Stonehouse is a rural village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is on Avon Water in an area of natural beauty and historical interest, near to the Clyde Valley. It is on the A71 trunk road between Edinburgh and Kilmarnock, near the towns of Hamilton, Larkhall and Strathaven. The population of Stonehouse is around 7,500.

Formed in 1878 the Jags are Scotland's oldest continuous Junior Football Club and currently compete in the West of Scotland League Conference C. They play in red and white stripes and their home ground since 1881 is Gasworks Park.

Glassford (listen ; locally known as The Glesart listen ) is a small village located 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Hamilton, and 3 kilometres (2 mi) north-east of Strathaven, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It has a population of roughly 500–600 people. Features include the 19th-century Parish Church, and the remains of the 17th-century church, both of which are category B listed buildings. The Avon Water offers fishing and walks. Local businesses include the Glassford Inn and the Fortune Dragon Chinese restaurant. the village is also famous for the annual Beer and gin Festival held on the last saturday in March, The local No.13 or No 256 bus service comes through the village once every hour.

Boghead is a small village in South Lanarkshire, west central Scotland. It is about 23 miles (37 km) southeast of Glasgow and sits nearby to the River Nethan and Avon Water. Boghead is a residential area, with working residents commuting to nearby villages and large towns of Lesmahagow, Strathaven and Lanark. It is composed of houses built along Strathaven Road (the B7086) and Lesmahagow Road. It originated in the early 19th century around the old Blackwood Estate, as the original inhabitants used to work there.

The A71 is a major road in Scotland linking Edinburgh with Lanarkshire and Ayrshire. It adjoins the Livingston Bypass A899. It runs south west from Edinburgh for approximately 70 miles, through Saughton, Wilkieston and south of Livingston, Whitburn and Wishaw, then by way of Overtown, Garrion Bridge, Stonehouse, Strathaven, Darvel, Newmilns, Galston, Hurlford and Kilmarnock to Irvine on the North Ayrshire coast. Formerly a trunk route from the east to the west coast of Scotland it has since been downgraded to a mix of primary and secondary routes. From Edinburgh to Darvel, it is now a secondary route, in a poor state of repair in some places. But, from Darvel to Irvine, it has retained its primary route status.
