Thorpe Bay railway station

Thorpe Bay is an area of the city of Southend-on-Sea, in the City of Southend-on-Sea, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. located on the Thames Estuary. Thorpe Bay is situated within the Thorpe ward of Southend-on-Sea. It is around 4 miles to the east of Southend. Originally the area was called Thorpe, but it was renamed Thorpe Bay, after the railway station. The station had been given the name to indicate that it was a seaside settlement. The majority of Thorpe Bay consists of residential properties, mainly built in the 1920s, arranged in a grid pattern.

Thorpe Hall School is a non-selective, coeducational independent school in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. The school is a member of the Independent Schools Council. The school admits students from age 2–16. The curriculum broadly follows the National Curriculum for England. The school also offers means tested bursaries.

Southchurch High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. It opened on 1 September 2016, replacing the former Futures Community College.Futures Community College was created in 2006 as a trustee school by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Prospects College and the UK government to try and lift Thorpe Bay High School out of special measures. A new building was opened in 2010. Prospects moved their Southend campus to share the new building. As of November 2013 the head teacher was Stuart Reynolds who replaced Stephen Capper who had been appointed for one year to prevent the school being placed in special measures by Ofsted following poor examination results in 2012. However the school returned to special measures in 2014 before coming out in 2016. As part of its rebuilding programme Futures closed its Sixth form in 2015, with PROCAT (the new name for Prospects College) moving out in 2016 to make room for further expansion of the school. In September 2016 the school renamed itself as Southchurch High School and is in the process of becoming part of the Partnership Learning Academy trust.

Gunners Park and Shoebury Ranges is a 25 hectare nature reserve in Shoeburyness in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust (EWT). Part of Gunners Park is Shoeburyness Old Ranges Local Nature Reserve (called Shoebury Ranges by the EWT), which is itself part of the Foulness Site of Special Scientific Interest. At the eastern end of Gunners Park is the Danish Camp, a Scheduled Monument.Shoeburyness Old Ranges has flora unique in the county, on a habitat of unimproved grassland over ancient sand dunes. There are areas of grasses and sedges, while rushes are found in damp hollows. Rabbits graze the grassland, and close cropped areas have many lichens.Gunners Park, which is named from its former military use, has over twelve habitats, including coastal grassland and ancient sand dunes. Rare insects include sandwich click beetles and cuckoo wasps, while there are unusual plants such as bulbous meadow-grass. There is a wide range of migrating birds. Danish Camp is an Iron Age fortified settlement which got its name because it was wrongly believed to have been built by the Danish Viking leader Haesten.There is access from Ness Road, Mess Road, Magazine Road and Warrior Square Road. Shoeburyness Old Ranges is closed to the public. Parts of the site were formerly part of MoD Shoeburyness.

Southend East railway station is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the Southchurch area to the east of Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It is 36 miles 49 chains (58.9 km) down the main line from London Fenchurch Street via Basildon and it is situated between Southend Central to the west and Thorpe Bay to the east. Its three-letter station code is SOE. It was opened in 1932. There is no step-free access available on the Shoeburyness bound platform. The station and all trains serving it are currently operated by c2c.
