Beniardà

Benifato (Valencian: [beniˈfato]; Spanish: [beniˈfato]) is a Valencian town and municipality located in the comarca of Marina Baixa, in the province of Alicante, Spain. Benifato has an area of 11.9 km² and, according to the 2002 census, a total population of 164 inhabitants. The economy of Benifato is exclusively based on agriculture (olives, almonds and medlars). The most important monument in the town is the Catholic church of Sant Miquel (Saint Michael).

El Castell de Guadalest (Valencian pronunciation: [el kasˈteʎ de ɣwaðaˈlest]) or simply Guadalest (Spanish pronunciation: [ɡwaðaˈlest]), is a Valencian town and municipality located in a mountainous area of the comarca of Marina Baixa, in the province of Alicante, Spain. Guadalest has an area of 16 km² and, according to the 2002 census, a total population of 189 inhabitants.

Aitana (Valencian: [ajˈtana], Spanish: [ajˈtana]) is a mountain massif that is part of Prebaetic System in the eastern end of the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, the mountainous area is located in the Marina Baixa, Alcoià and Comtat comarcas in the northern part of Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain. Its peak at 1,558 metres above sea level is the highest point of the province.

Alicante is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) (Valencian: Denominació d'Origen) for wines located in the province of Alicante (Autonomous Community of Valencia). There are two separate and distinct sub-zones: Vinalopó, which extends along the banks of the River Vinalopó in the southern area of the province, where the Monastrell grape variety and red wine production are predominant; and the smaller and newer sub-zone known as La Marina, along the coast in the northern area of the province, where the Moscatel grape variety and white wine production are predominant. Alicante is most renowned for producing a traditional sweet dessert wine known as Fondillón, made from overripe grapes.

Marina Baixa (Valencian pronunciation: [maˈɾina ˈβajʃa]) or Spanish: Marina Baja is a comarca in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is bordered by the comarques of Comtat on the northwest, Marina Alta on the northeast, Alacantí and Alcoià on the west and the Mediterranean Sea on the east. The interior of this comarca is mountainous, and it is dominated by the Serra d'Aitana whose highest peak is 1,500 m. The local fauna is composed by eagles, hawks, crows, blackbirds, swallows, foxes, wildcats, wild boars and many smaller animals. Rosemaries, pines, medlars and carobtrees are commonplace flora. The terrain is calcareous, so the landscape shows impressive caves and natural archways and fountains. Tourism is the main economic resource. Fruit trees (especially orange and lemon trees), olive and almond trees are cultivated. The population of this comarca strongly increased in the last twenty years.

The taifa of Dénia (Arabic: طائفة دانية) was an Islamic kingdom in medieval Spain, ruling over part of the Valencian coast and Ibiza. With Dénia as its capital, the taifa included the Balearic Islands and parts of the Spanish mainland. It was founded in 1010 by the Slavic warlord Mujāhid al-ʿĀmirī.

Tollos (Valencian and Spanish: [ˈtoʎos]) is a municipality in the comarca of Comtat, Alicante, Valencia, Spain. The small village of Tollos is in the El Comtat region of the Province of Alicante in the Comunidad de Valencia. It stands at 780 metres above sea level. Its climate is typically Mediterranean with about 300 days of sunshine. Spring and Autumn are said to be very pleasant; Summer can see average temperatures of 34 °C whilst the winters have days of about 15 °C with night time dropping to 6 or 7 °C. There are about 54 homes in the village but only about 12 permanent inhabitants. During the COVID pandemic this number has risen to about 24. The village has no shop but supplies by baker, butcher and grocer come regularly throughout the week. A doctor makes two weekly visits (Monday and Thursday), no appointment necessary, the farmacia also opens on those days. The summer months sees an influx of families to enjoy life at the mountain pace; the village pool also opens at this time along with the pool bar. Much of the surrounding areas were repopulated by people from Majorca after the expulsion of the Moors in 1492. The home language of the region is Valenciano but Spanish is also used. The common crops grown are almonds and olives along with cherries in neighbouring valleys. However with an ageing population many of the fields are left unworked.

Puig Campana (Valencian pronunciation: [ˈputʃ kamˈpana], literally translated in English as Bell Peak) is a mountain forming part of the Prebaetic System in the southeast of Spain. With an altitude of 1,406 metres (4,613 ft), it is the second-highest peak in the province of Alicante. Puig Campana is located in the municipality of Finestrat only 10 km (6 mi) from the Mediterranean coast. From the base of the mountain it may seem that there is only one peak, but in fact there are two, the taller of which is not easily visible from the base of the mountain. The western of the two peaks has a pronounced crack or notch, historically this feature has been known colloquially as the El Portell (The Gate) although in recent times it has come to be known by a number of other names such as Roldan's Notch (Brecha or Tajo de Roldán in Spanish). A large part of the vegetation on the north eastern side of the mountain was burnt by a wildfire in 2009. The fire started on 24 January of that year when a high voltage electricity pylon was blown over by a strong wind. Some 1,000 hectares were reduced to ashes and around 15,000 people were evacuated from 25 urbanizations. The best method for the reforestation of the mountain is currently being studied. Although five years after the disaster the area is still in a state of complete abandon.
