The City of Hobsons Bay is a local government area in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It comprises the south-western suburbs between 6 and 20 km from the Melbourne city centre. It was founded on 22 June 1994 during the amalgamation of local councils by the state government from the City of Williamstown and the City of Altona, as well as the suburb of South Kingsville from the City of Footscray. It took its name from Hobsons Bay, named after Captain William Hobson. The city has an area of 64 square kilometres, and in June 2018 had a population of 96,470.

Altona railway station is located on the Werribee line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-western Melbourne suburb of Altona, and it opened on 1 December 1917 as Altona Beach. It was renamed Altona on 3 October 1938.

Seaholme railway station is located on the Werribee line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of Seaholme, and opened on 26 January 1920.

Seaholme is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12 km (7.5 mi) south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Hobsons Bay local government area. Seaholme recorded a population of 2,067 at the 2021 census.The suburb is a bayside enclave within the larger suburb of Altona, bounded in the west by Millers Road and in the north by the Altona Coastal Park. Seaholme Post Office opened on 2 July 1951 and closed in 1971.

Paisley railway station was located on the Werribee line of the Melbourne suburban rail system in Australia. It was located between Newport and Galvin stations, adjacent to the Millers Road level crossing (later replaced by a road overpass). Paisley was opened on 14 October 1929. Although it was a public platform, it played an important role in servicing refineries in the area. When the line between Altona Junction and Laverton was duplicated in 1967, the new track ran behind the existing station, converting it into an island platform. A subway was provided to allow passengers to get to the platform from the adjacent Ross Road. In 1985, a new extension joining Westona and Laverton stations was opened. The Werribee line had been electrified two years earlier, but after the construction of the Westona - Laverton link, trains on the Werribee line were diverted via Altona and Westona to try to make a more viable route, because both Paisley and the nearby station of Galvin were little used. As a result, Paisley, along with Galvin, were bypassed and closed. The last trains stopped at the station on 14 April 1985. The pedestrian subway was filled in post-closure, but the island platform still exists adjacent to the Millers Road overpass in Altona, and is visible from passing suburban Werribee services, most of which ceased running on weekdays on the loop through Altona in May 2011. The former car park is now used as a bus park and ride terminal, similar to the one at Doncaster.

The Altona Refinery is an oil refinery in Altona North, Victoria, Australia, operated by ExxonMobil. The refinery is located next to Kororoit Creek which is not navigable. Ships unload at a pier on Point Gellibrand in nearby Williamstown. Its output was 14.5 million litres of refined oil products each day. Employing 350 staff (in 2019), it was the smallest refinery in Australia, but also one of the oldest. The facility stopped refining fuel in 2020, and switched to a fuel importing and distribution network.

Williamstown Racecourse is a demolished station on the former Altona railway line, now part of the Werribee railway line in Melbourne, Australia. It was located in the suburb of Altona, immediately south of the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing and north of Kororoit Creek.

Mobiltown is a former station on the Altona railway line, which now forms part of the Werribee railway line in Melbourne, Australia. It was located immediately north of the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing in the suburb of Altona North. The station opened in 1953 as the Standard Oil Platform, next to the oil refinery operated by the Vacuum Oil Company, and was used by refinery workers. Shortly after the company changed its name to Mobil Australia in 1954, the station's name was altered to reflect that. Mobiltown was made a public platform in 1958, and closed on 29 January 1985 because of low patronage. No trace of the platform remains and the rail overpass, which eliminated the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing in 2018, now overshadows the site of the station. Australian singer-songwriter, Broderick Smith sang about the "Last Train From Mobiltown" on his group's 1981 album Broderick Smith's Big Combo.

Altona Beach is a beach located in Altona, Victoria, Australia. A long pier is located towards the middle of the beach. From late November through to around Easter each year, volunteers from the Altona Lifesaving Club patrol the beach on the eastern side of the pier.

Altona Coastal Park, a 70 hectares intertidal and salt marsh area located 11 km from Melbourne CBD in the western suburb of Altona, is an important recreational and nature conservation area, providing habitats for a large biodiversity of flora and fauna. It is part of the Cheetham and Altona Important Bird Area.
