Barrhorn

The Schöllijoch (el. 3343 m.) is a high mountain pass in the Pennine Alps, connecting Gruben/Meiden and St. Niklaus (Mattertal) in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The path has been recently equipped and is accessible to experienced hikers. The path to traverse the Schöllijoch uses fixed ladders, ropes, and rungs. The pass lies between the Barrhorn on the north and the Brunegghorn on the south.

The Stellihorn is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located west of St. Niklaus in the canton of Valais. It lies north of the Barrhorn, on the range between the Turtmanntal and the Mattertal. The Stellihorn has two summits: the Inners Stellihorn (3,410 m) and the Üssers Stellihorn (3,405 m).

The Brunegg Glacier (German: Brunegggletscher) is a 4 km (2.5 mi) long glacier (2005) situated in the Pennine Alps in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. In 1973 it had an area of 6.68 km2 (2.58 sq mi). The glacier is located north of Bishorn and Weisshorn.

The Brunegghorn is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, overlooking the Mattertal in the canton of Valais. It is part of the Weisshorn group. On the west side of the mountain flows the Brunegg Glacier.

The Pointe Burnaby is a minor summit north-east of Bishorn. Because of its small prominence it was included in the enlarged list of alpine four-thousanders.

The Bishorn (4,153 m) is a mountain in the Pennine Alps in Switzerland, just north of the Weisshorn. The mountain has two distinct summits, separated by a 600-metre easy-angled snow ridge. The west and higher summit (4,153 m), first ascent by G. S. Barnes and R. Chessyre-Walker with guides Joseph Imboden and J. M. Chanton on 18 August 1884. The east summit (Pointe Burnaby, 4,134 m), first ascent by Elizabeth Burnaby with guides Joseph Imboden and Peter Sarbach on 6 May 1884.

The Turtmann Glacier (German: Turtmanngletscher) is a 5 km long glacier (2005) situated in the Pennine Alps in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. In 1973 it had an area of 5.91 km2. The glacier is located north of Bishorn and Weisshorn. On an altitude of 3256m, at the western border of the glacier, lies the Tracuit Hut (French: Cabane de Tracuit). This hut, run by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), is a starting point for the ascent to the Bishorn, the Weisshorn and Les Diablons.

The Grand Gendarme is a minor summit on the Weisshorn north ridge in the Pennine Alps. Because of its prominence it was included in the enlarged list of alpine four-thousanders.

Tête de Milon (3,693 m) is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located east of Zinal in the canton of Valais. It belongs to the massif of the Weisshorn and lies west of the Turtmann Glacier. The Cabane de Tracuit, a mountain hut owned by the Swiss Alpine Club, is located north of the mountain at a height of 3,256 metres.

The Weisshorn (German, lit. white peak/mountain) is a major peak of Switzerland and the Alps, culminating at 4,506 metres (14,783 feet) above sea level. It is part of the Pennine Alps and is located between the valleys of Anniviers and Zermatt in the canton of Valais. In the latter valley, the Weisshorn is one of the many 4000ers surrounding Zermatt, with Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn. The Weisshorn was first climbed in 1861 from Randa by the Irish physicist John Tyndall, accompanied by the guides J.J. Bennen and Ulrich Wenger. Nowadays, the Weisshorn Hut is used on the normal route. The Weisshorn is considered by many mountaineers to be the most beautiful mountain in the Alps and Switzerland for its pyramidal shape and pure white slopes.In April and May 1991, two consecutive rockslides took place from a cliff above the town of Randa on the east side of the massif, below the Bis Glacier.

The Tracuit Hut (French: Cabane de Tracuit) is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, located above Zinal in the canton of Valais. The hut lies at an elevation of 3,256 metres (10,682 ft) above sea level, at the Tracuit Pass, between Les Diablons and the Tête de Milon in the Pennine Alps. The Tracuit Hut is the starting point for the ascents of Bishorn, Weisshorn and Les Diablons. The hut, lying on a ridge, is accessible to hikers by a trail from the west slopes. The Turtmann Glacier lies on the east side.

Gruben/Meiden (1,818 m) is a village in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Valais. It is situated in the upper Turtmanntal and is traversed by the Turtmanna river. It belongs to the municipality of Oberems and is the main settlement in the valley south of the town of Oberems. The village is inhabited in summer only.
