Barlborough Common

The A616 is a road that links Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, to the M1 motorway at Junction 30, then reappears at Junction 35A and goes on to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The road originally ran continuously from Newark to Huddersfield, via Sheffield city centre. The section of route between the M1 Junction 30 and Sheffield was re-numbered A6135, and the route north-west of Sheffield largely renumbered the A6102.

Heritage High School (formerly known as Heritage Community School) is a co-educational secondary school located in Clowne in the English county of Derbyshire. It held a Mathematics and Computing Specialist college status up until 2015. It is also the fastest growing 11-16 school in Derbyshire. There are currently just over 800 pupils on roll. The school holds the Careers Mark, a Sport England Award, The Princess Diana Memorial Award and Derbyshire ABC Award. The school was in a consortium with The Bolsover School, Shirebrook Academy and Springwell Community College that formed "Aspire Sixth Form", a sixth form provision that operated across all the school sites from September 2014. However, due to lack to students willing to enrol and poor performance, ASPIRE Sixth Form ceased to exist for the 2016-17 A-Level students.Previously a community school administered by Derbyshire County Council, in April 2017 Heritage High School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by The Two Counties Trust. On 15 July 2019, the school announced it had suffered a ransomware cyber attack, which resulted in wiping of files, electronic data, and the inability to communicate including the use of telephones. The school closed early, resulting in an early end of term.

Barlborough is a village and civil parish in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 3,018, increasing to 3,261 at the 2011 Census. The village is near junction 30 of the M1 motorway and is about 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Bolsover. Barlborough has two primary schools, one public and one private.

Stanfree is a community/village in Bolsover (district), county of Derbyshire, consisting of a couple of rows of terraced cottages, lying halfway between Shuttlewood and Clowne. It is mentioned in Bagshaw's directory of 1846 and states "a hamlet about 2 and a quarter miles north from Bolsover market place". It is thought by some to draw its name from the fact that, though in a stoney neighbourhood, it is free from surface stone, or it may have a Roman or British origin. Iron seems to have been smelted here in primitive ages, and coal was worked some 500 years ago. Remains of the workings of both can be found. The four roads meeting here are said by tradition to have once been the main roads of England and Stanfree to have been a special meeting place. The local colliery that was a drift mine was closed in 1974. Only the Oxcroft Miners' Welfare, that was destroyed by fire in the late 1980s and rebuilt on the site of the cricket pavilion, is the lasting reminder that a colliery once stood there. The Appletree Inn on the corner of Appletree Road and Clowne Road closed in 2008.

Clowne is a village and civil parish in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England. The population was 7,590 at the 2011 Census. It lies 9 miles (14 km) north east of Chesterfield and 7 miles (11 km) south west of Worksop and is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Clune. The name is derived from the Celtic Clun for a river.

Oxcroft is a small hamlet in Bolsover (district), Derbyshire in England, located to the north of Bolsover, about 1–2 miles along the Clowne-New Houghton Road. It consists of a few farms and cottages. Etymology: Probably simply meaning an Ox cottage/farm. Ox = Ox, Croft = Farm/Cottage.

Harlesthorpe is a village in Bolsover (district), in the county of Derbyshire. The population of the village is listed under the civil parish of Clowne. It is a peculiar village, located literally just north of Clowne, but almost a part of Clowne. It is separated by the Harlesthorpe Dam, a large Pond, the village is accessible, from the Rotherham Road, A618. Harlesthorpe Dam was, or so the story used to go, used to supply a head of water to a nearby mill. The mill was said to produce cloth for making sails. This cloth was known as Bump and the name Bump Mill Pond was widely used in the locality. Harlesthorpe Dam has two bodies of waters to choose from and fishing is available. Both waters offer a variety of species and are well suited to the pleasure, match and specimen angler. The smaller of the two is a mature, 2-acre (8,100 m2) lake surrounded by trees. In the centre there is a heavily weeded island. Chub to 4 lb (1.8 kg) are the main quarry and there's every chance to crack a chub Mission.Across the road, the 10-acre (40,000 m2) main lake offers the chance of a large carp to around 24 lb (11 kg). There is a good head of upper doubles. Pellet and paste are amongst the top catching baits and boilies will also catch. Tench are also present and early morning and evening fishing can be very productive times for this species. Depths vary from four to 12 feet (3.7 m) and there are plenty of features and marginal weed beds to fish to. Other species include, bream, perch, roach and rudd.

Barlborough Hall School became an independent Catholic day school, in the Jesuit tradition, around 1939. The school is now the Preparatory school for Mount St Mary's College at Spinkhill, 2.2 miles down the road. The present head teacher is Mrs Karen Keeton.

St. John the Baptist's Church, Clowne, is a Grade II* listed Church of England parish church situated in Clowne, a village and civil parish in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England. The church, along with the medieval cross, is the oldest structure in the village.
