Whipple–Jenckes House

The Tower-Flagg Barn Complex is (or was) a historic site in Cumberland, Rhode Island at 100 Abbott Run Valley Road. Its most significant feature was a barn complex whose oldest section was an English barn that was probably constructed in the second half of the 18th century. If so, it would have been built by Benjamin Tower, whose family owned the land from the late 17th century into the early 19th century. In 1895 the property was acquired by Charles Flagg, notable in Rhode Island as influential in the founding of what is now the University of Rhode Island.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. C. 2013, the property had been cleared of old buildings and a new residential subdivision was built on the land.

Nine Men's Misery is a site in current day Cumberland, Rhode Island, where nine colonists were tortured by Narragansett warriors during King Philip's War. A stone memorial was constructed in 1676 and is believed to be the oldest war monument in the United States.

Abbott Run is a de facto river in the U.S. state of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It flows approximately 10 miles (16 km).

Arnold Mills Historic District is a historic district encompassing a modest 19th-century mill village in eastern Cumberland, Rhode Island. The district lies along the Nate Whipple Highway (Rhode Island Route 120) and Sneech Pond Road, south of the Arnold Mills Reservoir. Sneech Pond Road was formerly the major east-west highway through the area prior to the construction of the Nate Whipple Highway in the 1960s. The Arnold Mills village is in part bisected by Abbott Run, the stream which serves as the outlet of the reservoir; Sneech Pond Road crosses the run on an early 20th-century steel Pratt pony truss, now closed to vehicular traffic. The houses along this road generally date from the late 18th to mid-19th century, and mainly reflect Federal and Greek Revival styling. The most prominent structure in the district is the Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, located at the western end of the district on Nate Whipple Highway; it was built 1825-27 and remodeled in 1846.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Millers River is a river in the eastern section of the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It flows approximately 3 km (2 mi). There are no dams along the river's length.

Diamond Hill Reservoir (also known as the Pawtucket Upper Reservoir) is a reservoir in Cumberland, Providence County, Rhode Island near Diamond Hill. The earthen Diamond Hill Reservoir Dam was constructed in 1971 with a height of 80 feet (24 m), and a length of 2,000 feet (610 m) at its crest. It impounds the Abbott Run waterway for municipal drinking water. Both dam and reservoir are owned and operated by the city of Pawtucket's Water Supply Board. The reservoir it creates has a normal surface area of 390 acres (160 ha), a maximum capacity of 15,680 acre-feet (19.34 million cubic metres), and a normal storage of 11,000 acre⋅ft (14 million m3). Immediately adjacent to the south is the Arnold Mills Reservoir.

Providence Zen Center (PZC) is the Head Temple of the Americas for the Kwan Um School of Zen (KUSZ) and the first Zen center established by Seungsahn in the United States in October 1972. The PZC offers residential training where students and teachers live together under one roof, which was one of the hallmarks of Seung Sahn's philosophy concerning Zen practice in his organization. Practice at the center, and at Diamond Hill Zen Monastery, which shares the PZC property, includes sitting meditation, prostrations, and chanting. The Providence Zen Center was originally located in Providence, Rhode Island, but in 1979 the center relocated to its current 50-acre site in Cumberland. One of the center's centerpiece landmarks is the Peace Pagoda, a towering 65-foot (20 m) high pagoda located at the front of the center grounds. PZC also serves as the U.S. headquarters for the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

Cumberland is the northeasternmost town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States, first settled in 1635 and incorporated in 1746. The population was 36,405 at the 2020 census, making it the seventh-largest municipality and the largest town in the state.

The John Cole Farm (also known as Intervale Farm) is an historic colonial farm on Reservoir Road in the far northeast of Cumberland, Rhode Island. The main farmhouse, a 1+1⁄2-story Cape style wood-frame structure, was built c. 1770 by John Cole not long after his acquisition of the property. The property, including a half-dozen outbuildings, has had only minimal intrusion of modern 20th-century amenities, and is a well-kept example of vernacular rural architecture of the late 18th century.The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Berkeley Mill Village is a historic district encompassing the mill village of Berkeley in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The village is roughly bounded by Martin Street and Mendon Road on the north and east, railroad tracks to the west, and St. Joseph Cemetery to the south. The village, including a mill complex and mill employee housing, was built in 1872 by the Lonsdale Company. Most of the residential structures built are two-story brick duplexes, although Mendon Street is lined with a number of fine Queen Anne Victorian houses. A c. 1892 Stick-style church building (now used for non-religious purposes), stands on Mendon Street at the northern end of the district.In 1922, it's textile mills were temporarily shutdown by the New England Textile Strike over an attempted wage cut and hours increase.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

St. Joseph Church is parish of the Roman Catholic Church in Cumberland, Rhode Island within the Diocese of Providence. It is known for its historic campus at 1303 Mendon Road, which includes a Gothic Revival style church along with two late 19th-century, clapboard-sheathed, wood-frame structures on the east side of Mendon Road. The church and its accompanying buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as St. Joseph's Church Complex.

The Ashton Historic District is a historic district in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The district consists of a mill and an adjacent mill village that was built for the workers of the mill. It lies between Mendon Road, Scott Road, Angell Road, Store Hill Road, Front Street and Middle Street. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 1, 1984. In 1867, in a program of further expansion, the Lonsdale Company erected a large, three and-one-half-story, mansard-roof brick mill at Ashton on the east side of the Blackstone River north of Lonsdale. It was later enlarged to four full stories with a flat roof.A compact group of associated brick row houses and other buildings, including a handsome mansard-roofed office, also were built. This mill played a major role in 19th-century textile technology and was the site of the first large-scale test of the high-speed Sawyer spindle, one of the earliest of its type developed in the United States. The mill houses here are noteworthy for their simple form and dense arrangement. In 1922, it's textile mills were temporarily shutdown by the New England Textile Strike over an attempted wage cut and hours increase.The village is tucked into a narrow, low flood plain site at the bottom of a bluff carrying Mendon Road (Rhode Island Route 122) in this section.
