Alimos

Halimus or Halimous (Ancient Greek: Ἁλιμοῦς, Latin: Halmius) was a deme of ancient Athens, said to have been so called from τὰ ἅλιμα, sea-weeds, was situated on the coast between Phalerum and Aexone, at the distance of 35 stadia from the city of Athens. It had temples of Demeter and Core, and of Heracles. Halimus was the deme of Thucydides the historian. The site of Halimus is located north of modern Ag. Kosmas.

The Hellinikon Olympic Hockey Centre was the site of the field hockey events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Located in the Hellinikon Olympic Complex, the facility consists of two hockey fields. The larger stadium seats 7,200 fans – though only 5,200 seats were made publicly available during the Games, and the smaller stadium seats 2,100 spectators – though only 1,200 seats were made publicly available during the Games. The facility was completed on February 29, 2004, and officially opened on August 11, 2004, shortly before the beginning of the Games. During the 2004 Summer Paralympics, the Olympic Hockey Centre was the venue for Football 5-a-side and Football 7-a-side competitions. The hockey centre has since fallen into disuse and disrepair. No hockey has been played at the centre since the end of the 2004 Olympic Games.

Trachones Field (Greek: Γήπεδο Τραχώνων, Gipedo Trachonon), known locally as Galaxias (Greek: Γαλαξίας), is a 457-seat track and field stadium in Trachones, Alimos, Athens, Greece. It is the seat of the local soccer team A.O.T. Alimos F.C.

The 1973 Hellinikon International Airport attack was an attack at the Hellinikon International Airport at Athens, Greece. The two attackers were members of the Palestinian militant organization Black September. The militants used sub-machine guns and grenades against the passengers waiting in the passenger lounge. The attackers took hostages before they finally surrendered to the Greek police. It is believed that the gunmen wanted to hijack a plane, but they decided to attack when they were about to be searched by a Greek security inspector before boarding.

Cape Colias (Ancient Greek: Κωλιὰς ἄκρα, Kōliàs ákra) was a promontory on the coast of Attica in ancient Greece, located about 20 stadia from Phaleron. The cape is most commonly identified with the modern promontory of Agios Kosmas. The site was historically significant as the location where the wreckage of the Persian fleet washed ashore after the Battle of Salamis, and it was home to a notable sanctuary of Coliad Aphrodite and Genetyllides. The location was also known for high-quality clay used for pottery.

The Hellinikon Fencing Hall was a multi-purpose indoor sporting arena that was located adjacent to the Hellinikon Olympic Arena, in Hellinikon, Athens, Greece. The venue was part of the Hellinikon Events Hall of the Hellinikon Olympic Complex. It was demolished in 2022.

Olympic Airways Flight 411 was a flight from Ellinikon International Airport bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport and operated by Olympic Airways using a Boeing 747-200. On August 9, 1978, the flight came close to crashing in downtown Athens. Despite maneuvers near the edge of the flight envelope, none of the 418 passengers and crew suffered serious injury. Boeing reported that there was an "engine shut down" while taking off. Based upon review of the flight data recorder, Boeing concluded that nine seconds after takeoff, the flight crew had turned off the water injection pumps in response to warnings, which reduced thrust. Turning off the pumps when the plane was in takeoff climb limited the plane's ability to climb. Boeing states that thrust was increased manually after 325 seconds and then the plane climbed normally. Captain Sifis Migadis and Captain Kostas Fikardos managed to keep the aircraft in the air at an extremely low altitude below minimal speed. All Boeing simulations of the flight resulted in crashes.

Hellinikon Stadium is a stadium located at the Hellinikon Olympic Complex in Hellinikon, Athens, located approximately 8 kilometres south of the center of Athens, near Glyfada on the Aegean Sea coast. Ethnikos Piraeus F.C. currently plays its home matches there. The complex was built on the site of the former Hellinikon International Airport for the staging of the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Paralympics and consisted of the following venues: Hellinikon Indoor Arena (Basketball and Team handball); Hellinikon Fencing Hall; Olympic Hockey Stadium (Field hockey); Helliniko Baseball Centre; Hellinikon Olympic Softball Stadium; and Hellinikon Slalom Centre (Whitewater slalom).

The Battle of Phaleron, or Battle of Analatos, took place on April 24 (6 May Gregorian ), 1827. The Greek rebel forces were being besieged inside the Acropolis of Athens by Ottoman forces under the command of Mehmed Reshid Pasha. Greek forces outside the city were desperately trying to break the siege.

Agios Dimitrios (Greek: Άγιος Δημήτριος meaning Saint Dimitrios, before 1928: Μπραχάμι - Brahami) is a town in Attica, Greece, and a suburb in the southern part of the Athens agglomeration.

South Athens (Greek: Νότιος Τομέας Αθηνών) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Attica. The regional unit covers the south-central part of the Athens agglomeration.

Palaio Faliro (Greek: Παλαιό Φάληρο, pronounced [paleˈo ˈfaliro] (listen); Katharevousa: Palaion Faliron, Παλαιόν Φάληρον, meaning "Old Phalerum") is a town on the Saronic Gulf coast and a municipality in the southern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. At the 2011 census it had 64,021 inhabitants.
