Australian Agricultural Company Mine Manager's House is a heritage-listed former colliery official's residence at 195 Denison Street, Hamilton, City of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1849 to 1920. It is also known as A.A. Company House and A. A. Company Mine Manager's Cottage. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 25 August 2017.

Newcastle Olympic Football Club is a semi-professional association football club based in Hamilton a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales. They currently compete in the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW, the second tier of football in Australia. They were known as Hamilton Olympic between 1992 and 2019.

Merewether High School (abbreviated as MHS) is a government-funded co-educational academically selective secondary day school, located in the suburb of Broadmeadow in the city of Newcastle, in the Lower Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It was established in 1977 following the merger of Newcastle Technical High School and Cooks Hill Girls High School. The school is named in honour of Edward Christopher Merewether, a prominent businessman and civil servant in the Colony of New South Wales who later became the Superintendent of the Australian Agricultural Company in Newcastle. The school enrolled approximately 1,070 students in 2020, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom two percent identified as Indigenous Australians and 25 percent were from a language background other than English. The school caters for students from a wide area within the Greater Hunter Region. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education; the principal is Rochelle Dooley.Merewether High students have consistently achieved some of the highest results in the Higher School Certificate, outperforming other schools in the Greater Hunter Region, with many students achieving state rankings in select courses.

Broadmeadow railway station is a major regional interchange located on the Main North Line. The station itself serves the Newcastle suburb of Broadmeadow. The station was first opened on 15 August 1887. The island platform was accessed by a level crossing at the station's northern end until replaced by an underpass on 2 March 1973 opened by Minister for Transport Milton Morris. The station was upgraded to wheelchair accessibility in July 2017.Following the electrification of the line from Wyong in June 1984, passenger trains including the Brisbane Limited, Gold Coast Motorail, Grafton Express, North Coast Daylight Express, North Coast Overnight Express, Northern Mail and Northern Tablelands Express changed from electric to diesel traction at Broadmeadow.

Newcastle Entertainment Centre is a multi-purpose Australian arena within the Newcastle Showgrounds. It was opened in 1992 at a cost of A$12 million. The centre's original tenant was the Newcastle Falcons NBL team who moved to the new venue in 1992 from their previous home at the Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium. After the Falcons folded at the end of the 1999 season its only tenant was the Hunter Jaegers netball team who played in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. The Jaegers played in the centre from 1997 until 2008. From 2003 the NEC served as the home court for another NBL team, the Hunter Pirates (formerly the Canberra Cannons before the team was moved to Singapore to become the Singapore Slingers after the 2005-06 NBL season). The Newcastle Showgrounds themselves also housed the early Newcastle Rebels back in 1908-1909. This rugby league franchise played two seasons in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership. The Entertainment Centre is renowned for being one of Australia's most flexible multi-purpose stadiums, able to accommodate sports events, various performances and expos. The Newcastle Show uses the Centre for various displays and the showbag area. The stadium has also played host to some of Kostya Tszyu's early fights as an Australian-based fighter. The venue has a listed seating capacity of 4,658 The stadium is air-conditioned (installed as a requirement of the NBL when it moved to playing in the summer), equipped with top-grade lights, and also has scoreboards used for basketball and netball games. The venue is owned by Venues NSW and operated by ASM Global.

Hamilton South is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of Newcastle's central business district. Hamilton South was part of the Australian Agricultural Company's coal bearing land in inner Newcastle. When mining ceased around 1910 it was decided to create a prestigious estate with an appeal to the higher end of the residential market. The suburb is characterised by late federation style housing. Examples of the design and architecture of the time still remain. The suburb is serviced by Hamilton South Public School, established in 1933 and contains a number of parks and playing fields, including Learmonth Park, Darling Oval and Henry Park.

The Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium, also known as the Newcastle Basketball Stadium, is an indoor basketball stadium located in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and was the original home of the Newcastle Falcons of the National Basketball League from the origin of the league in 1979 until they moved to the newly built Newcastle Entertainment Centre in 1992. The stadium is currently the home of the Newcastle Basketball Association and can hold approximately 2,200 spectators. On 18 July 1982, the stadium hosted the 1982 NBL Grand Final where the West Adelaide Bearcats defeated the Geelong Supercats 80–74. The staging of an NBL game in Newcastle without the Falcons playing was possible due to the NBL's original policy of awarding the then single game Grand Final to a pre-determined venue regardless of the teams playing. The stadium also hosted the 1982 semi-finals with West Adelaide defeating the Coburg Giants 94–74 and Geelong defeating the Nunawading Spectres 101–59. Both semi-final games were played on 16 July. The Stadium later hosted the 2006 ABA National Finals. On 15 August 2015, the Stadium hosted the LSU Tigers college basketball team in an exhibition game against the Newcastle All-Stars, which LSU won 89–75. A capacity crowd of almost 2,000, the biggest for a game at the Broadmeadow venue in more than 25 years, packed in to see the NBA-bound forward Ben Simmons compete for his new college team. A former Hunters junior, Simmons learnt to play basketball at Broadmeadow when his father, Dave, played and coached in Newcastle for the Falcons and the Hunter Pirates.

Adamstown Rosebud Football Club (founded July 12, 1889) is a semi-professional soccer club based in Adamstown a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales. The club is part of Northern NSW Football and has teams competing in Senior and Youth NPL competitions. The club had played in the National Soccer League between 1984 and 1986 as Newcastle Rosebud United. Adamstown Rosebud is arguably the most famous football club in Newcastle and in 2019, the club entered its 130th year of competition, making the Rosebuds the oldest NPL club in Australia. To mark the occasion, the club wore a special commemorative strip that year, honouring its 130-year history and the Australian representatives the club has produced.

Newcastle Showground is an outdoor recreational area located on Griffiths Road, in the Broadmeadow suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It hosts the Newcastle Show and within the Showground is the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

Hamilton railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the Newcastle line in the inner Newcastle suburb of Hamilton in New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.On 5 January 2015, Hamilton became the interim terminus for NSW TrainLink's Central Coast & Newcastle and Hunter line services following the partial closure of the Newcastle line. It fulfilled this role until Newcastle Interchange opened on 15 October 2017.

St Francis Xavier's College Hamilton is a Catholic secondary school located within the suburb of Hamilton, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Founded in 1985 by the Marist Brothers as a Year 7-10 boys high school, the school is now co-educational and offers a variety of subjects to students in Year Eleven and Twelve. The school's enrolment was about 850 in 1986 and exceeded 1,000 for the first time in 1994. The school's motto, "Christus Lux Mea", is Latin for "Christ My Light". The school primarily accepts enrolments from surrounding junior Catholic high schools in the area, including San Clemente, Mayfield and St Pius X. Until 2018, the college also provided Year 11 and 12 for students enrolled at St Mary's High School. The school has four houses: Champagnat (named after Marcellin Champagnat), Dominic (named after Saint Dominic), MacKillop (named after Mary Mackillop) and McAuley (named after Catherine McAuley).
