became the home of Falkirk in the same year after the club ground shared Ochilview Park for the 2003–04 season whilst the stadium was being constructed. The north and south stands were built and opened in 2005 and 2009 respectively. East Stirlingshire have shared the ground since 2018, when they ended their own groundshare at Ochilview to return to Falkirk.

Grangemouth TMD was a traction maintenance depot located in Grangemouth, Scotland. The depot was situated on the Edinburgh to Dunblane Line and was near Falkirk Grahamston station. The depot code is GM.

The historic site of Abbotshaugh Community Woodland, located on the south bank of the River Carron, has witnessed many changes over the past 500 years. The recently planted woodland hopes to recreate a naturally regenerating mature woodland within an area consisting of a mosaic of planted woodland, remnant hedgerows, grassland and saltmarsh. The woodland provides a year-round home for many species including Roe deer, foxes, buzzards and kestrels.

Laurieston is a village in the Falkirk council area in Central Scotland. It is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east Falkirk, 1.6 miles (2.6 km) south-west of Grangemouth and 1.6 miles (2.6 km) west of Polmont. Laurieston is located on the A803 road between Falkirk and Polmont. At the time of the 2001 census, Laurieston had a population of 2,752 residents, down from 3,000 in 1991 and 3,300 in 1971.The course of the Antonine Wall runs through the village with the largest fort on the wall located at Mumrills.

Graeme High School is a non-denominational public secondary school located in Falkirk, Scotland. The school is operated by Falkirk Council on behalf of the Education Department of the Scottish Government. The catchment area, from which the school's pupil population is drawn, comprises Hallglen, Laurieston, St. Margaret's, Victoria and Westquarter primary schools, located in the east of Falkirk itself and in the nearby Lower Braes villages.

Carronshore is a village in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. The village lies in the Forth Valley, 1.7 miles (2.7 km) north of the town of Falkirk and directly to the east of neighbouring village Carron. The village sits north of the River Carron. According to the 2011 census Carronshore has a population of just under 3,000 residents.The village has a Primary school located to the north east of the village. It also has three takeaways, 3 convenience stores, a hair salon and a bookmakers. There are two bars in the village, 'The Vic' and the 'Carronshore Bar' as well as 'The Shore' which is a bar bistro. The village grew as a port village during the 1700s and 1800s due to its close proximity to the river to the east of the village. The area is also very well connected historically to the mining industry and was the site of many pits and collieries until the middle of the 20th century.

Callendar House is a mansion set within the grounds of Callendar Park in Falkirk, central Scotland. During the 19th century, it was redesigned and extended in the style of a French Renaissance château fused with elements of Scottish baronial architecture. However, the core of the building is a 14th-century tower house.During its 600-year history, Callendar House has played host to many prominent historical figures, including Mary, Queen of Scots, Oliver Cromwell, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Queen Victoria. The current building is by far the most substantial historical building in the area, with a 300 ft (91 m) frontage. It is protected as a category A listed building, and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens.

Firs Park was a football stadium in Falkirk, Scotland, which was the home of East Stirlingshire F.C. between 1921 and 2008. It was located on Firs Street, 0.3 miles north-east of the town centre. At the time of closing the ground had a capacity of 1,800 with 200 seated.

Mumrills was the site of the largest Roman fort on the Antonine Wall in Scotland. It is possible that Mumrills could exchange signals with Flavian Gask Ridge forts. Some believe Mumrills may have been the site of Wallace's defeat at the Battle of Falkirk. The farm at Mumrills was also used as an early site for the Falkirk Relief Church.
